I just cannot see us getting Sancho while he is still on the books.
As well as no gate revenue we have a massive wage bill to sustain and I just cannot see big money spent on transfers.

I will defend this transfer to the hilt. Before we signed him, if we asked everyone on this forum to name their top 10 players in the league the majority would have Sanchez on that list. We swapped a terrible Mkhitaryan for someone most thought was one of the better players in the league.

It hasn’t worked at all, but it was a good idea in theory.
All of our Woodward era transfers feel this way, they all looked like excellent business at the time and we were rubbing our hands over them. Mata, Depay, Falcao, Di Maria, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlain, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Darmian, we were Muppeting and praying we get them at the time. If you look at the buzz we had after each of those signings, one would think Woodward was the best director in the world.

Honestly guys Torres to Chelsea was probably worse. I remember him missing an open goal against us...i'm sure Chelsea fans were more frustrated by him than us...
While he was nowhere near as good as he was for liverpool, he scored a fairly modest 45 goals in 172 appearances, including probably the most significant, or at worst second most significant, goal in Chelsea's history. He cost a large fee, but his wages never caused issue at the club. Sanchez has scored 5 goals in 45 appearances for us, none of them being of any great significance, and completely destabilized our wage structure. Torres was an average transfer to Chelsea, not the best, but an okay return in the end. Not comparable to Sanchez in any way.

What are the other 2? Can’t think of it.

Perhaps Caroll to Liverpool but they for some sell on fee’s.
Torres to Chelsea and Veron to United were average - good. Ditto kaka to Madrid.

I can’t think of another massive signing that was this bad
Id say Shevchenko going to chelsea in 2006 for 50M plus Crespo is the worst specially since Sheva was world class for Milan, and considering that 50M was a hell lot of money ib that time, actually he broke the transfer fee record for the EPL.

Number two Jack Rodwell for Sunderland, they gave him stupid wages and end up fecking up their whole wage structure for a player that never lived up to the hype.

And then theres Sanchez, fecked up wages but on a "free" exchange for Mhiky who hasnt made anyone regrest letting him leave yet.

Yeah I agree... was thinking about how much Torres cost at the time of that post.

That last line is a key point. I genuinely think people use the "free" transfer to try and justify it, ignoring the monster wages.
But having madly ignored that Mhky cost about 25-30m himself which therefore has to count as Sanchez's fee.

We still don't seem to have an agreement regarding his loan beyond June 30. Anyone think Inter won't do it and just send him back to save their part of his wages?

Didn't watch and i am deluded enough to think that he still has future with us. So, was he good?

I think it's in Inter's best interest to extend his contract at least until the end of the season given he's just returned from injury so I reckon they want to see how he performs before making a decision for next season.

Is Sanchez eligible to play against us in this season's Europa League?

You're right. We have no backup other than Sanchez for our forwards. And he's actually been decent since his return from injury. He doesn't offer much in terms of scoring but the other things are there. Although he has lost pace for sure.

Can't perform much worse than James - throwing him in the last few games might make someone take a punt on him.
James has outperformed him in a red jersey whilst playing most of the season out of position

I will never understand what exactly went wrong with him and Ozil. They have never looked the same since he moved and Ozil got that big contract. It feels like they played for the big money and once they got it they didnt care.

I can see him replacing are sharing a place with Ighalo tbh. Hopefully can get some thing out of him as a back up striker because his pace is long gone.

how many goals has James scored vs Sanchez?

he has been performing much worse than James - a player who is in his second professional season and who has taken a massive step up this season.

There was talk from Sky Italia I think the tweet was from, they were saying Inter are trying to sign Sanchez permanently still but only have 5 days to negotiate a deal.

Really should just take anything. Even if Inter don't have to be paying for his full wages, it's better than us having to pay for his full wages.

I believe Sanchez has 5 Utd goals and James has 4.
James has been overall a pretty poor player this season for us. Perception is affected by his great start in his first 4-5 games but after that it went full south.

Has nothing to do with Sanchez though, I don't want him here and don't expect to see him wearing our shirt again anyway.

Not at all. While he didn't set the place alight he still worked very hard and scored some big goals like the one at the Camp Nou.

Sanchez has only had 1 good game against City and scored a handful of goals. It's quite pathetic how bad he was considering his reputation.
Chelsea we’re going through on away goals I think, though I may be wrong, not sure that Torres goal meant that much.

Tell that to Gary Neville! Seemed a pretty big goal at the time to cement things

Bloody hell I've just had a look at what's left on his contract.

24 months at £400k a week is £41.6million. He's obviously not going to walk away from that sort of cash and what club in their right mind is going to agree to take on even a third of that cost for him?

Unbelievable. He has to financially the worst signing ever . But a positive from his signing is I doubt we will ever be caught with a player like him again

Whats the craic with being on loan in another country? If he's not residing in the UK for most of the year can he avoid paying the level of tax on that money that he'd normally be liable for?

That's a interesting question tbh. I've no idea but I'd guess he has that covered or he wouldn't have accepted a loan that would cost him millions

Is there any example of a player who had such a big loss of form and managed to recover part of it ?

I was thinking more the other way - I'm not English but I'd imagine Premier League players are paying what, 40-50% tax on their wages?

If scarpering off to Italy on a loan means he can avoid paying that because he's residing out of the country then he's absolutely laughing. It can't be though - there would be uproar.

It would be decent if inter took him on a free under the same arrangement/possibly even paying a bit more of his wage for the remainder of his deal. We save a few quid and get the #7 jersey back. Inter seem happy enough to play him when he’s fit and try to coax out the old Sanchez in a slower league for not a lot of cash. He’s supposedly happier there. Let’s all just move on and pretend like this transfer never happened.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the tax bracket is around 45% which is similar to Italy

Know this is unlikely to happen but we need Bruno, Harry & Scott to read him the riot act about what it means to play for this club then maybe there is still a player in there but I highly doubt it to be honest
