I am the only one that find ubisoft games repetitive and tedious.

Assasins Creed - Climb something
Farcry - Radio tower
The Division - Safe houses.

Go to an area, use above place to unlock area of the map. Complete a few decent missions, but then do side missions, the same 3 or 4 side missions that repeat heavily throughout the game.

The Assassin's Creed series frustrate me because they all look amazing games, with a real diverse story telling, yet the gameplay just fails miserably

Yeah i agree with this in terms of game play it's repetitive, i don't bother with the side tasks in AC as it's just the same thing. The reason i play them as i'm interested in history and they recreate historical places quite well , you get a feel of what it was like and it's backed up with gorgeous graphics.

I've never actually completed The Witcher, but I know it's held in high regard, so imagine taking the Assassin's Creed games and adding story telling and mission designs like that to the game, they'd go down as one of the greatest series of all time.

I like you would enjoy the historical side of the game, but I just can't be arsed with all the shite you have to trawl through.
I gave Odyssey and the Egyptian one a chance, but soon gave up on them. Would like to get Valhalla, but It'd surely be a waste for me

All of that is true but many people enjoy the formula (including me) and can just see it for what it is - a fun game with not much depth. Nothing wrong with that but they put so much effort into these games you would like to think they could be a bit more original and creative sometimes.

I wasn't a big fan of the Witcher either, although i thought it was a good game. I've just got back into the AC games and i just play the story then uninstall it.

With Odyssey and Origins I found exploring the open world the best part of the game. They also succeeded at recreating historic cities, traditions etc from the past, which was amazing.

Playing Odyssey now I am a level 13 and have to level up to 17 to fight the next boss, was getting bored before this thinking I might just set the controller down for good, it’s such a tedious game.

Should I play on is it worth it?

Haven't AC games always been open world?

Haven't played them for quite a while, but it does seem like they gradually completely gave up on the whole assassin bit. You'd think they're just keeping the name because it guarantees sales.

You're certainly not the only one. People have been complaining about this since a good 6-7 years when all of their games started follwing the same formula. Around the time of Far Cry 3, Watchdogs and Assassin's Creed 3-4. The term "open-world fatigue" is pretty much Ubisoft's fault.

Not really a fan of Cinematic trailers as they don't really show me anything of the actual game other than the setting and a bit of the story, they're cool though I'll give them that.

I really liked Origins and Odyssey was an improvement on that but I'd seen reviews that said they were way too bloated and it seemed that they were purposely designed that way to entice you to buy the leveling up booster which actually made the game length feel right so I waited till it was discounted and then bought the booster which probably did work as I never felt there was a huge grind to progress.

I love this series though and ill certainly be getting this, hopefully Ubisoft will trim the bloat and offer a good 30hr game with a good feeling of progression without resorting to dirty grindy tricks.

I guess I'm in the minority of those that really loves the huge, massive open-world map in both Origins and especially Odyssey. The exploration and the traveling all added tremendous value to the experience, but it all depends on the player. If you're the kind of person who likes a tightly-knit story within a relative dense map, then of course a vast and open world to explore isn't going to be your cup of tea.

After Valhalla, I hope that they cover the period of the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage. I think that's a real winner of a time period, and especially because on either side you've Scipio Africanus and Hannibal Barca.
I did like/appreciate the size of the map in a way - really did make you feel like you were just traipsing around Greece, which was quite cool.

The issue for me was just that it was a) a bit too samey after a while and b) I hated the naval battles... also for some reason I just can't ignore missions/tasks when i'm playing games, and there was just too many of them.

Bought Origins and didn't even finish it, and I also made the mistake of purchasing Odessy thinking it would be any different, didn't finish it either.

I have no issue with the RPG element, but the world just feel flat, there is no immersion. It's just endless boring tasks upon another. It's a shame because I really love the AC story. Will probably wait a few weeks after release to decide if I buy this one.

Yeah, if they actually put effort in to em and didn't just bash them out they'd be incredible games. Even Black Flag, which is great fun (for a bit) and highly rated is ridiculously repetitive and somewhat lifeless.

Last night after watching the Valhalla trailer, I went back and watched a bunch of trailers/cinematics from the Ezio trilogy. Its such a shame, the direction they have taken the series in. The recent ones (and Valhalla will be, im sure) are very good AAA open-world games in their own right, but they have lost what made the games so great in the first place. I wish they would just change the name away from AC and make a new brand for their open world RPGs.

Odyssey was just too massive for me... Sank god knows how many hours into it then just gave up.

Would love for this to be a tighter experience, not holding my breath though, especially considering the theme and the fact that England and Scandinavia will be present.

Cool theme though, Ragnar better turn up at some point.
I absolutely loved Odyssey, the map does give a "it's a way too massive" vibe but you should give it an other chance it's really worth it, the high level islands are great and have excellent side quests. The lockdown gave me the opportunity to replay the older AC and they aren't as good as Odyssey.

I played one of the recent ones but not sure which. Pretty sure it was set in Egypt but lasted about 2 hours. I loved the original few but just couldn’t get on with that one. Hopefully this is more like the originals but doesn’t sound like it.

I played the first AC and the Ezio games and then fell out of following the series after that until I was bought Syndicate second hand and hated it. I loved Odyssey personally, I'm a sucker for open world and I loved the setting, would have very happily played any number of expansions set across the Greek World (e.g - Southern Italy/Sicily, southern France, Turkey, Black Sea or into Alexander the Great's era to really widne the net). But also agree with those saying that it was AC in name only - it felt nothing like the Assassin's Creed games I played growing up.

