Contract
Jones - until 2023
Lingard - until 2021

Jones is staying, let's just accept it. Can't see him leaving permanently or for loan either, doubt any club is interested in getting a player who won't play.
Would be interesting to see how the club deals with Lingard's. But then it won't surprise me if his get extended just because..
God...I can picture that contract signing press release picture next to the mug woodward. Twenty twenty three for gods sake. Someone check Woodward's vitals.

Sammy McIlroy agreed with you on MUTV, there are legitimate differences of opinion on this. He got away with it, so I'm not getting too worked up.
Hah Hah! Yes, Sammy and me are 'old school'.... great result last night, performance as well as score.

This summer
- Lingard or Pereira
- Jones
- Alexis
- Smalling (Replacement needed)
- Rojo

Next summer
- Mata
- Matic (replacement needed)
- Lingard or Pereira

This summer and replacement from only the relegation teams
- Lingard or Pereira
Brooks (23 on the 8), got 7 goals and 5 assets last season more than both these players combined, been injured this season the Warrington lad is talented.
- Jones
Aké (25), left footed, soild in the air and not bad on the ground.
- Alexis
Sarr (22) right winger, got 5 goal and 4 assets in his first season.
Mane:
"He's rapid. I think defenders will struggle. Last time I was speaking to Robbo (Andy Robertson) I said 'Watford have a really good player. I will need to help you more otherwise Ismaila Sarr will kill you, because he is a good dribbler and very, very fast'.
- Smalling (Replacement needed)
Godfrey (22) watched him a couple of times - reminds me of Rio likes to bring the ball out and plays out from the back
- Rojo
Buendía (23) not bad this season, last season in the championship he was on fire with 8 goals and 12 assets. This season 7 assets, more than Jesse

Just had to come to the deadwood thread to put on the record the twinge of pain I feel every time I see the phrase 'Lingard, Pereira and Mata', which has popped up a fair amount recently always in the heaviest pejorative. It only hurts cause it's true, obviously, but it's so unfair for Mata who was a great player before we bought him and has been in my opinion shafted by the shitty circumstances at the club in his prime years to be roped in with lost causes like Lingard and Pereira.

I think Mata being used as a right winger hasnt helped him either, for so long it seems. I think Mata has produced some great moments with us (as part of a right side of a three drifting in or behind the striker). But I think its time for him.

Jones, Mata, Pereira, Lingard should go (though I wouldnt be surprised if Pereira got another year if his wages are low).
And Rojo, Sanchez need to completely go.

And i have no idea whats happening with TFM and Tuanzebe. Reckon latter gets another chance. TFM might go though.

I agree, I've no problem with Mata being spoken of as a man coming to end of his usefulness at United but when I see that particular list of three players I do want to insert the caveat that as footballers Lingard and Pereira aren't fit to lace Mata's boots. As for the rest there's no doubt we've more deadwood to chop.

Get rid of Pereira, Mata, Lingard, Jones and Rojo. What's the point playing any of these players if they aren't good enough. I'd rather be bringing on Garner and Chong on when we're 3-0 up than players who aren't up to it.

We are finally seeing less of our deadwoods getting involved since the restart, those that started in the FA cup against Norwich had been frozen out since then, or given 10 mins subs appearances, clearly Ole doesn't trust them.

Players to be sold this summer

Lingard
Andreas
Jones
Dalot
Mata
Smalling
Sanchez
Rojo

Around £1m a week wages plus potentially £60m transfer fees

Don't think Dalot and Andreas will be sold. Andreas is still regularly in the squad and Dalot would benefit from a loan IMO.

Agreed he was a great player. But I didn't see any of that great player again after he left Chelsea. If I was him I must really hate Mourinho. I still remember the Mata at Chelsea we faced and the DDG save against his free kick.

Dalot has it all to do to stay. Gets injured loads and the small issue of a 50m right back ahead of him. Behind Williams too who came on yesterday at right back.

I think we saw flashes, but he was misused in a team and a club that couldn't get the best out of him. Lingard and Andreas can rightly point to playing at the same time in United's history when it was tough to develop in the right way, but then again when United have the bit between their teeth looking to challenge for honours those two have no business making matchday squads, let alone starting XIs. Prime Mata would certainly have a role to play now, so for that reason I find it a shame seeing him lumped in with those two.

Fair enough I agree.

Sanchez will return after this season. Doubtful Inter will want to buy him for the price United would want

I think United would take 10-15M for Sanchez honestly, getting him off the wage books over a season would mitigate other costs.

Its Sanchez taking a pay-cut honestly that he has to agree with, I see inter taking him if he could agree to a wage cut.

