I agree with every word. Terrible transfer.

Any mathematicians in here fancy working out how much he's cost us per game, per minute, per goal? Would make for some brutal stats.
Even in terms of squad building it was terrible. We had a gaping hole in rw and went for a 3rd lw

He's not only United's worst transfer in history, but in the EPL's history as well
Yeah it’s almost impossible to argue with that statement at all as I can’t name a worse transfer in Premier League history, I can’t think of a worse transfer full stop to be honest.

The crazy thing was that he’d been awful for most of that season for Arsenal too but it was put down to him just wanting out of Arsenal, the moment he signed was the moment Martial and Rashford saw their careers really stall and stagnate pretty much until Jose left and Ole did what was needed.

We’ve had a gaping hole at RW for 10 years or more, our last decent stop gap was when Mata played there under LVG, which is outrageous in itself.

Thinking this lad will ever regain the form he showed a good few years ago back is deluded. He has gone the way of Rooney. If he comes back then he is not good enough to get anywhere near the match day squad for his position. He needs to make his own decision, stay with no game time or leave and play every week somewhere.

We thought this would be Van Persie 2.0 transfer coup. Ohh Boii! Were we wrong.

Sanchez is more like the anti RVP, like we felt so bad for Arsenal that we took RVP and he won us the league we decided to balance it out by taking Sanchez.

Sanchez should be shunted out on loan to whoever is deluded enough to see a footballer in him, he is done just done.

The worse part is that Sanchez is not helping himself neither. Smalling for example has done well, I guess he would want to stay at Roma if a decent deal is struck, but should he return he is still a good squad CB. Sanchez is either don't care or what, even Jones has recovered from his long lasting injury and return to a bit of form.

not that easy, his wages are an issue. Even us paying 175k a week towards his wages still leaves the other club paying a fair chunk for, an as it turned out injured player. I think a lot of clubs would be potentially intertested in him if his wages weren't such a hinderence, maybe not elite clubs but good ones anyway

Honestly guys Torres to Chelsea was probably worse. I remember him missing an open goal against us...i'm sure Chelsea fans were more frustrated by him than us...

Does anyone think the club will learn anything from this Sanchez disaster, if so what? We are still hearing ridiculous amounts, fees and salaries, being quoted for certain players , one who is little more than a kid. OK, most of it is the media speculating, but it makes you wonder have we finally learned any lessons and/or will the after effects of the Covid-19 pandemic put paid to the money-mad transfers we've seen previously in play?

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. What really annoys me his his lack of fight and involvement. If hes done or injured then fine thats not his fault. But why isnt he a spokesperson. Why not be a leader. Why not get involved with the youth players. Why not be an ambassador in some capacity. He does absolutely nothing. All he has done is to get his 300 grand a weeK and swan off to Italy. Thats whats unforgivable

How is it the same case as Sanchez disaster? Sanchez issue is that the guy is already past his best and it's very unlikely he'll recover his best again, and because of that, the club is looking for to sell him. Sanchez knows that in his current situation, he's not in a hurry to cut his wages to move somewhere, 31/32 years old is waiting for his retirement and enjoying the money.

The kid you are referring to can be viewed as part of investment, if the player failed to perform, they can always get some of their money back like what they did on Memphis, Zaha & Lukaku. And Lukaku is actually a good example why young player who believe he's good enough willing to cut his wages to move somewhere for guarantee be a key player in a new club. If players couldn't be sold then we can always give them chances and there is hope for young player to change things around.

Sanchez's case should be compared to Bale & Cavani. Luckily, we learnt from Sanchez's case and have no interest to sign them. Although probably, Sanchez case is even deeper than Bale & Cavani since we are giving Sanchez a long contract and I don't think we'll give Bale & Cavani a long contract if we're going to take a risk on old players again.

It'll be interesting to see the dynamic when he's back because I can't see anyone buying him & he's had more injuries whilst at Inter. I think we just forget about the wage, it's not his fault (I'd have said yes as well ;) ) and hope he can at least be a good squad option as he gets older before moving, without any fanfare, on a free once his contract is up.

From all accounts he trains really hard and his attitude only became bad at Arsenal when he wanted out of multiple seasons of mediocrity and shit signings. He was top dog there and was popular with the fans; he was in a position of strength.

