Several of the starters made a solid case for themselves in regard to the exit door.

What a BRILLIANT tactical masterclass from Ole again, knew we needed that extra match fitness and made sure he told our players to only win it right at the end of extra time.

I love the sarcasm in this post. I completely agree, Pep would never have lost a game embarrassingly since coming back from Corona, we should win every game easily just like Pep has done.

Poor selection and tactics from Solskjaer and Bruno's first bad game for us. We also don't have enough quality in the wide areas and struggle to stretch teams. Still, at least we got the job done.

And those who said we should have started with a stronger team looking to finish the game early then make subs were right. These many changes at once feck us over and we ended up playing the started all the way to overtime.

What a waste of energy that game was. But we won at least. Very annoying though.
Still convinced we will easily make top 4? Like I keep telling you, we can’t break down deep defending sides and just having Bruno and Pogba isn’t going to change that instantly.

Norwich had 10 men for a lot of the game, yet we didn't seem to have much of a clue. Not a good sign given our past struggles.

We made it hard for ourselves with so many changes and too many average players in at one time for quality players.
With hindsight could have started strong hopefully won the game and then rested key players.
Norwich played well 2n half until they had a player sent off. After that it was one way traffic against a yellow bus.
Happy to win, Maguire made goal saving block and then score teh winner so MOTM for me. Shaw was very good, Bruno was lively as always but by his standards slightly off key. Probably knackered.

We were not anywhere as bad as doom mongers making out, seen far far worse this year - and we won. Happy days

We rested several players but brought in several who hadn't played for months. So Romero, Bailly, Mata, Lingard, Williams and Ighalo have barely played if at all and McT and Fred needed games too. Some players needed a rest too such as Shaw and Fernandes who looked leggy as the game went on.

The rebuild is a process and it is clear that certain players aren't good enough. But we need to keep using those weaker players to keep the better players somewhat fresh. I think the performance giving the circumstances was understandable. There is no point bemoaning the management, coaching staff or players at every opportunity. We will have dips in performance.

By and large, we are going in the right direction. I saw a lot of effort on the pitch, last ditch tackles and blocks etc. Putting effort should be the minimum, but it isn't something we've always seen in previous years. The next step will be to continue to replace the weaker squad players and gradually have a higher quality squad depth.

Norwich were poor, they never really looked like scoring and by and large, we looked in control, but just lacked any meaningful play in the final third.

C’mon. You know as well as I do that if long ball to Maguire is an effective strategy we would do that from the first minute in games. Desperate tactics will sometimes pay off. Doesn’t mean it was the right decision to deploy them.
No you’re right. I wish that in the last ten minutes we’d have used different tactics than the one that won us the game. Sure we went through in the last few minutes but they’re not good enough and we should have tried some other tactics that would have made us go through more.

Special mention to Bruno for that last run to defend, immense work rate on him. But otherwise same ol' utd making it harder for themselves.

I'm just taking the piss. I can't give a feck right now that we were shite today. Just glad we won. Can worry about how shite we are when the next game rolls on.

Very poor game but glad we got the win. Still not seeing any signs of a game plan other than going through the motions and hoping that someone does something special. Too many 2 yard passes for me which makes it easier to defend. We need a few players that are able to beat a man out wide or we're going to struggle next season too

Messi Lingardinho didn't do himself any favours today. I think the commentator hit the nail on the head with him when he said "he's not a winger, not a striker, and not a midfielder". He has no position that he specializes in. He just has energy. I will be very surprised if we see him on the field again this year....

Good game. Only one team deserved to win. Hard to break through when there are 9 players in the 18. Mind you, our fullbacks have to cross it early. Put in that outswinging cross from deep that goes behind defenders that strikers can run onto. We rarely do that. It's the pass that KDB loves to make as do the two Liverpool FB's. Our FB's just seem to be content with recycling the ball. Give the easy pass and let someone else try and be creative. EIther way, we still won. Huge difference in class between the team that started and the team that finished...

Not a great performance, but a wins a win.
Clear to see Lingard is a passenger, Mata is rusty, Bruno can't do it on his own.
Pogba and Bruno need to start together, also Greenwood makes some great runs.
Wembley here we come.

I wouldnt really draw any conclusions from this game. We were off. We were pretty bad. Just a bad day. Bruno especially couldnt really do anything right. Yet we still won. Gotta win those games when youre not playing well. We did that. Moving on. Bruno, Shaw and Maguire might be tired having played 120 minutes but the rest of our starting 11 vs Brighton should be fine.

Poor from the manager and coaching staff. Ighalo, Martial, Rashford, Greenwood, Bruno and Pogba, yet mentally we collapse into lumping it to Maguire in the box. It worked today, but isn’t effective football long term. A bit of a wake up call in what’s needed for top 4.
That's unfair. We tried lumping it, passing through them and crossing it in. Norwich were so deep and compact that it was clear they were playing for penalties. Didn't give any space in the 18 yard box. Also - clear as day that Bruno got tired towards the end, but he was still there making that tackle near our goal line just before HM scored.

When Plan A is not working, it's good to mix it up. I didn't see a problem with that. This team needs to win a few dirty games like this to start building a foundation for success.

Ole made the right call going for a weak side, the schedule is absolutely brutal and we'll need to rotate as much as we can and it's therefore inevitable that we'd end up with a disjointed flat performance today.

Dreadful game but got there in the end, hopefully it's ring rust but my gut is telling me we'll see more frustrating games like that before the season is out.

Still very much to be convinced by Ole

Bruno had a poor gane (for his standard). /
But what a player, look at the effort he put in, how much he wanted to make things happen, passion and tracking back. Brilliant.

Not as convincing as we've been of late, but I guess that was to be expected with the amount of changes we made and the fact that cup ties are very rarely a walk in the park.

That said, a win is the most important thing. Semi final.

Our first lot of subs compeltely messed us up. We had started the second half well.

Still think the ET will be good for fitness in the long run.
I was just thinking that.

The proof will be how well we can perform against Brighton. As long as we can get past Tuesday without too may ill effects, I reckon today's 120 minutes will stand us in good stead for the remaining games.

Toothless on the wings.

Shaw and Williams offered nothing.

Rashford and Martial don't attack down the channels which is fine, but where are the overlapping full backs?

Why can't they drive at players, commit defenders, why can't they cross the ball instead of passing back.

You may as-well play 3 CBs and have 2 wingers out there because at least they'd drive at defenders.

Whats the point in having a RB and LB who stand wide and just play a 2 metre pass? Utterly toothless.

Playing against 10 men hoping for a game to go to penalties is a lot harder than you would think. They basically put 10 men in the box the entire time. I actually thought them going to 10 was bad for us as they would basically go into a shell and rely on Krul game raising heroics.

big rotation and snuck through, only down side is a few key players had to play 30-50 minutes and bruno played the whole game and bust his gut the whole game

Surely the final nail in Lingards coffin. One of mata and Perreria should go too.

Why is our finishing so poor from distance? Feels like a fecking curse, I though Bruno was smashing them in from distance all the time before United and now he couldn't even hit the target ffs.
