So no deal at all then.....
What the feck. That's the summer over.
No words.
Why even call him a target if you want him for that price?
We paid 30m more for Maguire ffs,
Come on lads, you're better than to believe a leak to skysports. It's obviously a negotiating tactic, timed just after Dortmund themselves said they have no reason to sell Sancho for a good price. The fact we are leaking the media on a budget for a certain player shows that we are categorically going for him as a target. This only ends one way, it's just a matter of whether it will be stretched (like Maguire) or if we can just snap him up quicker.

Absolutely certain this is just the start of that same media cycle timeline we saw with Wan Bissaka & Maguire last summer and Bruno in January. Quite clear there is nothing to see here on this one

This means we're actually interested in signing him, so id take it. This is the club trying to negotiate a reasonable price, im sure we are expecting to pay above 50 million. Besides, sky havent been the most accurate with transfer talk.
It means very little really. Sky know nothing as you said yourself.

So let me get this straight... Woodward has been criticised in the past for saying that we have money to spend.. Now, in the midst of a global pandemic, we're being criticised for saying that money is tight..?

In Sancho, there is a player who wants to leave. We want to buy. We have the money, but we're playing a game.

Of course we'll pay more than 50m for him, this is just a negotiation tactic to lower the price

The thing is if it is a negotiating tactic and as others have said, something we do often, we are pretty bad at it. We always end up paying the full whack. We even paid the entire Maguire money up front.
The only way this makes sense is if we think Dortmund are desperate.

And AWB, we ended up paying full price on both. We have Del Boy leading negotiations it seems.
Well, paying full price is better than paying more than the release clause, so it’s a progress, I guess

Loads of people on here for starters and rightfully so. Boasting about having most money will only make you pay even more of a premium. Club is taking the correct stance about Sancho.

And so it begins Dortmund - we wont except anything lower than 100M
United - we arent paying over 50M and this will go back and forth for weeks . I see people comparing it with Bruno , we also did it with AWB and Maguire . Strap in lads it's going to be a rollercoaster of BS till its sorted out .

 Imagine this quote today was "We'll gladly pay £100m for Sancho". Dortmund would be saying "we've re-evaluated his worth, nothing less than £200m!" next week.

Sure, but I think Maguire + Leicester was a different case. Dortmund have a player with a year left on his contract and the club have been hit with a £45m loss. They will need to be flexible I reckon.

Classic case of brinkmanship. That 50m figure for Sancho will go up and Utd will eventually agree a fee of around 80m plus add ons rising to 100m after weeks of negotiations.

These were just a few articles showing that the clubs where we supposedly met the valuation isn’t true and it started over what we ended up paying.

People also conveniently forget City offered 70 million for Maguire.

I get the clubs recruitment has been poor at times and it seems to drag on forever but there seems to be selective memory on some things to suit agendas.

I'd actually say it's got a lot better after the last few years and the unwillingness to overpay is what die for Mourinho.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
In this market where nobody knows if football will be even played in October let alone with crowds 50m is closer to his valuation than the 120m Dortmund say they want. I’m not entirely sure people are grasping the financial reality here. Dortmund just made a 45m loss, if there’s a second wave they may make an even bigger loss next year and they have an asset who wants to leave, who was benched at the end of the season and who will be worth half as much next year in potentially an even worse market for selling clubs. If I was in their position then anything around 70m would be seriously tempting.

Exactly, I think this is really what was alluded to about United being able to exploit the market this summer, not by spending record sums but being in a position to spend money at all which may well be unachievable for many clubs. Being in a stable financial position and being able to offer 50 mil in this climate will be hard to turn down for some clubs. No its not what his rate was last year but potentially a 50 mil sale will mean more to a football club in a year of uncertainty than what last year's going rate might have been.

Not to say we're alone in this equation by any means (Chelsea have been quickest out of the blocks it seems) but I think its prudent to play hardball and get the best deal. Its ludicrous to think the same fees will apply and clubs should just pay the previous going rate.

Juventus did. €41M profit off Pjanic

Because they needed the money. Also because they seemingly aren't happy with Arthur's off pitch life -seems like he's a party animal- and finally they aren't sure about his tactical fit

That said swapping him for Pjanic, who has the same problem of tactical fit, and is 30, stinks of desperation on their part
But what money? They made less than 10M on the swap...I mean if you saw it as an individual buy and not as a swap would you pay 60M for a 30 year old Pjanic?

A pretty bad deal no matter how you look at it.

This could be the start of a very long drawn out saga that will not be over in time for pre season or even the start of the season, if at all.

I don't know. It seems we are trying to get this done early. Don't these reports come out when the window is open. The season hasn't even finished and we are seeing reports already

We all know how this ends...we will pay 100M on the last day of the transfer market.

With Maguire and Bruno it was exactly the same, Woodward is the worst bluffer in the business.
apart from we got a really good deal with Bruno...

I think so because landing Sancho might hinge on being able to offload Lingard, Pereira, Jones, Smalling and Dalot. And that's not gonna happen in 1 week.

Yeah both are arguably our best players this season, I don't really see why people are bothered how much we pay and when.
because people like to moan and there is a popularity in slating Woodward
