Utterly disgraceful!

Romario had comparably questionable attitude to football.

https://ronaldo.com/football-news/football-misfits-romario-the-brazilian-who-surpassed-pele/

Even Romario himself confessed that he was always willing to make an escapade in order to go out partying, especially if there were women involved.

Cruyff explains: “One time, Romario asked me if he could miss two days of training to return to Brazil for the carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

“I replied: ‘If you score two goals tomorrow, I’ll give you two extra days rest compared to the other players.’

“The next day, Romario scored his second goal 20 minutes into the game and immediately gestured to me asking to leave. (Mid game)

He told me: ‘Coach, my plane leaves in an hour’. I had no choice but to let Romario leave for fulfilling his promise.”

Of course, the game was against none other than El Clasico rivals Real Madrid.

And Romario went one better than promised — netting a hat-trick as Barcelona won 5-0 at the Nou Camp.

EDIT : Besty disappeared for a full week to spend time with Mrs Britain and drank himself silly.

Ronaldinho’s former PSG team-mate Jerome Leroy, who told SFR Sport: “Ronaldinho did not train at all on any day of the week. He would just turn up on the Friday for a game on the Saturday.

“That was Ronaldinho. I believe he tried to follow in the footsteps of Romario, who also went out every night, but did not have the same success.”

Leroy also told So Foot: “In the mornings, Ronaldinho would turn up in sunglasses. He would get dressed and go directly to the massage rooms to sleep. Players with his enormous talent are usually a little crazy.”

Wenger on Ozil "He doesn’t practise a lot, we rest him a lot between the games. He is a guy who once the basic fitness is there between the games, he wants to play.”

Ravel wants to be the modern day Carlos Kaiser but perhaps wasn't as talented as the guys who could get away with this behaviour
That Romario anecdote from Cruyff is hilarious. "Coach, my plane leaves in an hour"

Ravel shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath, let a lone zip code as Romario, Best and Ronaldinho, even Ozil.

Perhaps there's something of a curse when it comes to being highly rated in the youth ranks. Perhaps you're more likely to succeed when you're the second best talent and have more to prove in your formative years while the #1 talents lose the hunger.

Doherty vs Giggs
Quaresma vs Ronaldo
Morrison vs Pogba

Sure there are other examples and plenty of counter examples to go with it
RIP Adrian :(

I suppose the difference is these characters had proved it and made it by the point they were taking this piss....

 Romario wasn't serious about football saying things like that during el classico.
Astonishing
Indeed. Although you could argue that he was so good, he didn't need to be serious. It's a ridiculous level of talent.

Good observation, maybe another factor is the type of "trouble" they went looking for, well, everyone except Ozil.

I noticed they signed Zivkovic on loan in January. Wilder must fancy his chances at getting the best of former hotly tipped prospects. Fairly low risk approach and one that could eventually pay off.

Imagine how great Best, Ozil, Romario, Ronaldhino would have been if they fully applied themselves to the sport. Imagine if they had the dedication of Ronaldo and determination of Messi. Best and Ronaldhino would be in that argument for top five/six of all-time IMO had the former not drank himself to death and the latter carried that world class form from 02-06 another half decade or more.

its crazy to think but you are right. I cannot understand how people can be one of the greatest in the world but skip training, party or not apply themselves in training. Polar opposite to the basketball stars who shoot 1500 jump shots every day. Imagine Le Tissier if he came through now. He would be much fitter and better managed.

So sickening that players like that couldn’t be arsed, most footballers would do anything to to have their abililty.

If it was a one off game I’d still pick Best and Dinho over Ronaldo and Messi, unreal talents.

checked Boro line up today out of interest and seems hes gone from starting on the weekend to not in the squad today - so normal service is resumed!

And if any Mod is reading this then the Title needs to be changed, he's officially left Sheffield United and will be a free agent at end of season

Wilder said his time is up at Sheffield Utd https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...avel-morrison-leaves-sheffield-united-2905789
Although this article today says hes going back to Sheffield from Boro but Im pretty sure hes a free agent yet again
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53472609

Midfielder Ravel Morrison has ended his loan spell at Middlesbrough after boss Neil Warnock told him he was no longer required at the Riverside.
Morrison, 27, was signed until the end of the season from Sheffield United in January by Warnock's predecessor Jonathan Woodgate.
However, he played just three games and was left out of the squad for last weekend's defeat by Cardiff City.
"I don't think I'd use Ravel again this season," said Warnock.
"So I told him as far as I was concerned I thanked him for what he's done since I've been here and then let him go."
Morrison has had a nomadic career, with Boro his 11th club since breaking into Manchester United's first team in 2010.

He's surely going to run out of managers willing to give him a chance pretty soon

It's amazing that he still hasn't seemingly sorted out his attitude so that a manager is willing to play him

What is it with him? Missing training regularly and stuff? Surely he’d have figured it out by now that if he wants to stay at a club he needs to train hard and get the head down for a few years. Wonder where he ends up next.

According to who?

He’s been publicly praised for his training by Woodgate, Wilder, and Burchnall.

It’s amazing on here that if you aren’t amazingly successful you automatically have a terrible attitude.

Incredible, according to some people here he should be starting for Man Utd.

I think it's simpler than that. His level is probably not up to the clubs he ends up at.

Some other random club will give him a chance and you'll still get people saying this could be the move to restart his career.. could be a good move.. there's still time etc.

He's done.

Come on there's a reason he's not being picked to play anywhere he goes and it's well beyond the point with him where you expect him to be successful (in relative terms), while he's a professional footballer the bare minimum anyone 'expects' is that he actually plays the odd game here and there

I can imagine it may be a tricky one for managers with a limited budget to call. Oh this lad is free and might still be very good if he can get fit and knuckle down. So he gets fit and still isn’t up to the required standard. He’s missed a decent amount of football and development over the years. I guess It wouldn’t be that surprising that he’s just not advanced enough at his age to ever get a longer deal.

Maybe he's just not good enough?

Personally I think he gets moves based on his reputation, then once he gets there everyone sees hes just not good enough.

Alternatively, maybe the ego within the managers wins out because they want to be the one that finally got a tune out of Ravel Morrison.

His rep isn't good though

I see what you're saying though and yeah at the lower levels clubs do need to take punts on players just hard to fathom how he's not been good enough for any of the clubs he's played for in recent years

I think in football you can get away with not being particularly smart and still have a very decent career. Do you mean he’s argumentative and hard to work with?
Wilder seems like a good manager who gets the most out of limited resources. I feel like If there was anything there left to salvage with Ravel he’d still be there.

He is useless.
