I was more concerned with the performance once the better players came on, until the red card Norwich looked the more likely to win the game late on and then the problems we've had of not being able to break teams down reared their head again, for all of the pressure we created very little of note in extra time until the goal. A great ball by Pogba though, having good players fit again won't magically make us a fluent, coherent team (that requires a lot more coaching and work on the training ground) but it will bail us out at times when things aren't going well.

We knew that some of the guys who started aren't good enough but we're stuck with them due to being on bad contracts, the first hour was a bit scrappy and lacking in quality but that's to be expected when lesser players who haven't played in months are all thrown in together but at least we were shading it at that stage.

Disjointed second half performance but that was to be expected with all the chopping and changing.

Fitness and sharpness still not there yet, but Pogba is really impressive.

Good victory on the road and the late goals are coming back again!!!

Our 2nd string are quite a level below our first choice players. Without Pogba, Bruno and Rashford we still look quite poor, much like earlier in the season.

I wish OGS would make subs earlier. The big guns should have come on at half time. Did anyone really believe the combo of Mata and Lingard were going to improve after the break!?

I think Bruno might be rested for Brighton now, having played the whole 120 mins.
You can add Romero to that list. I've seen sacks of spuds get down quicker.

BBC should have football taken off them full stop. They don't deserve it with that level of wank in place of punditry and analysis.

As for the match, we started with a rake of players who had no minutes in their legs and then made a load of changes. A sharp and cohesive performance was always unlikely.
The BBC is by far the worst network for half-time/full-time analysis.

What I want to hear from pundits is expert insight from former professionals who have been watching more of the pitch than I can see when I'm sat at home.

Instead, the BBC invariably spend half of their time talking about whether it was a 'good game' or a 'bad game'.

I already fecking know if I'm fecking enjoying the fecking match. I don't need somebody else to tell me that.

The Beeb need to learn how to treat the TV audience with an ounce of respect and tell them about something the average viewer wouldn't ordinarily know.

Lineker is the worst for this. It's like he thinks nobody's just watched the action and is only tuning in to listen to him spout cliches.

With the pressure of games I'm happy with winning and not playing well, felt like the players were trying to win with least effort....just worried now Bruno will ran out of gas soon...bring on anyone we are ready

That was pretty grim watching. Fair play to Bruno running the full length of the pitch in extra time because he was knackered.

I spent the whole Villa v Wolves game commenting to my father in law that everything went through Grealish yet we were the same with Bruno.

Great stuff from Maguire.

Imagine how good Shaw could be if he actually had an end product (and was more switched on).

That the same Klopp who went on holidays rather than go to a FA Cup game?
Klopp has proven he's a top manager, won big trophies and has now got his team winning the biggest trophies in football, Ole has not. Ole has got everything to prove, and should be desperate to win some silverware.

He looked like he lacked leadership today, not a good look.

Some thoughts:

120 mins for Bruno, who looked already tired today. Not going to start on tuesday?

Fred and McTominay were really poor.

Lingard, Mata and Dalot are not needed anymore.

Rashford is not at his best, looked frustrated and was frustrating to look.

I like Maguires attitude.

I'm a bit worried that we are running Bruno into the ground. His passing has been off in the last two matches. Still, such an influential player and his speed of thought is amazing. The flick that put Igahlo through and subsequently made the red card was excellent.

Spending £80mil on a CB when you can’t score was a terrible idea; thankfully that CB hung about the box for 5 minutes & grabbed the late winner.

Tough game, tougher than I thought it’d be but like someone said up there, last year we’d of been out so it’s progress.

I hate to say it because it’s probably a bit boring but Bruno was my MOTM again, although he looked fecked at the end but I also thought Maguire played really well, pressed a lot.

I’m hoping Rashford can start to find some form because he looked off the pace.

Really pleased though, let’s hope we keep up the determination and fight right to the end of the season.

Did Ole have a touchline ban today? Couldn't believe his body language sat in the stands, he just doesn't seem like a winner. The team mirrored the manager today...uninterested. Klopp and Pep would have been kicking every ball today.
he finally came out of his seat at the 84th minute, I really hope he can make us challengers but the odds are against it happening.

I thought Fred looked rusty today, Mata and lingard shouldn't both start.

on paper we look very strong but tactically we are lacking,

Haven’t wanted us to score a winning goal as much in a long time out of pure trepidation of Krul’s penalty-saving antics

Also, I am loving Bruno more and more. He ran for every ball despite being evidently tired. Rashford was poor and either did not have or did not follow his instincts today, but I’ll just put that down to rustiness. Maguire was MOTM.

Thank God for the 5 subs rule btw, as everyone bar Bruno should be fresh and raring to go for Brighton on Wednesday night.

First bad game for Bruno? Don't attack me, asking to see if I am being tough and didn't see certain things.

Pedestrian in the first half and then we huffed and puffed in the second. It took a lot more effort than it should have with 10 men. Lacked wide players all game. Even when Rashford came on and played wide he looked jaded. Greenwood played a lot narrower than usual.

Anyway, made it to the next round.

For me he is worth every penny. Maguire is a leader and has lifted our entire defence to the next level.

