I think his biggest problems are on field tactics. I don't think his coaching staff is that good. Everyone can see that on our corners. If the coaching staff can't see it then they are not good.
I really don't understand why we occasionally don't take near post corners or far post to centre or far post to near post?
We have decent headers of the ball.

Ole of all people should know the importance of the near post flick. Didn't he get the gig at United because of a near post flick from a corner?

Maybe corners was not top of the list of things to work on? Set pieces sure is top of the list at Burnley and the likes, but at a club like United might it not be to work on what happens in open play?

Don't tell me all the important goals we scored at corners during the time of SAF was not important?
We won a CL Final due to corners. Two goals scored in the final. We beat Sheffield Wednesday on our way to our first league trophy under saf due to a corner. We have won so many important matches under Fergie due to corners. Not to mention the Cantona FA Cup goal against Liverpool. Set pieces have been our part and parcel of our game always.
Ole became famous because of a near post flick from a Beckham corner.

Yes, corners are easy when you have Beckham in the team. They werent so easy when had Giggsy hitting the first man on a consistent basis in his later years.

.
Now we have Bruno who can hit them anywhere so it should not be a problem anymore.

This is also a problem that Fred got caught out with last season. It seems it's an instruction but our players seem to lack awareness especially in the midfield. I'm comfortable with Maguire bringing the ball into play it's one of his useful strengths. Matic is too slow on the half turn and Bruno isn't conservative enough to potentially not lose possession.

Ole needs to give the team a structure when building from the back under pressure.
Ole would have to be an idiot to have the team playing out from the back under pressure without some kind of structure. If Graham Potter does it at Brighton then surely Solskjaer is competent enough to have put something in place.

At this point we should stick with him considering how well he is doing. But if a Klopp or Pep level manager comes along we need to be ruthless and upgrade.
pep took over a world class team with their owners giving him anything he wants(they where setting it all up for him a year or two before he arrived).he should have won the CL already with the tools he has at his disposal.

ole took over a club with moral at rock bottom and has turned it around in under 2 years.(and I know there is still work to do plus oles in game management needs to improve)

It would be interesting to see the outcome if we gave pep the squad ole took over along with the glazers/Woodward and ole the squad pep took over along with his blank cheque book.

as much as I hate to say it Klopp deserves all the credit he gets as he’s done a top job without a sugar daddy.

Ole's record after 57 league games ain't so bad at all.

Added in Jose's first Chelsea stint and Fergie's opening 57 Premier league games from 92 forward as well to measure how he is doing.

A tonne of variables of course included but goes to show Ole really isn't doing as bad as some try make out.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
Getting the pts in total or even win rate aren't the problems.
Nor does the attacking entertaining philosophy, tactical ability overall and player management.

Overall, Ole fits us the most out of the four.

It's the structure and ideas vs organised teams when they low block or high press (coaching for that is not good enough).
That's the only single problem left - easy solution is to get a new top quality attacking coach and/or a coach that knows how to instill structure especially when we're building-up from the back and keeping possession against high press teams.
Done.

Man, just stop.

Liverpool, the run away league leaders struggled to beat Palace away in November for god sake!

They too needed a late winner in Firmino in the 85th min!

https://www.sofascore.com/crystal-palace-liverpool/hsU (link for some reason isn't working, so here is another https://www.premierleague.com/match/46729)

Now compare it to our game on Thurs

https://www.sofascore.com/crystal-palace-manchester-united/hK

  • We had the same possession
  • We created more chances (5 shots more)
  • We had 1 more shot on target
  • We kept them at bay more by conceding fewer shots than Liverpool (16 v 13)
  • We had more passes overall & we completed more of our passing (more accurate)
  • We dribbled at their back line 2 and a half times more than their attackers did (13 v 33)

Please stop posting inaccurate info when it is readily available for all people to analyze.

I just saw his interview during the lock down I think it was.
Now I understand him a bit more. He mentioned the ethos of the club and Stam and Ronny in defense and 2 v 2.
So he knows what is happening in our defense. The change in Martial and Rashford becoming less selfish. Why he keeps subbing Greenwood.
Why he keeps playing Lindelof instead of Bailly.
My gut feeling is that he is going to get a quick and strong cb or two so our CBs can play 2 v 2 against the opposition strikers.
I still think he should sort out our corners.

I have changed my mind and I think we should for sure let him have a chance next season no matter what happens this season whether we make it to the CL or not.

