I think it could be interesting to keep track of what clubs actually pay for players in the current, corona infected marked, as there is great uncertainty around what we will have to pay e.g. for Sancho.

Marco Icardi - from Inter to PSG - £45m + 6.3m add-ons. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £54m (4 years left of contract).

Timo Werner - from RB Leipzig to Chelsea - £47.5m. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £57.6m (3 years left of contract).

Mario Pasalic - from Chelsea to Atalanta - £13.6m. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £14.5m (2 years left of contract).

Achraf Hakimi - from Real Madrid to Inter - £36.4m + 4.5m add-ons. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £49.1m (2 years left of contract).

Leroy Sané - from Manchester City to Bayern München - £40.9m + add-ons (potentially 54m). Valuation at Transfermarkt: £72m (1 year left of contract).

Jude Bellingham - from Birmingham to Borussia Dortmund - £20.7m . Valuation at Transfermarkt: £9.9m (1 year left of contract).

Hee-chan Hwang - from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig - £8.1m + 4.5m add-ons. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £9m (1 year left of contract).

Victor Osimhen - from Lille to Napoli - £45.6m + add-ons. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £24.7m (4 years left of contract).

Ferran Torres - from Valencia to Manchester City - £24.3m + add-ons. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £40.5m (1 year left of contract).

Nathan Aké - from Bournemouth to Manchester City £39m. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £25.2m (2 years left of contract).

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg - from Southampton to Tottenham - £15m + 4m add-ons. Valuation at Transfermarkt: £18m (1 year left of contract).

Kostas Tsimikas - from Olympiakos to Liverpool - £12.8m (+ 2m add-ons?). Valuation at Transfermarkt: £8.1m (2 years left of contract).

It's possible we could see a little dip, clubs (most clubs) will be a little short of money now so won't be bidding as much and will be more likely to accept lower offers.

However, all it would take is for Newcastle or some other billionaire's plaything to spunk 60mil on some midtable crap and we'll back to our astronomical normal in no time.

Not sure this deal will have any bearing on subsequent deals. PSG are a state owned entity and Inter have been desperate to get rid of a disruptive player who affects team morale.

Will be interesting to see the first bit of spending by Premier League clubs. Worth a thread for sure, gauging how the market reacts.

Mostly, I´m surprised they agreed to pay that much - especially if it is like you say, that they were desperate to get rid of him - and despite of PSG´s owners, we are operating in the same marked. I agree, though, it will be highly interesting to follow the businesses of PL clubs.

Players out of contract this summer will probably be the real winners. Clubs won't have loads of cash to spend on transfers so could look to get a few free players in on bigger wages as a compromise.

Likes of Willian spring to mind. You can see a few clubs going in for him even though he's incredibly inconsistent.

When will players be able to move? Is the plan a truncated window with the next season restarting quickly? Or no new season til October or so?

On the contrary, I think they’ll be one of the most affected ones. Low market, no one is going to offer top wages at the moment. They’ll have to settle for lower wages than they thought.

The original option to buy was around €70m I believe so around €19m discount.

That equates to around 27% lower than had been agreed.

It’ll be interesting to see if the next deals follow a similar 27-30% decrease in what was expected to be the fee.

Timo Werner Transfermarkt valuation is irrelevant. Because he had a buyout clause, and because he's scored a few goals lately and a striker's valuation is highly dependent on his goal threat. Transfermarkt valuations are only updated a few times a year so it's out-of-date. Chelsea did some smart business there.

Like I said months ago, the top end of the market won't be affected. You want a top player, you will still have to pay what you would have a season ago. Top clubs can weather it without selling and definitely not at knockdown prices.
It's in the lower divisions and leagues which have clubs whose model is dependent on selling talents like Portugal who will see a deflated market

It is relevant in the sense that if any club buys a player below his market valuation, for whatever reason - contract issues, player revolt, or anything else - it is 'smart business.' Transfer arithmetic is complicated, but by buying Werner below the market valuation (around 10 million), Chelsea have done smart business.

'Transfermarkt valuation' is not the same as 'actual transfer valuation' because there are so many other variables involved in a player transfer - contract terms, agent's qualities, player's preference, manager's backing, club's need, owners' pockets, squad deficiency, and so forth. Despite these limitations, Transfermarkt is the best player-valuation gauge I know of.

People often talk of Daniel Levy's acumen in transfer matters, but Chelsea's board does quite an outstanding job with transfers. A prime example in recent times is buying a promising Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid for £60 million and then doing daylight robbery by selling him for £58 million to Atletico Madrid. Another example is getting a world-record fee for a defender from PSG when they sold David Luiz to PSG. An even better example is duping some Chinese club by selling Oscar for 60-odd million.

Transfermarkt valuations were significantly reduced in April or May to account for COVID-19. Since the revaluation, the German league restarted and Werner has been knocking a few in: 4 gaols and an assist in the 7 matches since the restart. Without the release clause, they would never have sold him at that price. His real market value is way above the sale price of ~ £49m, and the Transfermarkt valuation - closer to £80m.

They did make Kepa the most expensive keepa at an odd 75 million though.

That panic buy was Courtois' doing. BTW the big lad seems to be doing an incredible job with Madrid after the season resumed. He was unbelievably good against Valencia the other day.

Not transfer related since we're probably going to keep him now that he has come good but Fred's value seem to have dropped from 50m to 15m. Despite him flopping initially, that's just ridiculous.

Worth bearing in mind that Transfermarkt dropped all players' values by around 10-20% after the pandemic

Probably worth mentioning the number of years that were left on their contract prior to the transfer as that is a crucial piece in driving the transfer fee

I don't get this thread. Are these done deals or just rumours?
It´s supposed to be done deals, although not necessarily confirmed by the clubs themselves; e.g. when Fabrizio Romano posts "here we go" on twitter, I take his word for it. Please let me know if any of the numbers turn out to be wrong.

You might be best sticking to done deals? I came in and thought city had signed Ake and Torres but nothing confirmed

Romero´s "here we go" has proven to be very reliable, though.

Think that's an excellent piece of business for Liverpool. More than just a backup to Robertson I think. Their recruitement has been top notch in the last few years.
