It’s been well documented that Jose fell out with Ed over not getting the players he wanted & overruling him with player sales (Pogba & Martial)

So it gets me thinking, what was his plan for United had he completely got his way?

Fellaini & Lukaku would still be here. Don’t think he would have got rid of Smalling either. Lingard would probably still be starting. Shaw, Pogba & Martial would be gone. We know he wanted the likes of Sandro, Maguire & Perisic

Maybe something like

DDG
Young Smalling Maguire Sandro
Fellaini Matic
Willian Lingard Perisic
Lukaku

Ive been critical of Ole as a tactician, but I’m so grateful that we have him over Jose for his transfer policy & man management alone.

He would be complaining that he can't get replacements for Perisic and Willian right about now.

Jose Mourinho had a ridiculous stat that United didn't lose a single game from winning position under his 2 and half year long tenure. Clearly his plan was to replace the entire backline with superior defenders than a Smalling or a Jones and a better left back and right back than Shaw or Young and Valencia. That'd have ensured we convert some of our losses into draws and some of our draws into Wins. And that'd have bridged the 19 point gap we had with league leaders at the end of 17-18 season. Instead he was given a Ukranian league midfielder, a third choice Goalkeeper and a 20 year old who hadn't even played 500 minutes of professional first team football.

Perisic was never on the table. Had we gone for him we would not have gone after Sanchez, a lesser evil perhaps. Willian was another lessor evil, in fact I think he would have been a good buy, had we paid whatever ridiculous amount, then we have a usable Right Winger, never gone after Sanchez.

He bought Dalot, Bailly and Lindelof and neglected the left back area in favour of starting Young. We don’t sign those players unless he gives them the final go ahead.

As for the OP, he didn’t have one. The only thing that interested him was burning the club to the ground in an effort to save his own reputation and ego. He’ll do the same at Spurs.

Can already see the beginnings of that at Spurs.

What is it with this guy? It’s like he always has to publicly shame at least one player. He’s already started it with Ndombele.

The man had no plan and was keen to burn the club on the ground. If he was still the United manager, Rashford'd have left, Martial would've been playing for Inter and Greenwood would have been stuck in u23.

That's around 200m talent wasted for a cnut, glad Woodward got rid of him, the only regret is that he should've got rid of him after that ridiculous Sevilla PC.

This total confidence of Mourinho fanboi that had he been allowed to spend more money in the 2017-18 transfer window, we would have been in a much better state always amuses me. The bloke was a total failure.

He would be using the 4-2-3-1 for real (2013-16 Chelsea), like Ole is doing right now. I'm surprised Ole is using Matic because that's 100% Mou.

DDG
Bissaka-Maguire-Alderweireld-Shaw
Pogba-Matic
Willian-Rashford-Sanchez
Lukaku

That is not his plan. We never knew what his plan beyond some fan fiction creating their own narratives

He didn't have one. He was desperate for new toys no matter if it was old and torn. He wanted to sign players no matter what and how big the squad was.

We would have ended up with oldest squad in the league though with players with players like Willian, Perisic, Smalling, Young still playing regularly and if we had enough luck we would have signed Toby and Rose too.

I don't think so. I think that he wanted to build team like he did with Inter. Bunch of players at their peak. With giving minutes to some young players because he knew that it is our tradition and that he must adapt to that. So in perfect world he wanted:
Ddg
Valencia, Varane, Alderweireld Sandro
Matic, Pogba
Perisic (Willian), Griezmann (or another player of that type), Rashford
Lukaku

Posts like this are so funny. Using the word fanboi whilst also claiming the manager who has given us our best two seasons since fergie left a failure.

I'm glad he's gone but he wasn't a total failure.

Awful post.

He would have had Pogba here. He massively fell out with him.

Yes he did left a failure,. His first season was a success, but he spent a feck load amount of money and left us with alienating Rashford, Martial and Pogba - three of our current best players. The team didn't progress under him at all. His second season was basically DDG saving his arse and we were humiliated in UCL. Third season was embarrassing.

I see people putting in Rashford and Pogba in Mourinho's XI just confirms to me that his fanbois here have a warped view of him.

