Ole: We need a left-footed center back, so keep going
Time to start the muppet train?

I’m starting to like Ole. Mainly because of his idea of a good player

Serious note I was impressed again with his performance the other day and we can’t rely on our back up CB. I think he would be perfect and ready to be a partner for Harry or Vick.

Mainly made this thread because I was hoping Ole was going to speak to him like he does after the game and he did.

Apparently told him best of luck we need a left footed CB.

What?

Ole said ‘you need a bit of luck from your centre-backs — just keep going’

The captions in video are wrong, give it a listen :)

Can’t understand a word Ole said, he’s finally sounding like a Man Utd manager.

It does sound like that a bit, but I don’t know if that’s because he actually said that or because that’s what I’m listening out for so it sounds like it.

He definitely said "we need a left footed centreback, so just keep going".

But I don't think that necessarily means Ole is considering Ake as his number one target. This is typical business schmoozing you see when they're with prospective clients.

Solksjaer loses nothing by saying it, but potentially gets an advantage in the future by being nice.

Why would Ole say "you need a bit of luck from your centre backs?" That makes no sense. The caption may say that but Ole did not. He said "we need a left footed centre back". He was also very aware of where the camera was when he said it...

I think he'd be bought to play as a deep-lying playmer/DM if a big club bought him. He's too weak aerially to be a central defender for a top 4 club

I keep hearing this. Worse than Lindelof would you say? Can't help but feel like a pacey left footed CB might just be what Maguire needs.

Could be a decent low risk buy for the fee Bournemouth would want if they went down. Squad player fee. If he's better than that, perfect. Currently we have Lindelof, Bailly and Maguire who are fit. If we can get him for 20 odd mil, it could be shrewd bit of business. He's bought as a squad player for that money, or he's the perfect foil for Maguire and we get a cut price starting CB.

So it seems like we could be in the market for a CB. A left footed one too. There's one at Lille who is pretty good and still very young at 22.

Need depth at the back. Smalling likely to stay at Roma, Jones and Rojo hopefully off, Bailly's future up in the air and Tuanzebe seems to be having a really hard time with injuries. Would make sense to get him in. Leaves us with Lindelof and Maguire so thin at the back.

Id take him in a heartbeat with Bournemouth possibly going down we may be available to get him on the cheap I think around 20-25M would do the trick.

We will possible offload Smalling, Rojo and Jones and having Tuanzabe and Bailly that are injury prone having a reliable back up option wouldnt be a bad idea.

I like Ake. Woudnt be a bad buy at all, but is he head and shoulders above Lindelof? Probably not! If we're going to replace Lindelof, then it has to be a top class centre back, in my opinion.

Having said that, Ake does have the right attibutes to compliment Maguire.

Also, wonder if Ole is thinking of putting Maguire on the right?

I was thinking about that myself. Especially considering it looks like he's talking about getting a left footed CB. Makes a lot of sense if we could bring him in.

Good choice. Can also play left back, decent on the ball and is quite fast.

Still prefer Dunk but would be happy with Ake. Key point is Ole does acknowledge there is an issue with CB pairing

Not completely sold on him but he could be available for cheap if Bournemouth get relegated. Also he gets quite a few goals as a CB.

It's really hard to judge Ake defensively from watching him so many years. Everytime I watched Bournemouth, they look shaky in defense but then again it's a team's fault not individual. Very good technically though and despite of his height, he's way better than Lindelof in aerial duel & doesn't miss the ball when heading it. Worth of punt for his cost.

So, how good is Ake? Understand he's quite good on the ball and also fairly quick. What about his aerial ability and positioning?

He is not even 6ft is he?
Luke Shaw can do a job there anyway and he is quicker and stronger than Ake

He'd be worth a punt as a squad option to replace Rojo and provide competition for Lindelof. He might be a bit better

He is good, and could give competition to the other two decent CBs we have. But he is also aerially weak, leaving Maguire as the only defender who can head the ball.

It could also be Salisu or Pau Torres, considering they're left footed CBs we've been linked with in recent weeks.

A quick comparison of heading stats shows that Salisu is better than both Torres and Ake. But that's all I can say about them.
