I was thinking more the other way - I'm not English but I'd imagine Premier League players are paying what, 40-50% tax on their wages?

If scarpering off to Italy on a loan means he can avoid paying that because he's residing out of the country then he's absolutely laughing. It can't be though - there would be uproar.
UK tax is 45% and Italy’s is 43%. There isn’t a big difference. There is NI too but I’m sure Italy must have something similar too.

He’ll be liable for tax on worldwide income in Italy and I guess the portion of wages we pay would be classed as UK sourced income so he’d be liable to pay tax on that in the UK. He’d file under the double taxation treaty for that part so he doesn’t pay tax twice but he’d have to pay the higher rate which is the UK one.

Nice one. Makes me a feel a little bit better that 43/45% of that wage is providing some sort of value at least.

The big issue with the Sanchez signing and with most of the other signings before Ollie got the job was there wasn't proper due diligence on the player background and the suitability to be United players. Sanchez's form and injury record had deteriorated for his last six months at Arsenal, we still went ahead and signed him. I believe we are improving on our signings and becoming more professional with our approach, not before time.

His decline is weird because his engine for us was immense. 9 months before he signed he'd finished the season on 24 goals and 10 assists in the league, 30 goals in all comps. 8 goals and 3 assists in the first half of the season you signed him. The difference was Wenger played him as a false 9 in his prolific season and as a wide forward with licence to roam. Where as Mourinho expected him to start attacks in his own half and track back. He didn't get support in attacks in the same way. He also nearly always selfish and overdribbled. This is a much bigger sin in your own half. Because when he was in the final third doing it and losing the ball it was annoying but it paid off about once a game. Still crap for overall team play but a sacrifice that would net a goal or assist or 2 a game. Still it makes me wonder if his confidence nose dived afterwards. Note one of his few goals for you was against us.

Quite an astonishing decline. Like others I was buzzing when we signed him. Like you say he constantly gave the ball away for us he couldn't even pass the ball 10 yards to a teammate. An absolutely dreadful signing

Must be the worst transfer ever for United, money wise.
I wish there's a stat about the amount of money We've spent compared to the number of minutes We got out of him, and the number of assists + goals.
Must be a pretty shocking stat.

I wonder, with these big contracts, is the anything written in around 'underperformance'? I mean if there are goal bonuses etc. then surely there are also clauses around underperforming players.
In short, and I'm just speculating here, I reckon United must have something in his contract that could allow us a way out of the deal based on his performances. Putting out on loan should be evidence enough of his lack of contribution.

I highly doubt any player would accept that in a contract, besides the fact that “underperformance” would be pretty tough to define and then measure, as opposed to goal/clean sheet bonuses.

This is a fair objective summary that I am incapable of formulating myself as I'm just so disappointed in the whole fiasco. To be so excited about a signing then watch it become emblematic of everything that is wrong with your club doesn't leave much room for rational enquiry, and I just want him off the wage bill and out of the club. But yeah I think he has had some physical decline but was also played out of his favoured position and expected to save a team that was about to hit the rocks under Jose, and even though he was a big player on horrendous money pressure and confidence are real things for any player to deal with.

I must admit I was one of those completely surprised by the Sanchez transfer from Arsenal, to my mind he was always a player who needed a team to play a certain way to get the best out of him, the way his national team did, they were all there to get the best out of him. I was never convinced Jose wanted him at all, a bit like Mata was forced on Moyes, Woodward with one eye on his shirt sales, forced Sanchez on Mourinho. Whilst Sanchez skill at his peak was obvious, he did not really fulfil his potential at Barcelona, or Arsenal and certainly not with us, injuries apart, his style of play didn't suit ours. Now with Pogba, who we know from the second half against City, he can play with and Fernandez available, maybe we will see a more lethal Sanchez?

Given that Ole was more than willing to let him go, and if we could off load him we would, I doubt Sanchez will get the chance to impress, except in 'cameo roles' when we are four goals up, or if a sudden rush of injuries to our front men occur. We know it shouldn't but his wage bill compared with most others at United is outrageous in terms of his past performances and you wonder if this is something that might cause restlessness in the ranks? Hope not!