We have been shit on corners since we had Vidic, why is this all of a sudden mentioned several times the last couple days?

Is the raised pitch at Old Trafford a problem? Bruno’s corners are much better away from home, at OT he seems to struggle with beating the first man.

Because that's our biggest weakness now. Our defenders need to contribute to our scoring. Since Vidic left we have not won the PL or the CL. We have tall players who could score from corners if the right variations were used.

Really? We have Maguire WIN 75% of HIS headers on corners last game, we win 2-0, and this is what you are crying about? Why not focus on our strengths? Or is that to positive for you?

This is an interesting point. Against Southampton I remember saying in the match thread that his corners have reverted to United type of always hitting the first man. Against Palace his corners were spot on.

The slope at OT is stupid and dangerous either way.

Nobody is disputing the last 19 games or so, but the season started in 2019 and ends in 2020. The damage was done last year and we are for example not even close to matching Mourinho’s first season, even with a much better team in place. Goals? We’ll end up right around the same amount of goals scored, although I’ll stop comparing apples and oranges right away. Last year, great start and woeful finish - where is the consistency when things are going worse? Our lowest level needs to be much higher than it is, Solskjær doesn’t seem to manage this scenario very well.

I have enjoyed watching United since the re-start and we have very good players, but is Solskjær really the one to guide this pool of talent the next few years? My answer is big no, we could do so much better with a professional manager. Right now I am seeing great players beating lesser players because they are... much better, but I see few signs of a gameplan and attacking patters that’s there because of the manager. The Soton-game showed us exactly that, when plan A goes to shit and we have tired players, there was no shock effect from the manager to correct standings.

So what about all the big wins against the best teams in the league with makeshift teams?

Lesser players against better players and all that

Not being funny.. But the actual Jose story is so repetitive it’s boring. He came in won trophies got us to finals and them imploded. We went from a team of softies to the second best team in the league playing crap football. I don’t see where he actually failed. We failed him by not giving him his players (thank god) and not seeing the signs of when the right time to let him go was. Champs league Seville. Spurs are going to do the exact same thing and it’s going to be a glorious watch.

Ole has done an amazing job or bringing back the roots which was ripped out the day Moyes came in but I feel (strong opinion) the longer we let this guy stick this out the longer his level of management calibure is going to ruin the chances of making this current crop become Champions. So I see no problem in giving him another year if he gets up Champs qualification. But for the love of god don’t extend his contract.
What makes him fail is that his approach & man management. Our aim is future success which is to win lot of major trophies not to win EFL Cup & Europa League for 1 season only. It's so easy to say that we didn't give him his players but in reality he wasted our money on deadwood which fed up the board.

We gave him Lindelof & Bailly which are 2 centre back and he still wants more. We gave him Mkhy and he wanted to replace him. We gave him Sanchez and the player end up as deadwood (imagine if we let him pay Perisic for 55m, worse). We gave him Pogba and he had clash with the player.

To put it simple. We gave him what he wanted but he failed to use the money wisely, players that he signed weren't good enough so he wanted more. Now we end up trying to sell his signings or find replacements for them.

That wasn’t my point or what I was getting at. Those Mourinho points sounds amazing though. Imagine the pain of writing that same thing at that time and been shut down as stupid.

Anyway.. you can’t just jump to the title and he come i with a very impressive second season, which was actually an absolute replicate of his previous seconds season success. Only difference is Pep upped the anti and he knew he couldn’t take us any further.

I never say he should win the title in his 2nd season. I was talking about his man management & his approach are failure. Finishing 2nd is nothing if the end result is that he's destroying the club. If you don't know what it means, let me give you a good example of Klopp.

Klopp knew what's the problem in Liverpool team & he knew what he needed to buy in transfer window to build a team that can win major trophies. He used the money wisely, rarely you see his signings are wrong, he was able to improve his players & develop the young ones. His approach & man management were spot on, that's why he won CL & PL.

Mourinho on the other hand. He failed to identify United's problem. It took him to his 3rd summer window to finally realise that he needs a leadership & experienced centre back first before signing attackers. He was given lot of money but he wasted them on players that end of the day not good enough for his standard & united's standard and now we are trying to sell or replace most of his signings.

Klopp's Liverpool & Mourinho's United man management and approach was like day & night.

How many has he scored from corners for United? Winning headers is not enough. Scoring is good enough.

He has the ability to score from headers. His number before he joined us was good. Hopefully only matters of time.