Contrast that to now and I'm hoping we'll see him essentially provide cover for the front three...there's a small naive part of me that also thinks in this new team setup he might actually be able to have more an impact on the RW. AWB allows him more security Bruno + Pogba means there are multiple points of creativity behind him and having Martial gives so much more movement than when he played with Lukaku. He's never going to recapture his old form but our RW has been weak for years and I see Greenwood as a 9, James is better from the left and Lingard is Lingard. If we don't sign Sancho, maybe Alexis will be an unlikely positive for next season.

What are we going to do with him for the next 2 years until his contract is up? He won’t want to go anywhere permanently while on these wages. Basically pulling a Bale on us.

I keep thinking : he has to come good again (would be awesome because there's no doubt he was class)... and then he doesn't. So one final time: I think he's going to come good again

Not at all. While he didn't set the place alight he still worked very hard and scored some big goals like the one at the Camp Nou.

Sanchez has only had 1 good game against City and scored a handful of goals. It's quite pathetic how bad he was considering his reputation.

I don't think its loss of pace only that has led to this Sanchez we got it is his desire on the pitch he has lost his hunger probably because he got his last huge pay check.

Probably because of his ego. He probably thinks he's just saying empty words when his performance don't match up to what he's saying.

WAS being the keyword........his ego was massaged well at Arsenal and everyone thought he was the messiah......once he went to Utd he wasn't the main man and quickly started sulking and mentally gave up - he will never come good at Utd as he isn't wanted and is resented because of the huge pay packet he is on (by his teammates and fans) - the imbalance and negativity that huge salary caused is what has caused his downfall - as a commercial decision to offer such an exorbitant wage to entice him to come to us over City should have rung alarm bells.......we are stuck with him seeing out the next 2 years and if lucky we can offset a little salary by loaning him out......it will be crazy to bring him back into the setup though - Ole will not allow it

It's just the wages having your best-paid player be a bench warmer, which let's face it is all he is good for, does and will always cause disruption.
I still get angry when I think about how 95% of fans, pundits and people on this forum thought he was a bargain.

He should in theory be a half decent sub to interchange Martial and Rashford off the left.

But he is just a shell of a player. Plus, as others have pointed a bench warmer on his wages is a problem.

Interestingly Sanchez are involved in good portion of the first 10 minutes goals galore.
Good assists and off the ball movements.

Ole just doesn't fancy him anymore. Yet, I'm sure he'll do better than some of our current attackers. He'll improve the squad depth and squad quality but having an expensive squad player is...

Success papers over a lot of disappointment. I remember thinking, while standing in my father's old kitchen in Farmingdale, Long Island, watching/listening to that Neville call "welp, who cares what he cost now?"

Now Andy Carroll, on the other hand... I mean many of us thought Sanchez was a luxury buy but who could've imagined it would backfire this intensely? But Carroll? I don't know what the ethos was there. Good hair?

Easily the worst transfer in the history of the EPL, and probably top 3 of worst transfers in football at all.
What are the other 2? Can’t think of it.

Perhaps Caroll to Liverpool but they for some sell on fee’s.
Torres to Chelsea and Veron to United were average - good. Ditto kaka to Madrid.

I can’t think of another massive signing that was this bad

I will defend this transfer to the hilt. Before we signed him, if we asked everyone on this forum to name their top 10 players in the league the majority would have Sanchez on that list. We swapped a terrible Mkhitaryan for someone most thought was one of the better players in the league.

It hasn’t worked at all, but it was a good idea in theory.

Nah Torres is much better (still rubbish, mind) for what he did in their 2012 Champion League run

They didn't do their due diligence. Fitness, motivation, personality fit etc. There were plenty of of signs that he wasn't quite right.

We threw a stupid amounts of money into an aging player in a position where we were already strong so that Jose could be replace Martial and Ed could feel like he got one over City.

It's an embarrassing moment for the club that lacked any sort of coherent strategy. I'm thankful that Ole came and saved us from this type of transfer stupidity.

I disagree about due diligence. He had a proven track record of being a top player. Even when Arsenal were just a team fighting for top 4, he showed commitment and fight. I’ll agree that his last few months weren’t a bright spot but there’s a variety of reasons that could be.

Yes we paid stupid money but that’s the position we found ourselves in. He had a choice between us and City, besides money what did we have to offer him? It’s not like RVP where we were a solid bet to get him a trophy.

I see nothing embarrassing about making a mistake in the market. Every club does it.