I suspect Valhalla will basically be Odyssey in Anglo-Saxon England, but I don't really see how they can tie in the larger narrative and it just seems like a way to cash in on the ongoing Viking-themed hype (which I'm a bit sick of now). Having said that, I've always wanted an open-world game set in Medieval England so I'm sure I'll get it at some point for that reason only. I'm expecting a tutorial where you slaughter loads of monks at a beautifully rendered replica of Lindisfarne.

Started playing Origins, I agree with the repetitive criticisms, but the graphics and environment are amazing.

An entire mission got leaked today. For anyone who wants to see what it looks like.......

Thanks for sharing that, clearly looks like it needs a hell of a lot more polish to even get it up to par with Odyssey. Just from that video, I'm pretty disappointed, to be honest. I enjoyed the gameplay in Odyssey, particularly the combat abilities but I was hoping with the Viking theme they would add a bit more oomph to the combat and add some gore. I think the only way to add real satisfaction to the combat is to add dismemberment but it looks like a typical watered down Ubisoft experience.

Odyssey is a decent game, but it just has far too much filler and for someone like me who enjoys doing every side quest, every exploration task, it's too repetitive and just too much. The worlds Ubisoft makes are second to none and ill probably pick this up just to test out the PS5 on a new 4k Tv setup, but they don't know how to create a soul. Just decrease the world size by 20-30% and add in some more random events and that would be a massive start. Add some gore and you have a very solid RPG foundation, unfortunately, Ubisoft no longer really tries to innovate and are instead obsessed with just extracting some extra money post-launch.

Looks like incremental updates to the Odyssey, which was in turn incremental updates to the Origins, which was the last radical re-design of the game. The thing I like about AC is the bang for the buck, despite the repetitiveness, the story mode alone keeps me hooked for a good couple of months. Having said that, I'll likely get the game once the price drops.

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
Looks good to me. I've greatly enjoyed both Origins and Odyssey, so if this is more of the same in a setting I care more about, that's all I want. At some point I'll want a return to the traditional formula (or something like it), but not yet. There's a reason they changed it up, and that's because people were tired of the old formula, me included.

It will inevitably have a bit more of the old though simply bc of the return of the hidden blade. So I do expect stealth to be more of a focus again--especially compared to Odyssey where you were truly some kind of demigod later in the game.

P. S. Regarding world building and graphics being amazing : I agree Ubisoft did a particularly stunning job in the last two games and I am sure Valhalla will look amazing too - BUT, the other day I launched the Witcher 3 again and I must say that even without mods installed that game still blows those two out of the water IMHO. I was frankly amazed how good it still looks after not having touched it in a while. Having said that - they are obviously entirely different game engines and art styles.

Can’t really take anything away from that video as it’s got a horrible resolution. I personally couldn’t tell you if it was good or bad from watching that. I’ll wait until they will show some official gameplay and in-game mechanics.

Yeh I don't disagree with that, appeared to be running horribly. The person in control seemed terrible too which didn't help.

The leak is very disappointing.

Another copy from Odyssey with just changed HUD colors from yellow to green and very, very few new ideas. It's like Ubisoft never learn. They have to milk every formula that worked to death. Odyssey was a cash grab to benefit from success and this one seems to be another copy of the two.

It's honestly insane to call Odyssey a cash grab. You might not like it, but it's still a huge game. I also like how you can know that it has "very, very few new ideas" from a small leak.

It's like Ubisoft never learn.
They made a well-reviewed game that sold well.

Odyssey was a rip off from Origins in nearly every single thing. Same graphics, same HUD, same quests system and leveling up design, basically same gameplay with very few new ideas (that weren't even good). Hardly anything innovative. Just because it has a big world doesn't mean it wasn't basically Origins vol 2 and was released next year after Origins immediately to benefit from its success. It was similar to when they were releasing the same AC game every year with little to no changes before taking a break after the fans got bored eventually.

As for their mistakes, Ubisoft milked this series and their other series like Far Cry to death by same gameplay and open world formula pushed every year or 2 and when it seemed they're finally starting to learn from their mistakes through Origins, Watch Dogs 2 and Far Cry 5, by taking a break and trying something new in these 3 games, they reverted back to their milking strategy once the new formula they tried in their series succeeded. It's for me like they never learn. Once they find a successful formula they decide to milk it till the fans get bored at the end. Playing the same game every year or 2 ceases being fun at one point.

Finally I don't really know why you seem to get worked up. We're talking about video games so nothing really serious. I'm fan of the series, but Ubisoft as a gaming company has big problems with their policies in general imo, not just Assassin's Creed.

Odyssey was very average. Tried their best to make a Witcher 3 clone to be fair to them. But Witcher 3 without great writing and with bigness for the sake of it, is just empty and lifeless which describes my experience with the game. It had enough to keep me interested for a short while but quickly became tedious and uninteresting.

Another full boss fight was leaked from the game on YouTube. The fight was very boring but I'm not sure how Ubisoft are allowing all these leaks to come before any official gameplay trailer. All leaks have "work in progress" sentence in the bottom left corner so it must be coming from inside the company and from their development devices.

You kinda wonder if it has something to do with the investigations into sexual harassment at Ubisoft that also involved one of the Assassin's Creed s team leads. Perhaps it's someone s way of taking out their anger or something. Just speculating of course but all that stuff just came out publicly as well.

It’s nothing to do with sexual allegations.

Ubisoft stuff is always leaked early. They have far too many studios and staff working on the game that it’s surprised leak has not come early. Also they have a conference this week, so the leaks probably coming from that. Watchdog Legion was leaked last year before being announced with all the details about it.

I feel like we say this before every Ubisoft release - especially AC - and nothing changes. Bummer.