This is actually annoying. Thank you for explaining the manager Mourinho is. If anything it just proves blind hindsight, probably on your behalf to, on the simple fact you are explaining to me what Mourinho does like we didn’t see it before and didn’t witness it first hand at our club even though a lot of us was warned!

Now back to what I actually said. Jose Mourinho was successful in achieving what Jose Mourinho does. I repeat.. he turned a club that lost it’s fear factor and came in and made England hate us again. He brought a Europa league in his first season and turned a team that finished 6th into the second best team in England. Was it pretty? No. Was his previous Chelsea team pretty? No. Did he fall short in Europe with dreadful negative tactics? Yes. Did he get technically done over with a title winning Chelsea against PSG too? Yes.

At the end of the day we got what we paid for. You telling me he blew money, made the environment toxic and left the next manager with a depleted dressing room is not new to anyone who’s followed Mourinho except for you apparently.

If United had gave him Perisic like he asked for we might have been a lot closer to City. I mean Perisic would have provided Lukaku with an extra 10 goals. So let’s stop pretending we didn’t get what we asked for. City was just too good and Jose like certain tools to work. Ed didn’t provide him with that remember? I’m sure there’s millions of post with that view. Even though I didn’t agree as he was backed.

Now let’s just hope hindsight doesn’t bite us in the backside again with Ole as I’m fed up of being right about these poor misjudgments with who you allow to lead us back to the top.

Pep and Zidanne didn't has a club than the reseve team on their CV when appointed. Jose had one of the best CV when appointed.

Managers should be evaluated based on how they're doing not their CV. Your boss evaluate your performance based on how do you do at your job recently or your CV ?
Managers and players are evaluated based on their entire careers. Their recent past is prioritised but you can't ignore everything before the last few months. If you judge DDG based on recent performances, we'd be demanding he be sold asap but we all know how good he can be so he's been shown far more patience. Based on this season, City should sack Guardiola but they'd be idiots to do it.

If you lot brought this CV stuff before the appointment of Ole it's fine. But bringing it now is just clueless and stupid af.
I thought it before his appointment, when I heard his appointment and still think it now.

And Poch, what has he won so far? Tell me how he has done better than Ole?

Poch was sacked in his last job. Ole didn't. Based on your logic of CV, doesn't this make Ole better than Poch?
No it doesn't. Again, you're ignoring everything past a certain point because it's inconvenient. Poch took Spurs further than they'd been in years and did the same with Southampton.

Because we’re a hugely improved team in what we were beforehand. Open your eyes and watch a game.
We've hugely improved since Bruno came and because of that we might be able to avoid our worst ever PL finish (Moyes got 64 points, we have 62). I have opened my eyes, I just have a memory that goes back beyond a few months.

Knee jerk is effectively calling for his head after one minor setback, considering the run we are currently on. And generally yes you should shut up after 10 games unbeaten.
I doubted his qualifications to be our manager when he was appointed and have ever since. Just because we had a setback, doesn't make it more or less true regardless of how much the timing annoys you.

We had a great unbeaten streak under Mourinho. But anyone who suspected he would drag the team down were correct. Using your logic, anyone who remembered what he did in previous jobs should have shut up. Using my logic, they should have remembered what he did in previous jobs and that he may become more and more negative and the team would decline in the third year as happened at Chelsea. Which actually happened?

I mean in-vogue as in some trophyless wonder who’s career highlight in the league was losing a two-horse race to Leicester.
As opposed to OGS whose career highlight as a manager is what exactly? Several good games that have taken us to slightly less behind a worse version of the same Leicester and a much worse Chelsea with a manager with one season's experience, down their best player for several seasons and a transfer ban? Just because something happened before the last few months doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

How many times you need to be told about this, the club is aiming to win major trophies for long term not trying to win one league trophy or get a 2nd place for short term! Let me repeat this again, not a short term! He tried to waste big money to sign short term players, he failed to identify what the squad needs, gave us deadwood & ruined other players development. Winning Europa League has deluded your view on him, he knew that he couldn't get us top 4. And from the moment in round 16 that he already knew it was his best chance to get CL spot when you look at the quality of the other teams.

Chelsea won the league under Mourinho in 14/15 because he built a Chelsea winning team not a 2nd place team and not for short term. Conte was able to win it in 16/17 with almost the same squad basically which reflects to how good that 14/15 team. A completely 2 different scenario, the team that he built in 14/15 could win PL for 3 seasons. While the United team he built was only good enough to achieve 2nd place for one season only.

