feck it, lets try it...worst case scenario we will only enjoy the drafting part :D

Rules:
Snake Style
8 hours deadline, once the pick is posted there is no changing unless the pick is invalid
8 Draft Picks - in formation picture/tactics you will mark 2 players that play whole game while other 3 be subbed, subs play lets say 18 minutes cca
Subs - to avoid GOAT heavy draft which i know is impossible lets say that subs should be rotation players and not stars so having Durant as a sub for example should be seen as a bad thing.
Rules - 90s rules
Ultimate Block - Michael Jordan
Block List - You can pick 2 players from the list

RR
will add later

Playing Managers:
1. Sjor
2. Moby
3. P-nut
4. Big Dunk
5. onenil
6. banofthegame
7. himan
8. Peak beam

I don't know nearly enough about the NBA to play but how did the rules change from the 90s?

Let's simply have 5 starters and 5 bench players.
thought this might be better to avoid 2 sets of superteams and get some love for some proper players rather then superstars

not the basketball expert so @Jim Beam or maybe @Moby can probably tell you in more detail but the biggest rule change that i know is the hand check rule, you used to be able to hold your hand on the opponent and pretty much "guide" him where you wanted which made 1v1 much more difficult from the offensive standpoint.
Other then that the game became soft, pretty much like football. Game used to be played by men, now its played by boys.

btw shall we go with the 90s rules? i assume there wouldnt be much action in match threads anyways so lets just open up the floor for some stars of the 90s that would pretty much be fecked with modern rules.

Actually Im not sure I got the 2+6 rule/criteria. Can you explain with an example.
just tried something to simulate the real game while avoiding 2 sets of great teams. As you know many stars in crunch game play the whole game while other rotate, to make it easier i added another one.
To go with Bulls example, you would probably have MJ and Pippen playing whole games while Rodman, Longley, Kerr, Kukoc and co. would rotate with Rodman and Longley having a bigger impact on quality of the team given the fact they were starters.
That also gives value to some sub players like Kerr and Kukoc that usually wouldnt get a sniff + it gives people a chance to feck up with 2 full game players if they pick someone who isnt, wasnt in the situation to pull it off game after game.
If people dont like it we can easily go back to 2 sets of 5.

I have a few questions:

- Are we basing the matchup on a play-off series? Who has home court etc.
- Where’s the cut off for “superstar”?
- Do we assume that 48 min players performance doesn’t deteriorate with fatigue if it’s a series?
- Having an 8/9 man rotation is a great call as I think it mirrors the playoffs more accurately.

1. How would that work? Reckon its easier if we go just with one game as for football and you can imagine and go by route of who would win the series of the two.
2. No cut off i guess, dont really understand superstar part, you can pick 8 superstar or just one and they can be from any era.
3. They do so if someone picks a superstar that has a history of limited court time it ahould be hold against him

1. Well thinking about it it’s certainly difficult, I just thought if for instance it’s one game, for instance every game is a “game 7” a lot of players could manage 40 mins plus if it’s all or nothing game. Probably just overthinking it too much tbh.

2. I must of misread as I thought we were picking 5 say superstars and the bench players were to be more of the role player types so not to have two squads of essentially HoFers.

3. Thanks for clarifying.

4. I’ll stop asking more questions :D

we start tomorrow, two questions though:
1. Modern rules(a bit easier to imagine) or "90s rules"(basically, with modern rules some of the 90s stars are fecked)?
2. Shall we create some mini block list given the fact its only 8 of us? Maybe put best xy players on the list and had limit of those like 2 per team.

Am for this. Block list of around 30-40 players from which everyone can take 2 players.

It basically limits the pool like you have 16 teams.

I'm in the same boat, but decided to play. Should be a laugh anyways.

tag for a tomorrow start and 2 questions

@Moby @BIG DUNK @Himannv @P-Nut @Baneofthegame
Fine to start tomorrow

Feel we should have our own variation of rules. Basically today's rules, with a degree of rough housing allowed.

Fine for a block list, but would struggle to know who to nominate.

I'm in the same boat.

  1. MJ & Pippen are going to tear everyone apart (if you pay the latter properly)
  2. Rodman is way too moody and unreliable
  3. Isaiah Thomas is bad & Pistons are bullies
  4. Magic & Bird are alright, but they are no Michael

Basketball in a nutshell, isn't it?

P.S. I haven't finished it yet

Isiah Thomas is pure class, could listen to him talk about basketball 0-24 but yeah, that one moment of idiocy probably ruined his legacy, specially after this documentary.

Funny thing is, it wont ruin pippens yet what he did was MUCH worse.

Thomas ruined his legacy through his tenure as a GM, as a player he’s at least a top 10 PG All time.

MJ was also a crap gm iirc, its irrelevant. Casual fan will remember Thomas for a feud with Jordan and not for his qualities as a player. For me, thats a ruined legacy.

Tbf, all Pistons have a bit ruined legacy. After all, they were a 2 times NBA champions and most people still remember them for the way they played... Because, well, it wasn't nice to see. If they played the game differently people would look at them more fondly with or without that incident.

Isiah has his recognition at least and is still seen as a great in most people eyes. Joe Dumars, for example, has very little of it while being both a cracking player and personality. But, it is pretty much Pistons fault for taking the term "beating another team" too literally.
They weren't the only team who played like that during those times, but they certainly pushed it on another level.

Yeah, I specifically didn't name him a bad player, but just as "bad" ;)

Even MJ (look at me using nicknames) tells that he is the second best something* in history after Magic Johnson in that documentary.
*point guard? I'm not sure if I'm remembering right.

Know what you meant and responded like it, we cant know shit obviously but he seems like a great guy from multiple shows(id recommend anyone to watch open court series, its insanely good) i watched him in and is pretty much adored by all players other then jordan and his mate pippen.

Add something about Jerry Krause being a bit of a knob and yep, think that’s all anyone needs to know.