He just needs a partner that is world class too. Im not sure that Bailly and Lindelof will ever be that, although I hope they continue to improve. I feel we are a top class CB and right winger away from being true title contenders.

We were a bit lethargic up until the goal which isn't suprising cause of many changes and players who haven't played since the brake or haven't played much. After the goal we should have went for the kill instead of waiting for the game to be over and that kind of attitude nearly costed us, they have 3 or 4 really good chances. Near the end of 90 minutes and in the ET we pushed and pushed but couldnt brake them till Maguire scored.
They defended really good and Krul was fantastic. I hope this game wont cost us for the Brighton game.
We tried through the middle, from the flanks, through transition everything but we werent quick and fresh enough. I didnt get why Shaw was so close to the box constantly instead of stretching their defense near the line.

Romero had one or 2 good saves, in the right place at a right time. Maguire had a proper captain's performance, defensively and of course a winning goal. Bailly was really good too I thought. Dalot wont make it, Williams huffed and puffed but didnt produce much, same with Shaw.
Bruno had a poor game, he tried everything but it didnt really go for him, he needs a rest I think. Fred and McTominay were decent, Matić really helped in attacking play with his passing.
Rashford again a bit rusty, Greenwood neither here nor there. Ighalo was great I thought, his back to the goal play is second to none and he was constantly dangerous.
Mata and Lingard, the less I say the better. Especially for Lingard.

Not for me, not everything he tried came off but he works his arse off as well as being the creative fulcrum.

Even on one of his average days, he was still one of our better players in the team.

Spot on.

They had so obviously worked themselves into a froth at the prospect of an upset, that you could taste the disappointment in the air as they petulantly went through the motions at the end. No insight, no balance - just glib cliches and easy observations the likes of which you'd expect to hear from know-nothings down the pub.

It's also obvious that they do next to no preparation before games. There was a show on a few weeks ago where Neville spoke about the amount of work and effort that goes into MNF on Sky - now I don't know what the salary discrepancy is between the fellas on BBC and Neville or Caragher but Shearer and Wright should be ashamed to tell people they're even attempting to do the same job.

We had gobs of days like this under Sir Alex, off days where we scraped the win over a inferior side. Job done. No known injuries. No complaints. Onward. Upward.

Still convinced we will easily make top 4? Like I keep telling you, we can’t break down deep defending sides and just having Bruno and Pogba isn’t going to change that instantly.
I think we'll be fine, the issue here was motivation for this tie, and the fully rotated side not having cutting edge. Full strength is where we are fine. I'm just annoyed Bruno played 120 mins.

Was a shite idea starting with that initial front 3. One of Rashford or marital needed to start. Zero pace to threaten the defence

There is a real drop off in creativity and athleticism outside the starting 11. In football, those two things are needed in attack to be effective. It doesn't matter how smart a player is, if they don't have the speed, dribbling, power or passing to create for others, there is no way they will score. Lingard and Mata ( consituting half of our attack) did not have this. Additionally, without a Pogba or Matic from deep, the midfield did not have anyone who could create from deep either. In the first half, Bruno and Shaw alone were our sources of creativity which says everything.

We're also coming back from 3 mouths without football. By jaw of averages, we'll rediscover our form pretty soon.

Bruno wasn't great today, but feck me, I would rather have a guy play like that than ever see lingard and Mata again.

Mata 2/10
Lingard 2/10
Dalot 1/10
Bailly 3/10

All awful. Mata and Lingard just run around . Everything they do is ineffective. Dalot just isn’t Man United material, squad, reserves, and certainly not in the first 11. Technically, tactically and mentality not good enough. Bailly has a mistake in him every match, and he is so limited in his passing, he should never play in this situation. He's really a fourth or fifth best CB on a top 4 side. Break glass in case of emergency type.

I don't fault Ole for the performance. We've seen the starting 11 play quite well. I just think we have literally 15 reliable players in the first team, and if he wants to rotate, he doesn't have options at every position.

My only criticism of Ole is that he has to start 11 of those 15 every match. Get the lead, then cruise.

Really disappoints me seeing criticism of Bruno.

I worry he's going to suffer from what Pogba did, being one of the few good, quick thinking players in a slow team with little support and trying to make things happen. Of course creative players are going to try things that don't come off more than others. It stands out more than some of our (many) play it safe players.

No surprise the through Ball for the red card came from his flick.

All that being said, he must be absolutely knackered. Hope he has the gas to play against Brighton.

Racing back at the 115th minute to defend on his own endline! That is Manchester United spirit. 60 yard sprint to disposses... Fantastic. It wasn't Bruno's best game, but he did have the pass that produced the red card.

Starting 11 let us down except Bruno, Maguire and Ighalo. It's minutes we could have done without. Glad to be in cup and a late goal will give confidence to the team. Warning signs are there for next year, too many players not good enough for United. We need players like Grealish in for depth. Can't rely on mata, Lingard, Dalot, Pierera ect. People are chatting about what we need, better players for the squad!

A big relief to get there in the end, but it took a lot more than we probably expected and we were well off the pace for the majority of the game. The Maguire winner was a great moment that had me out of my seat, but we played a lot of extra football and effort that we didn't need.
