Is he any good? All I have read about him on here is that he’s Jadon Sancho’s mate
He showed a lot of promise in the youth a couple of years ago but has never really kicked on. Whenever he's played for the first team he hasn't been that impressive and he's definitely undersized to me.

I would've preferred keeping him and giving him a loan but there's nothing much you can do when he's turning down contracts.

I’d be more bothered if we hadn’t signed Bruno- the truth is he’s a long way off the first team! If he takes the Bundesliga by storm then I’m sure he’d always be welcome back

When you are good enough, you are old enough and big enough!

The lads not ready yet, even it would seem, to sit on the bench.

he might not be tearing it up now but he is one of the most talented youngsters in world football. We should categorically make sure he doesn't go to another English club.
He isn't one of the most talented youngsters in world football - he wasn't even a starter in the England youth teams. He has magical feet and I like him and would have liked to have seen him get more minutes ahead of Lingard and Pereira but my suspicion is he is gonna end up as a neat but largely ineffective player.

For me this is a massive exaggeration. I've seen him in youth football quite a few times and at that level he looked very good . He's never shown anything when playing for the first team in his limited appearances. He has had how many managers who continue to overlook him .
If he was one of the most talented youngsters in world football then he would be a first team regular
You've pretty much explained the answer in your own post. He's talented but he can't transfer that into performances in men's football yet.... maybe his size is an issue or maybe it's something else but I've watched him play a lot and he is a genuine world class talent. There's also the element of clubs not giving non committed players game time, everyone does it and it would be naive to think that Gomes wouldn't be playing more if his contract situation was sorted out.
What are his demands? He has an offer on the table, we can’t force him to sign it. I would bet our contract offer is more than generous considering he’s done nothing of note for us. He’ll get game time if he stays, that much is guaranteed under Ole. It’s really up to the player if he wants to leave.
Look at what Chelsea are paying Hudson-Odoi. It's disgustingly immoral amounts of money as apparently he's on more than 100k a week but maybe that's what you have to do to keep these kinds of talents now.
Where's that come from and who said it? I find it hard to believe one of the most talented youngsters in world football couldn't dislodge Lingard or Pereria from the United team, especially when Greenwood, Chong, Williams and McTomminay have all become first teamers around him.
Even TFM got on the bench before him the other day!
It's about the long term and he has even more potential than all of them IMO. Anyway as per my response above. Players that don't commit to a new contract never get any playing time so that's clearly been a factor this season for him.

He’s one of those players that I’ve heard lots about but never seen him play. A lot of hype from Man Utd fans I know but I didn’t realise he’d hardly played.

He's not been linked to any German clubs so this assumption that he's going to join Dortmund is a bit premature.
Isn't that the German way? According to the media they weren't even in real contention for Haaland until the day he signed. Bayern regularly announce deals out of the blue.

How can you actually say he's a world class talent? He has done absolutely nothing to show anyone he is such a talent . He is 20 soon and there is many players at his age who are genuine world class talents . Gomes most definitely isn't one of them

If he joins Dortmund in the next couple of months, you can change my username to anything SFW of your choice for two weeks.

Don't think he's going there either but bookmarked nonetheless because this is 2020 and expect the unexpected.

Back then (1-2 years ago ) it was said Barcelona admired his talents and want to work with him. Wonder if that's still the case and we see him pop up there on a free or a couple of other Spanish clubs.

Agree to disagree. PSG, Barca, Chelsea etc know it that's for sure. I'll feel physically sick if I see him playing for Chelsea or another PL team next season.

Howson was all smug when ITK on twitter were saying Gomes was signing the contract. Like how he knew it a week before and all. Shows how much these insiders really know. They might get few information here and there but by and large, they are useless. Can't believe people actually pay to listen him

Surely he’s gone now?!

Good luck to him, I really like him as a player and thought he would be good for us. Shame.

Did anyone else hear the nonsense spouted on MUTV regarding this situation? Basically saying players of that size will struggle to make it because they are "not physical enough". If we were talking about a player whose main objective was to defend then there would be some merit to that, but other clubs have proven that you can play creative players of that size as long as the talent is there .
players of that size do struggle to make it

Make no mistake THIS IS OLES FAULT

Another reason why i dont think his up for the job and ill stand by that statement

The amount of chances he was giving lingard and pierera when they were clearly out of their depth, lingard not scoring or assisting in the premier league in 1 year yet he was STILL getting in ahead of gomes, let that sink in he was still giving lingard chances ahead of gomes in the number 10 role before we bought Bruno, and not once did lingard play even ok let alone good

I'm fuming, can see why ole got Cardiff relegated he hasn't got a clue,he will never be on klopp or peps level, and man United should be aiming higher than this fraud.

Watch gomes go on to become a world class player

Im disgusted ...

He only started twice in the U17 world cup win and came off the bench in most games. I remember there being a hoo-ha about it on these boards as people were annoyed he wasn't starting.

If he wants regular football he won't get it at Utd.
Good luck to the bloke and let us see how he does at his next club.

It was coming. Chong made a u turn, but usually it doesn't happen. I could see in pre season and at the start of the season something wasn't right. He never played much, which was weird considering Chong, Pereira and Lingard were stinking up the place at some point.

I think he will make it if he makes the right move now. I know some talk about size, but it doesn't matter if you are an excellent player. I think he will be a great player one day, i rate him highly. In a couple of years, we will want him back.

Never saw the ability that others do with Gomes. Admittedly he’s a good technician and has ability in the ball.

He was recovering from an injury and as there were so many other great talents in that team they could afford to use him sparingly. He's not a natural leader, he was made captain because of what he could do on a football pitch and would have started every game in normal circumstances.
Some massive under-appreciation of how good this kid is on here. Perhaps his size could be an issue long term but I've a feeling this could be Pogba 2.0.

Because he just returned from injury and couldn’t handle playing in the Indian heat. Every time he entered the pitch he was given the armband.

Pogba has come off the bench in matches lately. Guess he just isn’t that good and only a bench player.

Not a natural leader yet he’s captain every team he’s played for? Yea sounds about right. He’s a leader and a talent.

I have been a huge fan of Gomes for a number of years. I have never been bothered about his size, I think his technical ability and balance help manage that. He is a classy player who needed game time last and this season. I can understand the hesitation of putting him in our squad now and where we completely f up, was not allowing him a loan move last Jan and this season. I think Ole's reluctance to play him and let him move on loan is the reason behind him not signing a contract - and i do not blame him. I have read 30k is the figure on the table, he may not get that anywhere else unless Juve step in, but this is times of COVID. He is turning down money for playing time, the boy has a good head on him if that is the case. We will never know the truth, but that is my assumption.

Sadly, it looks like he is off. I think he will be a fantastic player in a few years and we have let a gem run away. I hope he goes off to Dortmund who have a real history of developing younger players. I could also see him doing really well in Spain and the Premier League. Best of luck Angel, no hard feelings to u on this!.

The press rarely have a clue about youth players.

I suspect Gomes has received numberous contracts elsewhere - this is pretty much Dortmunds MO.

Offer young talent decent contracts to move on a free, train them up and sell them for a profit. I wouldn't be shocked to see that happen.

We will see anyway, not sure moving to another english club will be good for him and Germany is in vogue right now.

Especially if Bellingham goes and Sancho is already there (who he is/was close with)

Amazing you have some how managed to spin a youth player leaving into a slamming Ole post

I'm not sure Ole rates this kid and this has been apparent from pre season. I hope Ole hasn't made a big mistake
