Very good when he came on.

Would like to see how he fares playing with Pogba and Bruno from the off, would be very reassuring if he performed to a similar level to Matic

Should start against Villa. Give Matic a rest.

He is not a player like Matic. We do not have anyone to play in the position of Matic as well as he does. Fred brings a different aspect. I think against Chelsea if we are playing Matic, we need to drop a forward and play Fred and Pogba and Bruno in midfield. Against much weaker teams we may be able to drop Matic but not against top teams.

Fred did pretty well after coming on. It's bit unfair that he lost his starting position considering he was the carrying us all season but Matic Pogba and Bruno have settled partnership. But I do feel against smaller opposition, he can be real asset if Fred and Pogba can figure when to push forward

Really good cameo, he was in full hustling mode, never let Bournemouth settle in midfield and when he broke free and got on goal I was hoping he's smash it top corner for his confidence.

It depends on the opposition. Against lower teams when we are winning then Matic can be replaced but not against top teams.

If anything against top team his work rate & energy is needed more than Matic to win those 2nd ball to launch quick counter attack, he's been crucial in this aspect this season. I've said this before there are many ways to rotate Fred, Matic & Scott for that holding role. Three of them offer different dimension for the role and also have weakness against certain opposition.

Thought he came on and did very well today. Offered a lot of drive and energy would like to see him get more opportunities.

Lively cameo. The center is full of holes though when he moves to the touchline to help Shaw defend. He tend to press too much.

Anyway, he's not really someone who sits at midfield, his attacks and natural drive are too good.

He definitely offers quality on the ball. Whether he has the discipline to be the substitute for Matic is the question though.

Well people including me have been saying we should be looking at a Matic replacement. Maybe Fred can be that player

He's brilliant for that rotation role. He has taken steps in the last season and is now good enough.
Could easily play when Pogba and Bruno needs a rest.

Feel safe knowing Fred cake come in to support the duo. Let’s hope it’s him instead of McT when Matić needs a rest.

There's still plenty of games left in the season to work that out. Let's see how it goes. Even when he came on against Bournemouth, he put himself about, but I didn't think his defensive game was particularly solid.

Think we should explore giving him minutes as a DM bit by bit. That was the role Pep wanted him for. Could give us another dimension to Matic.

Really? I thought his defensive game was good. He also brought some urgency. Would like to see how he does against fresh legs though.

He was energetic, put himself about, won his duels and drove us on the front foot. It was a good cameo, but I thought he left gaps in the middle at times going after the ball. Obviously I have no problem with that when we are three-goals up, but we will see.

Kind of agree in sense he gets around hustles and is actually solid on the ball. I rate him as a player just don’t think he is a natural DM. He can’t read the game as well as Matic or a DM so I wouldn’t be that confident playing a top team with him playing that role. I feel he is more a backup to Pogba as a CM

When in form he’s better than Matic. He even improves Pogba’s game with his faster interplay. I’m hoping to see him start next game.

You're probably right about Fred not being a natural DM. Alongside McTominay I think they formed a good partnership and complimented each other, in as much as if one pushed forward, the other held position, and would do the DM work between them. They did look a bit rusty against Norwich though, but Fred did well yesterday. I wouldn't have a problem with both of them starting, but we also have to fit Pogba and Bruno in the team, which would leave us with only two up front. It could work, but not sure we will see that 4-3-3 system, with Bruno a sort of withdrawn striker.

Fred for me right now is the best ball winning center mid in the league. IMO in the big games he needs to play the most as he's so quick and all over attacking players. When you play against players like De Bruyne and Pulisic you need destroyers like Fred. I'd like to see more of Fred, Pogba, and Bruno together because I think if they can gel we may not have to sign a DM this summer.

Against the smaller teams Matic's superior passing and positional sense help us break teams down.

Start Fred against Villa. He's been consistently good for the entire season. And he was excellent again coming on against Bournemouth.

Matic is superb. But only if he is kept fresh. How many times this season do we need to burn him out before we learn our lesson. His legs started to look really shot about 20 minutes before he came off. Keep him out of the squad for Villa then bring him back in to start the game after.

So from the minutes he got in the villa game i could see that he was stressed to perform well and tried to hard. When he was good he didnt have the pressure that someone else is breathing down his neck. Maybe hes having trouble with the pressure that comes with a fit pogba and inform matic.

I thought he played quite well agaisnt Villa when he came on. I think he's looked better than McTomminay in his limited appearances. I would like to see Fred given a chance alongside Pogba and Bruno as I still think we can make that work in certain games.

He wasn't bad. Just felt like he didnt hit his passes as normal and somewhat afraid to make the risky ones. Maybe im over analyzing his performance. I agree with you. I hope he starts against Southampton. Matic has been amazing but he could be rested for 60 min and play last 30 to be fresh for the other games. Matic is needed for the chelsea game.

If this is what we can expect from Fred as a squad player we might as well sell him now. The run of being better than the abomination he was the season before can only carry him for so long. Shite.

Brings feck all to the table and has zero creativity and zero initiativ. It's time people realized he's not even at squad player level.
Wow that's harsh. Where were you in January-March?

On the other hand, there are people here who are saying he's better than Kante and there are people who agree with those people. He's somewhere in the middle of that and what you claim.

Probably our new left back for the rest of the league season.