That's just your hypothesis. You are making Perisic is like a top class player who can provide 15 plus assists when clearly he has never even reach a 10 assists in a season. Just like all the deadwoods he signed, Perisic is just one of those.

For three summer windows, he has spent £365m for transfer fees (not even include the adds on yet) with total net spent around £290m! While Klopp, for three summer windows he has spent £370m and his total net spent of £75m. Even if you ignored Klopp's net spent. There is not much difference of the money they spent on players and Klopp won the major trophies. Mourinho has no excuse to say that he wasn't backed!!

No idea but I've always found it weird. You have to run up a hill to take a corner

Yes we are building a long term team which is why us and Jose never worked. We didn’t see value in Perisic because of his age Jose seen a player that was going to take us to a league. Like it’s really not very complex to understand. I feel like your just being ignorant now.

Who are the deadwoods? Was they deadwoods when they signed? Was you against Mikh when he first came in? You probably backed him as relevant as you do Harry Maguire now! Was Zlatan not your man? Did you want Martial upfront? Full of liars and false prophets this place. It’s funny

Do they make it flat for the well taken corners from the opposing team? There’s enough space to take a corner unless you need a 6 yard run up.

People knew Mourinho would drag the team down because of what he said in public, the players we bought, and the way we played. That was clear as day to most of us, as is what is happening with the club now.

Even Solskjær has won a trophy ;)

Yes we are building a long term team which is why us and Jose never worked. We didn’t see value in Perisic because of his age Jose seen a player that was going to take us to a league. Like it’s really not very complex to understand. I feel like your just being ignorant now.

Who are the deadwoods? Was they deadwoods when they signed? Was you against Mikh when he first came in? You probably backed him as relevant as you do Harry Maguire now! Was Zlatan not your man? Did you want Martial upfront? Full of liars and false prophets this place. It’s funny
Mourinho was willing to sacrifice the future of Man United to win himself a title short-term. OGS was willing to sacrifice his future, to make United a better team in the long run. That is the difference between the 2 managers, and why I find it really hard to defend Mourinho.

Did Mourinho buy deadwood ? No - he just turned players into it. He didn't like a 22-23 year old Shaw fair enough - so he played a 32-33 year old Young. He didn't want a 22-23 year old Martial so he wanted a 30 year old Perisic. OGS got Shaw to look like a very good footballer, and Martial even better.

And you know what ? If Mkhitaryan still was at the club - and wanted to be part of United, I am certain OGS would get a lot more out of him than Mourinho did.

No idea but I've always found it weird. You have to run up a hill to take a corner
When I visited Old Trafford last year I noticed the elevation of the pitch rather than the slopes. The tour guide said that the elevation brings the pitch ‘closer’ to the audience for a better viewing experience.

However I also heard that the pitch was raised to avoid consuming too much water when there was bad weather. Utd pitch was one of the worst in the league for many years

How many has he scored from corners for United? Winning headers is not enough. Scoring is good enough.
Why is this relevant to Ole's performance? This is the problem, people's expectations are ridiculous. Do people actually think part of his job is to teach Maguire how to head it in from 12 yards out?

I see posts after games we've won comfortably complaining that we're never able to fully dominate for a full 90 minutes. Guess what? We're playing against premier league football teams, of course the game is going to have ebbs and flows! It's not the Scottish Premiership, it's the toughest league in the world and we're still a young developing side.

The 99 side drew more games than we will this season. The 01/02 side lost more games, it's football!

For three summer windows, Mourinho has spent around £365m for transfer fees (not even include the adds on yet), while Klopp, for three summer windows he has spent around £370m. So let that sinking to your mind, there is no lie but fact okay. One failed while the other one succeeded. If those Mourinho signings weren't deadwood, people wouldn't need to have discussion to replace them. And if you are still insisting they aren't deadwood then Mourinho has no excuse not to be able to win at least one of CL or PL with those players he signed for 360m plus. It's not very complicated to see the difference between failure & succeed.

Poll edited. One of the previous options were outdated.
Why not a ‘Decide at the end of the season’ option? Which is where I stand on, but because the option does not exist I had to vote ‘to keep Ole’.

I believe that having a clear view of his work can be done only when the season is finished. Still not clear if there has been an amazing improvement, or it is another purple patch.

I don’t give a crap what Klopp spent. Pep won a title spending crazy like Mourinho. Your argument is stupid you sound like the Opps. Have that same energy when we continue to spend and someone tells us we brought the title.
