Indeed. If this is called showing leadership quality then Jones was also a leader at some point

People forget how good Jones was before injuries fecked his career. SAF wasn't the only one who thought he was destined for greatness.

He shouldn't have been waved back on there when the ball was passed to shaw.

Something similart happened woth bruno when he was getting treatment and coming back on.

Their coaching staff went mad.

How dare someone not called Keane make a demand or show some passion. This is not the United Way. The United Way is only to discuss what Keane would have done.

That was fecking great to watch. Shaw really needs someone to constantly shout at him to stay awake.

Yeah i think whoever played the pass should have got the talking too, too soft of a pass considering he can see behind Shaw.
I’m of the opinion he’s giving the verbals to Pogba. He’s not even looking at Shaw when he says it. Maybe it was to the whole team. No doubt Shaw should be aware that there was a possibility the ref would pull the boy back on who was off injured but let’s face it we know why this thread was created.

Its just a bit ritch that Maguire who was probably our worst player in the game is being heralded for this when he was all over the shop making mistake after mistake in the game especially after his spurs performance.

We can get away with Shaw whilst we have other transfer priorities but we do need to improve our left back. He's out of position a lot and if teams did target him they would find a lot more opportunities like Mourinho. Whilst the majority of teams are putting more emphasis to improve their right wings with Ziyech, Bernardo, Traore, Bergwijn, Pepe etc. he will get caught out by players who are simply smarter than him. Had he at least had some attacking capabilities to make up for it, that would at least pin the opposite flank but he doesn't really offer much on that front either. Unfortunately he's never looked like he wanted it enough.
He was caught out of position a handful of times in the first half alone, there are so many times when he is inside our box playing in the LCB position and acres of space out on the wing, I cant work out if this planned or just awful positioning by Shaw.

That's just what he does. He's also extremely reluctant to overlap etc. He hangs out there on the wing when a forward run is on as there is cover behind him and then passes it back inside.

He's been like this for years.
That's pretty different from what I've expected, probably due to Shaw's horrible injury. He was known for his bursting run back in the Southampton days and that made him one of the most expensive teenagers at that time. However we have rarely seen him do the same for us.

Two things. The first 20 minutes I’m sure it was a tactic to allow Rashford to stay up top that Shaw would move up in to a winger position and Matic was going across to fill in. Fred has done this as well in a few games. just didn’t seem to be working as at times it was like Sheffield had an overload and it was Shaw vs 2 or even 3 at times with no Rashford in sight and Matic struggiling to get across. There is obviously some sort of tactic to allow Rashford to have more freedom up top.

It was changed after the first water break anyway and Matic would drop more central and Rashford was tracking back.

2nd point. It can’t be easy playing alongside Maguire and keeping a line when Maguire positioning and positional discipline is so terrible you could fit a bus between some of the gaps he leaves which pulls Shaw over to cover him. We’ve seen multiple times this season where Maguire and Lindelof got in a problem Mostly due to Maguire over reaching and Shaw has bailed them out.

As long as everybody gets a well-deserved bollocking, I am all for it. I doubt we have any untouchables in our team. Hopefully, Maguire and DDG received hell of a hairdryer after the Spurs game.

Didn't Ashley Young shout at teammates regularly when he had the armband. What a captain and leader he was too.

I think Lukakku was the ultimate leader with all his pointing.

LB and RW need to be the priorities this window.

Shaw has had so many chances and isn’t good enough, isn’t fit enough and doesn’t have the required application. LB is absolutely essential.

RW because we don’t have one, but LB is THE big position that is most urgently requiring an upgrade.

Maguire should head butted the guy.

Seriously can anyone explain to me what Luke Shaw bring to the table? He's meah in going forward, he's meah in defending, and his concentration level are meah as well.

Luke Shaw is worse than you're making out.

He's by far the worst player currently involved in a starting lineup. Sooner we're rid of him the better. If in the summer we feck him off for a decent left back and Sancho we're on our way to big things again.

Shaw
Lingard
Pereira
Jones
Smalling
Mata (as nice as he is he's on big wages we could use for Sancho).
Sanchez

Bring in LB, RW, ST, CDM and a fast centre back to partner Maguire unless Tuanzebes ready for it.

Beats having to dream of creative midfielders. We're set for now and need replacements for the last wave of shit that's about to leave our club.

How can we be certain he was yelling at Shaw and not his malfunctioning mobile phone? We've all been there.

Mourinho had openly criticized him on a few occassions and despite it might affect dressing room atmosphere
He was right, but wrong to do it publicly. It's the job of the Captain to sort out game to game, and the manager to sort out if it becomes a thing.

We need more strong characters like Maguire, especially in the spine of the team. We do seem to be heading in the right direction though in terms of getting some leaders in the team - Maguire, Matic, Bruno, Pogba, Rashford, McTominay.

I miss the days when we had VDS, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Gary Neville, Scholes, Giggsy, Rooney, Ronaldo etc in the team (leaders everywhere in their own ways)
Giggsy leading his sister in law to his bedroom
Rooney leading grannies or pros to his hotel room.
Both leaders in their own way :nono:

Had even more back in the day with Schmeichel, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Keane, Ince, Robson, Kanchelskis, Cantona, Hughes and McClair.

It’s not even just at United but in football in general as outside of Messi, Ronaldo, Bonucci, Ramos, Thiago Silva I can’t think of anyone that you’d genuinely say was a proper leader on the pitch.

When I think of a leader or proper captain I think of Keane, Robson, Bobby Moore, Baresi, Beckenbauer, Maldini, John Terry and Puyol to name a few but it’s like there’s no longer players in the game like that anymore which is a real shame.

You can't teach concentration. You are either able to or not. To go with his lack of brain power, Shaw is also a very average footballer. An absolute must to replace him in this transfer window.

Is that Maguire's voice?

Shaw tend to have his lapses of poor concentration.
On a more positive note, Shaw is strong enough to receive that kind of normal "criticism".

There are players who couldn't receive that "treatment" well. Need nicer approaches else his performances will get worse.
If you’ve ever played any team sport at any level you’ll know that sort of thing happens every game.

Our chunky boye gets no respect here.
Maybe he will be good captain. Maybe he is already good captain. Maybe he is a really good leader. We will see all that. So far what i see on the pitch doesn't look bad. But all this PR shit by club, our media and some fans is counterproductive and personally i think it is annoying.
How many times you read something about Keano or Vida regarding captaincy? And with Harry it is every few days some shit about that. Like he is fecking Trump. "Harry created whatsapp group", "Harry held a meeting", "Harry gave to charity", "Harry bitch slapped Rashford for swearing in public"....

Really annoying stuff.

I would have decked Maguire right there or told him to piss off if i was Luke. Did he switch on himself prior to the Spurs goal just the other day?
You couldn't even deck the halls with boughs of holly let alone deck El Capitan. He'd flatten you.

I know he scored the winner last night but calm down mate. I’m quite a big size bloke myself
What are you on about? This is football at the highest level if the players aren’t laying into each other they aren’t doing their job.

It didn't look like it was directed at Shaw but more in the general direction of the team. I kind of miss that kind of vocal leadership since Rooney left.
