While it is not on at the moment for obvious reasons, I would quite like to get into following the NBA. Any words of advice for a newbie? What days are the games on, how are the divisions structured, who are the most exciting sides etc...
Buy NBA 2k20 and do mycareer. You will quickly pick up who is good and who is not. ESPN do coverage on basketball as do "undisputed with skip and Shannon" (youtube). Exciting? If KD recovers the Nets will be exciting. Western conference has the strongest teams. Clippers Mavericks and Rockets are exciting for me. I like Boston too.

At the moment you can get a trial of NBA Pass for free, allowing you to easily watch full matches/ highlights of past games.

I’m a newbie too. Working out who I want to support, though mostly I find (stupid statement alert) that I’m just liking watching the best players. Giannis, LeBron, Anthony Davis, Kawhi. Is it too basic bitch to pick the Lakers? :nervous:

Join the good side mate  We will be competitive on a more regular basis than some of the smaller market teams, although even with the Lakers it comes and goes in cycles.

It's totally normal that you just enjoy watching the stars though, nothing wrong with that either. Allegiances are a bit different too imo if you're following from Europe - of course going out to Kawhi and the Clippers would suck for example but I wouldn't begrudge Giannis a title if he wins against the Lakers in the Finals for example, because I like him a lot too.

My mate from work has actually just bought that game as he is wanting to get into basketball too and he said it was good for building up some knowledge so I think I'll do that too, good point. On BT Sport I was watching a couple of games from past seasons and I was immersed in it, thought it was cracking to watch. Yeah I've heard of the Clippers and the Celtics, so at least I know a few teams I suppose.

Don't do it man, they only want you too share in their constant cycle of pain.
 which franchise is your team man? It's those colours, I think their jersey is beautiful

Is that online? As I say I was watching a couple of old games on BT Sport and they were really good to sit and try to understand the game as a starting point.

I know LeBron and Davis and Curry, so you might be on to something and just look for the best players to watch. I've been told to both support the Lakers and not to support them!

As a Knicks fan, I can uneqiuivocaly say, don't choose the Knicks or you will experience pain. A self-chosen pain. Not one by which the physician within you will heal your sick self but a pain which will cause the physician within you will go insane and wish to be institutionalized.
For a casual fan I would recommend the Lakers or Bucks.

 Sorry to hear you say that mate, I do think the blue jersey is gorgeous though

Duly noted man  I'm gonna buy the NBA game as @Stacks mentioned and see what I find. I really enjoyed watching The Last Dance and some old games on BT Sport so I'm going to try and get properly into it.
I forgot to mention the Nets, in theory they should be fun to watch when Durant comes back.

I’ll watch (as much as I can) this year’s playoffs and see where I get/ who I’m drawn to. The player that jumps out the most is Giannis, but Milwaukee? Bleh. Don’t want to support a team where I’ve no intention of ever visiting the town.

Not exactly but Durant and Irving joined them last off season to form a super team.
A real mix.
their best player is in his 30's and is MVP calibre, 2nd best is late 20s then they have some rising Stars in their mid 20s, etc.

Their best one done his achilles so depends if he can get back to his best
Interesting I'll need to look into them then, they sound exciting.

Ooft their black and white jersey is lovely too.

Can't wait, this is gonna be so awesome. The whole summer's gonna be great, from finishing the football leagues to finishing the NBA/NHL to the cycling season properly restarting in August/September/October. Feck yes.

Should mean the Bucks and Lakers have the #1 seed all but locked up in both conferences.

They need to do an NBA USA vs Rest of the world.

Jokic/Porzingis/Embid/Gobert/Karl Anthony Towns

Giannis, Simmons/Siakam
Doncic, Gilgeous Alexander

vs

Davis

Kawhi Leonard, Lebron
Curry/Lilard,/Westbrook,/Irving, George

Brilliant man, thanks for the info. Was looking to buy a swingman Nike jersey in fact. Probably the Miami heat Vice black edition and maybe a Lakers one too. I have a Hornets one on the way that I bought on Nike with the 30% discount they were offering. I'm 1m84 and weigh roughly 81kg, so i'm assuming M, is probably the right fit? I like jerseys tight around the arms/chest area.
Hmm that's about 6ft im 5'11 and weigh the same as well 81kg and I found the size 48 (large) to be more of a fit I think you will like. I usually size up also because I like my jerseys a little longer when it comes to NBA stuff. The Nike authentic are more true to size IMO. So for example on Nike swingman I typically where a size 52 but on Authentics I go with a size 48 as my preferred fit.