Sure, i a person has just woken up from a 5 year long coma or has been living under a rock and all of a sudden decided to follow Manchester United, than those 2 seasons look alright on paper. But for someone who had witnessed those 2 seasons, the antics, belittling of the club, discord amongst the players, overall toxic surroundings when he was here, those 2 seasons were a fkin nightmare. Ahh yeah, don't forget the utter dogshiit of a football brand that we played under him.

He likely would've got in some good players but getting them to function and be somewhat entertaining is another thing entirely with Jose, that's ofcourse if he doesn't fall out with the majority of them before that.

That first season was not a nightmare. It wasn't perfect but it was decent. Far from a total failure. And if he had built on his second season and actually won the league, instead of doing a Jose, very few people, if anyone in here would be whining.

Like I said, glad he is gone, but a total failure he was not.

What about him and Rashford? He would sell Pogba (wrong decision of course) and loan Martial maybe. But Rashford did play every game and Mourinho loved him and gave him a lots of credits even when Rash was out of form.

Think it would have been Alderweireld for Maguire, SMS for Fellaini and maybe Herrera for Lingard(4-3-3)the rest are very spot on though and I`m also glad he left. Rashford, Pogba and Martial would be thriving elsewhere whilst we`d be struggling to replace 2 ageing average wingers and a ST with no first touch. An attack of Willian/Perisic/Lukaku would NOT have closed the 19 gap on City short or long term and if anything the team would be seriously damaged in the long term.

Herrara and fellaini would no doubt still be here, with lukaku as our starting forward. Rashford probably being the back up striker and martial and pogba long out of sight.

Jeez, the guys do called vision for united was horrible. He would have run the club into the ground.

Thank God we got rid of him.

I think it was mostly drill siege mentality into each and every part of this club. It was always about us vs the rest. This wasn't a healthy approach anymore and the players didn't buy it. It became 'me' vs the rest for Jose.

He wanted warriors on the pitch like he had in the past. He had a few here in Fellaini, Young, Herrera etc.

I had the same reaction regarding Rashford, Mourinho treated him like he treated Martial, they were both in trouble with Mourinho around. The difference is that Rashford had a lot more support locally.

And he'll turn some fans against everyone else at the club, with many of them idolising him till the bitter end and insisting that it's everyone's fault but his.

I always hold a balanced view. I don't get ridiculously angry like some do, either angrily defending that Jose won trophies here, or angrily stating that he was toxic and destroyed a lot behind the scenes.

I believe, he came in, tried to do it his way, he was told some false promises over signings, ended up with half of his preferred team, managed to win some trophies and landed us a top 2 finish. He then had a complete meltdown and left the club. Those who say he was a complete failure are wrong, and those who say he was a complete success and that he should still be here, are also wrong.

I'm sure if he was still here, Lukaku would be scoring just as much as Martial, Matic would be playing as well as he is now, we'd have signed Maguire, Wan Bissaka and either Bruno or a Bruno-type player. We'd probably be about 5th-6th, but in my view with dull, defensive, negative football and negativity around the squad and the club.

For everything that Ole has brought to this club, whether he is good enough or not, one thing I will always admire from him and thank him for as a Man United fan is for bringing the positivity, the team mentality and the hunger back to this club. He's bought himself another 12-18 months in my eyes, just to install that mentality, even if another world class manager comes in and takes this squad on or not.

I'm entering this convo a little late here, but just to clarify. I'm absolutely not a "fanboi", I'm fairly balanced on Mourinho, he had sucess and he had failure and was rightly removed.

He did love Rashford and tried to play him as often as he could, though. I think he was one of the most played outfield players by Mourinho during his time here. I don't think its a warped view to think that.

No the Rashford thing was a media myth, I believe Jamie redknapp used to say it but it wasn't true at all. Jose played him loads.

I think some users are just a bit childish, using phrases like fanboi. With many things these days you have to either say he was awful in every single way or you are his number 1 fan. There is no middle ground. Sad really.

I don’t know, even when he finished 2nd it was clear to see the team was going backwards. Given where it was already that was a feat in itself. That 2nd place finish is like taking home a girl, taking off her bra then finding out she has chicken breasts stuffed in her bra.
The Uefa cup wasn’t great either and we scraped through and in all honesty should have been beaten by Celta Vigo was it. That ex Man City striker saving our blushes by missing that one on the line in the dying minutes.

Jose was probably the biggest mistake this club ever made. Propbably worse than Moyes.
