Very good substitute appearance. Made an important block, didn’t make defensive mistakes, tried to participate in attacks too

He has looked so much better playing on his natural side on the right. He doesn't need to cut back when overlapping in attack, and he looks more comfortable when having to go in for a tackle. There is a reason why RB are right footed and LB are left footed. It's one thing to fill in for Shaw once in a while, but I truly think we need another LB to cover for Shaw. It's just not anywhere near the top of our priorities right now...

He is tenacious and you could tell that he was ready to give some to Grealish the moment he started marking him. Good talent this kid.

He is a very good talent, but his mentality is top notch. That is what will help him a lot in the future.

He's playing it safe and discipline this time, less rash and forward daring.

Did Ole instructed him and McT to "play it safe"? BW play differently than usual.

Good job anyway. Nice to see him playing a more passing game.

Good cameo, but it seems Ole doesn't trust him to play from the start. Shaw, Maguire and Bruno start every game.
Only because we're on a good run of form at the moment and I think Ole doesn't want to risk losing the momentum in a confident and succeeding squad. I also think Shaw is seen as a player who benefits from more game time rather than less - Ole has said that there will be different approaches for different players. Shaw is more defensively experienced, and we can't afford to drop points at the moment, so that may figure in Ole's thinking. I doubt if it's a matter of trust though, at one point we were wondering if Shaw would get his place back, such was William's impact.

I think Ole will give him a start when he thinks Shaw needs a rest, and he's featured a lot in non-EPL matches, so maybe we'll see more of him in the EL.

Because currently, Shaw is the better option. I like Williams and think he’s got a great future in our squad but I don’t agree with anyone who thinks he’s already better than Shaw.

It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next couple of years and if he keeps pushing Shaw then it’s great to have that competition and also very useful to have that quality cover for both fullback positions.

He has saved us tens of millions on a backup fullback this summer and has made Shaw up his game.

Yea, I see Shaw as the better option too. It's good that Williams is able to play both sides though, so he is getting some valuable minutes.

Even in the cup games where we rotated a bit, Shaw, Maguire and Bruno has always been there. Derby, Norwich and the Europa League games.

Maybe you are right, but we will see how it pans out.

I don't think Williams should be an option at LB unless Shaw is hurt. He is right footed. He should be a RB. And he has looked so much better when played on the right. There is a reason you play right footers on the right and left footers on the left. For one, when Williams plays LB he always has to cut back after he beats his man. This usually results in him passing it back because it allows his man to get goal side of him again. That's not the case from the right. It is also a lot easier to tackle from the right when you are right footed. Look at how AWB likes to force guys to try and go wide and then slides in on them and wins the ball back. He couldn't do that from LB. Keep Williams on the right and look for another LB when we have sorted out our other positions that need strengthening...

Huge value he adds to our squad. Especially good when we play 3 at the back but is also really good cover for both fullbacks. We need to find a way to give him lots minutes next season to mature the tactical and defensive side of his game

Yep, I mentioned this numerous times before.

I wouldn't like to see our LB to cut in with his right when he has space to cross, we already have so many right footed attacking players and Williams will end up doing the same down our left flank which won't help balance our attack and being able to provide a much needed width.

I thought this was the more common opinion but either way I disagree. Firstly, I just think he is better on the left and has shown he can pick a clever pass from there when we're transitioning to attack. I also think his left-foot is decent enough to cross, and that eventually he'll give us better crosses with his left than Shaw. We haven't seen it as much in the first team, but as he develops I'd expect to see more of that if he continues at LB. We have Bissaka and Laird coming through on the right, I think he is a fine backup at LB and has the potential to become a great player. We can always just tell Greenwood to go wide left if we need an accurate left footed cross. Only problem is he wont be in the box to finish it. Decisions decisions.

Williams left foot is average for a professional footballer, to say he's potentially a better crosser with his left than Shaw is either overrating him or downplaying Shaw's crossing ability which I don't think he is as bad as most have made out.

I feel he will get plenty of opurtunities next season, covering either RB or LB, especially with the 5 sub rule staying next year.

I'm not saying he has an amazing left foot, I'm saying his ability to cross with it is yet to be shown at the professional level. I do think he can become more effective than Shaw in crossing playing as a LB, probably more so by using his right foot, but he might even rack up more assist with left-footed crosses than Shaw, that is all. That isn't to say he has a better left-foot than Shaw which would be a ridiculous claim. It's just that Shaw has delivered very few assists over the years, for some odd reason. Even great crosses never quite get the luck it deserves to be converted into goals when he is involved, it's always been like that with him but it's becoming a bit weird.

Looked really nasty that.

must have heard it on pitch level as they all went running over to him. Couldnt be worst timing with shaws injury too. Ugh.

I didn’t see the injury, was it a head clash?

If it was just a cut couldn’t he not of played on?

Again, I didn’t see how serious the clash was really and Williams doesn’t seem the type to leave the pitch at 90 mins trying to hold onto a win.

Pretty sure the doctor gave the sign to Solskjær he can’t carry on.

I think he’ll be grand by Thursday. With a big neoprene bandage. He definitely wasn’t concussed. Must have been a nasty gash though.
Dunno about that. Looked like he was a zombie walking off the pitch! Pretty sure you can still get concussion symptoms without being unconscious.

Would he have been on the back post if he was still on the pitch?

Shame for him and hopefully he's ok by Thursday

Hope he is fine. Probably just a minor concussion with a hard man scar to go with it. It'll be fine. Why did we not get another substitute in after his injury? Seems mental that we conceded a goal without being allowed another sub in, what happened?

We had used up all of our substitution slots.