I truly believe 44 will be way to tight for you imo I think size 48 if you are going with a swingman will be perfect. Like I said these modern Nike jerseys run pretty small.

Also I highly suggest going with the Authentic over the swingman as the quality is so much better.

*Except if you are getting the black vice wade jersey because an authentic version of that jersey will run you $700. It was a limited run.

Swingman of course you can find for much cheaper.

**Also sorry for the late reply I have had a busy work week so far

2K is actually how I got into the game. Bought the first one for PS4 when PS4 released, think it was 2K14. I enjoyed it so much I actually started watching basketball again after a very long break.

The game does seem to be the best way to get into it. I'm skint this month though so will need to wait to get it.

It’s super cheap these days. They were selling it for about £10 last month from what I remember.

Use Start Today mode which will throw at you at the point of season where they stopped, or MyLeague. MyGM is a bit too complex and not flexible enough IMO.

I looked online and it wasn’t that cheap, will definitely keep an eye out though.
So does that just let you play the games, like no mucking about with management or anything?

Plenty of modes to 'just play the games'. It was on sale for £4 last month but I think that offer's come to an end unfortunately.

Yeah if you select MyLeague all you do is play and trade. Same for Start Today.

Damn, I wish I had seen that. Hopefully there is a deal like that again soon then.

No problem and thank you so much for all the info. I got the turquoise Hornets Jersey in a size medium, it should be here tomorrow so I'll see now how that fits. I can always send it back if needs be. I'm in fairly good shape anyway so hopefully it will fit. I usually prefer it rather on the shorter side than long, so medium might be ok. I was looking at those black Vice wade jerseys but they're hard to find, even the swingman version.

What size Jersey would I need can anyone help? I'm 6ft 4 so 195cm and 94kg.

I used to live in Hoboken, NJ for a few years ages ago and followed the Nets. I know they have since moved to Brooklyn but I fancy getting myself a Jersey.

Try sites like mercury, offer up, Poshmark, Etsy, and you will run into a swingman for sure.

Beautiful jerseys!

same. ever since I stopped being a student I drifted away from Basketball and since I bought 2k I have now become obsessed. I am constantly watching basketball discussions even more so than football. There are many things Basketball does well. I love the Draft system, the fact they do a best of 7 to decide who advances (no doubt who is the best),

I play MyCareer, where I create my own avatar and enter the draft and get drafted by a team. This allows you to play seasons and you will play against every team in the NBA. You will very quickly know who are good players as they will drop 30 points against your team every time. Once you notice a good player, you get tempted to research them a bit more and find out about their body of work and their career. Then you will see their names mentioned on the TV and know who they are and your knowledge will build from there. May be best to buy it 2nd hand.

Same here, I don’t listen to any football podcasts but have 7 that I subscribe to just about NBA and try to keep up with all of them!

Interesting stuff about 2k. I have 2k20 bought it when it was dirt cheap but didn't play at all so far. Will give it a go, it seemed a bit too many things to learn for someone who hasnt played it before. Any tips on basic controls especially while defending?

Yeah I got 2k when it was cheap two weeks ago - had been a while, so you can't cheese it on mycareer anymore with mega sliders in your favour. So actually have to play, getting 10p10a can feel like a right grind at the start.

Kinda got bored with mycareer as it's just a load of waiting and ad delaying... still a fun game to play actual games with though.

Nba 2k20 got me into basketball again. I used to love basketball a long time ago back when Rik Smits played for the Pacers (the 90s?) now just watching some recent exciting games from the last few years. The 3 shooting ability of people is mental now. Curry takes 3s from nearly half court just for the feck of it.

There's not much coverage on Dutch TV though and the amount of commercials puts me off of watching it live a bit.