You must did not read the news around the time we sign him I think? Plenty reports said Jose was desperate to sign Sanchez, especially beating Pep to do so. We're so desperate that we offered a fecking huge package for him to refuse City and came to us.

What do we do? He can’t play on the wings anymore and no club on earth pays their backup number 9 400 grand a week..

I can see a scenario where we pay him off the 30 odd million remaining on his contract and he goes back home to Chile.
There’s no way he’s hanging round the squad with his attitude

Still think it was Woodward and his shirt sales, when he addressed the New York shareholders he told them the sale of Sanchez shirts in the first three months was a record for a new United player, I never heard one quote directly attributable to Jose about signing Sanchez, until after it happened.

I don't think his wages will cause an issue, because everyone in the squad knows he’s done, and he’s not a first team player, and if he does come back it’s because we can’t get rid of him.

With 2 years left on his contract, I can see us offering him a severance to get rid of him.

he is not worth a place in the squad.

Contract: till 30 June 2022

As a footballer: 2 years probably but not PL level, and definitely not 400k a week level.
God almighty what an awful signing. Remember his piano video when he signed? I’d love if he could come back, get fit and at least be an option for 15 minutes off the bench but don’t think he’d even be good enough to do that. At least Mhiki didn’t go and tear the league up at Arsenal though.

Google a bit and you'd see. For example here:

Mourinho said:
“We fought to have him here and I was, since day one, sure that he was the right player.

Or here: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...mourinho-arsenal-badly-sign-a8172926.html?amp

We all know Jose. If Sanchez wasn't his choice but Ed's choice, we'd heard him moaning about like a hundred times already I think.

Anyone knows if he can play for us in last games of the season as well as the europa league if his loan isn't extended ?

I would give him a few opportunities before the end of the season to see if he can thrive in a more creative team with Pogba and Bruno. it won't be worse than what James has been offering us in that right side.

Inter fans on Reddit were calling Sanchez a game-changer last night - even saw one say "hope we manage to keep him"... God I hope they manage to keep him

These are all comments made post Sanchez's arrival, once he'd arrived what else was Jose to say?

My point is that like Mata's arrival, the Sanchez signing came out of the blue, neither manager; Moyes with Mata, nor Jose with Sanchez, looked convinced. Of course both players were of quality but its arguable they were what each manager needed, or indeed had asked for at the time.

How about this then ?
Mourinho said: “The team is lacking nothing.
“But if you have the chance to get some special players, some player in special circumstances, some player you would do in the summer and you have the chance to now, that’s a special situation and you try to do it.”
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...ester-united-manchester-city-next-season/amp/

I've showed you plenty to back up what I said. You have anything to back up yours? If not then we'd better stop here I think. Tbh I start to find this a wasting of time.

Was also trying to find positives about him in recent weeks. Then turned on an Inter game and noticed the guy looks to have aged 50 years in a few months, and plays to match that look.
That sucked whatever positivity I had towards him right out.

He just needs to be offloaded and sent away from the squad for ever.

Please be true. Even if we have to pay half of his salary.

I have a friend who supports Inter and he said fans there like him, quite a big surprise tbh. Hope they'd take Lingard, Pereira too

Just wondering here. Don't footballers also have a clause to live up to any performance standards.

If I under performed on my job and consistently so, then I would be fired as there is a provision in my contract to do so.

Good point. I suspect we just need to write off Sanchex and get rid at a massive loss. I cant see him adding any value. He is finished.

Would these standards be subjective or would we be saying we can fire you if you don't score us 10 goals etc?

No way any club is going to pay a player off - he's an asset and even if they don't play him, they'll have him train unless he's a bad apple in which case he'll train alone
I can't see us getting Sancho this summer so the RW is still basically Greenwood, who has looked good, and then you have the fringe Lingard, Mata, James guys who can all do a job but are really limited in my eyes. If, and that's a huge if, Sanchez can get back to 50% of what he was at Arsenal, he'll b a good covering player for the front line. Let's stop blaming him for being paid so much, that wasn't his choice, and face that if we can;t shift him to Inter he could still have a bit part role at least.