United didn't really negotiate for Rooney leaving either they let him leave for a minimal fee, it wasn't about the transfer fee but about the wages.

Sanchez didn't really cost a lot of money (31M) but Mhki was part of the deal, selling Sanchez for 10-15M is hardly a big loss.

If for some reason he ends up back here, will he even get any game time with the form our strikers are on ?

Happy days if we get rid of all those.
Wouldnt miss one of them and even if they all left for free the savings on wages would be pretty big.

With not missing i mean that they arent playing for the club (Smalling, Sanchez + Rojo), injured (Jones) or not offering anything anyway (Lingard + Dalot).

Smalling could stay if it was up to me but getting rid of the others and receiving some money would be great business.

Hard to believe.
He can be a match winner on his day and he's worth a punt, a player that genuinely can win you 'smash and grab' type games, I can see why a mid-table side would want him.

He's just noticeably a few tiers below what a footballing superpower wants.

Smalling and Lingard are the 2 players that will fetch the biggest prices, Sanchez will be the third.

The good old days of Everton, Sunderland and other clubs that would sign our leftovers just because of having played for us a season is long gone I fear. Maybe if Moyes keep West Ham up and he continues in the job, he and their owners might be stupid enough... I think we just have different opinions regarding Lingard's ability as a player.

Really don't get the obsession with mass clear-outs. Some of these players are not good enough, but the likes of Dalot, Mata, and even Jones and Rojo are still useful squad players. Not every player can be first team quality, nor should they be.

I've said this about 20 different times in various threads but in (Steve) Brucey we trust. If that takeover does happen then I'd be hedging my bets on him signing at least one of our players

Jones and Rojo are definitely not useful that's I'm sure about.

Can see a case for the other 2 but I'll assume we'll replace some of them. Selling Dalot means we have no backup in RB so we'll either buy a better backup (and let's be honest Dalot is just awful) or promote a good youngster.

Jones and Rojo useful squad players?

Well they need to be fit for starters. Which neither have shown in their time with us. How many chances do you want to give Jones? He’s been here 9 years and barely stayed fit.

Honestly with Jones I'm more sceptical that we'll ever find a buyer honestly, will likely just need to wait till his contract expires.

No one in their right mind would buy Jones let alone offer to pay him a wage. He can never show up for work.

I like Lindelof but I would much prefer Smalling be in our team. I still think he is a very good defender.

Dalot, if he is not kicking up a fuss, I don't see why we should sell him. He is decent and good cover for both full back positions (can't just have Williams)

Agreed ... I think he's become (or became) a "bad apple" and anything we can get for him to prevent his return should be considered good business

It is worrying that we still have so much deadwood on our books. The impact on the wage bill cannot be underestimated.

Don't know how much we will be able to ship out in this transfer window - but we really need to get that done.

Sanchez, Rojo, Smalling, Periera, Lingard, Jones, Mata are just not close to being good enough anymore. Collectively they'll be between 1.5-2 million of weekly wages.

Or he could be a "star" in the Championship with a promotion hopeful?

Smalling is not getting any younger and seems to be enjoying the slower pace in Italy but more importantly first team regular play. It's ironic because he's probably still better than what we have currently to replace either Maguire or Lindelof when they need a break.
Maybe at the right club Lingard can find his World Cup level of performance ... but would you splash much cash for that "maybe"?

Smalling has been good for us in the past. As he got older he was frequently guilty of grabbing and holding in the box. He was lucky to get away with that so often. In the age of VAR I worry that he would be a liability - sending the opposition to the spot. I have not been watching his progress in Italy to know whether the old dog has been able to learn new tricks.

Sell:
Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Fred, Pereira, Lingard, Sanchez

Keep:
- Mata - For his big game experience/positive example to all the youngsters
- Bailly - Better than the 3 I want gone
- James - Still young, has time to learn
- Dalot - Was really good when he first joined, has potential. Give him another season.

Bring In:
- Chilwell - So tired of Shaw showing glimpses of talent every year but never maintaining it.
- A fast centre back next to Maguire
- A backup for Pogba, McTominay can be back up for Matic
- Sancho
- A back up for Fernandes
- A young left sided attacker as Rashfords backup.

Part of me wants a proper number 9 to replace Martial but I don't think that's important. He's banging in the goals at the moment plus, if the 4 or 5 players behind him keep up their form, we'll get goals from all over the place.

I know even after sales, all of those players coming in is almost impossible but I think with though changes, even if it takes 2 transfer windows, then we are ready to challenge for the top. Thoughts?

Completely agree. The players he had to play with, the managers at times, just not the best of circumstances. He was still good though, just not world class.
