Where do you rank Mason Greenwood as a talent?

He’s obviously a very different player to likes of Mbappe, Haaland, Rooney and other greats. I’m actually struggling to compare him to anyone really. He’s not rapid but he isn’t slow. His movement and football IQ as an attacker is immense. His little dummy to take the defender out for the first goal — at 18 years of age — was insane. I mean I’m struggling to remember a more two footed attacker although my football knowledge isn’t anywhere near as good as some on this forum so perhaps someone could help out. He’s also so comfortable on the ball and he constantly does basic things very well. Very solid performance at all times.

Anyway what are you thoughts on this?
For me he’s the best English talent since Rooney but of course very different players. He will be the best striker at our over the next 15 years.

Feels like outside of United he's really not being spoken about which is weird as the English media usually get giddy with young players, Sancho for that matter doesn't get a lot of talking about either but I guess that's because he plays in Germany

Seems like Foden is the only young English player the media are really gushing over

At his age, best I’ve seen since Giggs or Rooney and better than Ronaldo in his first season with us

Dunno what sites you're reading, they're both hyped up massively around the place, especially Sancho.

He's an exceptional talent at this age just like Mbappe. He even came around and made his breakthrough in a pretty difficult period for us before Bruno came in. If he keeps on developing steadily he can become one of the best players in the world.

Ronaldo is a weird one. He was obviously talented but no one, no one could have predicted what he became.

The best talent I’ve seen come out of our academy in my lifetime, which includes the Class of 92.
Absolutely incredible talent at 18 y/o.
You can't really argue with that, none of the Co92 were bossing senior games at his age. I think Rooney arguably looked better around this age, but not by much at all.

Correction - Greenwood is actually rapid. It's just that his style of play makes it look differently.

He is the real deal, world class talent without a shadow of a doubt.

He has gone up a gear post lockdown. Before COVID-19, he was inconsistent and also weak. But the added muscle and confidence has had a big impact. Am sure all of world football will be noting his impacts now.

Very big development opportunity for him in next two summers given euros and World Cup will be played in back to back summers. He could announce himself as the player of his generation if he can make an impact then.

It's hard to compare because of different positions, Mason is definitely the best forward, but Scholes was the best midfielder for me.

I'm just glad Mason is at United, if he was at a different club we'd be paying Sancho money for him in 2 years when he hit 20. If Mason continues to grow as he is now, by the time he's 20-21 there'd be £120M+ price-tags on him.

He definitely just needs to play as he's playing now, keep the pressure off him, let him play in various positions.

You can sometimes see players like Mason have a few good weeks then burn out, and struggle to get back to form, so just keep giving him 60-70 minutes, ease him in, let him build himself up in the gym... protect him in general and by the time he's 20 he will be a star.

Hoping Mason hits the levels we think we can, but nothing is given... he still needs to put in the work.

Keep Rashford, Mason and Sancho (if United sign him) together at all times, and then the english NT will be scary.

I think if he stays clear of serious injuries, he'll break all sorts of records for us. He's so refined technically, natural goalscoring instincts, doesn't rely on pace but is fast anyway, and generally a smart player.

I don't think I have been as excited over a young player in his debut season for us since Ronaldo and Rooney. And it did not start that way too. The excitement slowly built over the season and exploded since the restart.

I have never been as excited about a young United player as I have about Mason. The last comparable player was Whiteside.

He’s fast but he’s not what Owen was and certainly not what Mbappe is. Actually speed is weirdly similar to RVP. Worth remembering RVP was a winger for Arsenal and had a bit in the tank — though it was deceptive imo.

He’s clearly very talented. Please give him a bit of time before we get the Ronaldo and Mbappe comparisons though. Setting the poor sod up to disappoint if we get too carried away

I've heard the term 'natural finisher' a thousand times, but the way this boy makes it look sooo easy. Even Mbappe relies a bit on his athleticism at times.

Lots of people saying Rooney was miles ahead of him but isn’t Greenwood already more consistent, in terms of goals per starts? Rooney’s all round game and influence was probably ahead at this age (mainly because he was bigger/stronger) but I don’t think he was as consistent a goal-scorer. Greenwood has every chance of out-scoring him.

He is only 18 so its really hard to tell.
But judging from his talent and development as a 18 year old, I think he is behind L.Ronaldo, Mbappe, Messi, Rooney and Ronaldo, but probably same level as Halaand, or maybe just behind Sancho. Last time I've seen such a young natural finisher in England, is probably Fowler or Owen.

I really want to see that. Those 3 leading the line for United and England for the whole decade. It will be insane.

Reminds me a bit of Bergkamp. His movement with the ball is majestic. He floats around the pitch. His finishing is something else. Could well become our best ever striker.

Absolutely. As far as goalscoring, Grewnwood is a proper elite talent. He's scoring goals for fun with limited playing time and from the right. I pretty much expect him to score and him not doing so surprises me. I never got that feeling with Rooney, who was undoubtedly a better all round football at the same age. More creative, better passer, more explosive etc

That's why I'm not sure where Greenwood lies on the talent scale. As I find other attributes easier to rely on for some reason. But regardless he is definitely a special talent.

Rooney had better all round game and was much more ‘busy’ at 18 I think. Though my memory is hazy. Mason does simple things really well and his ball retention is fantastic — definitely better than Rooney at his age but Rooney had the audacity to clip 50 yard balls and create chances at will — his end product was always going to suffer because of that.

Phenomenal talent. I’ve been watching Utd since 1994 and this kid is as good as they come. Just the ability to have such a strong weapon on both feet is incredible. For me, this is a bigger weapon than pace, power etc for a striker because you are lethal in any situation around the box.

he’s better than anything I’ve seen from our academy at his age and that’s having seen the class of 92 come through. He’s going right to the top!

Ronaldo and Rooney both had memorable debuts but struggled to maintain the consistency. Greenwood will struggle at some point but he's flying right now and already deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as those 2. I'm not usually one for hyperbole but, talent-wise, he's definitely in that kind of rarefied company.

Reminds me of Van Persie, two footed, clever, lethal finisher, but faster and potentially physically stronger as he gets older!

Yeah. It has to happen. Aside from the footballing talent, it’s also worth £$€ in terms of sponsorship revenue for the club. It’s a perfect scenario from every aspect.
