Not really, just stating facts - 3rd v 5th - as the saying goes, read the newspaper ;-). If we'd beaten Soton, we'd be above Chelsea.
They’re both facts. One just lacks context and makes it seem like the disparity is greater than it is.

Really? so should we say that Utd are only 1 place behind Chelsea?. Two places is two places. At the end of the season it doesn't matter if you win the league ny 1 point or even on goal difference, you are still the best club in the league.

We didn't field our best team, wasn't about having a good day or not. We played our strongest 11 with the exception of Matic against Palace and chose to rest players for the FA Cup semis. Being already down 2-0 before subbing on our best players was too late. We simply didn't prioritize the cup, which I disagree with.
When we beat Chelsea 2-0, 9 of the players who played then, played on Sunday's defeat. 7 starters from Sunday played when we beat them in the cup match. There is no fixed line up that can play Chelsea, based off our results this season. It was an off day but also we played out of form players

Because you’re talking about them being ahead of us and exaggerating the difference. It’s one point. Being one point ahead with two games to go doesn’t make you anything.

You are not the only one but it feels like we are in the minority around here.

I can't understand that mentality myself , 5 mins after the game people were saying they were not bothered by the result.

If it ever gets that way for me where 5 minutes after losing a cup semi final against a big rival I am not bothered by the result then that is the day I stop following football and Utd as I will know then that my heart is not in it anymore.
I totally agree with you.

I would go further and say that if you don't feel the pain of a defeat you don't know where you have to come back from to be winners next time.

I only fully recovered from Chelsea losing the 1972 League Cup final to Stoke when we won the 1997 FA Cup.

I feel like I'm the only one still gutted about this result. I really wanted to win the FA Cup :(
I am peeved about the result and wanted the trophy. CL and a trophy would be a great season.

It’s the sad state of the game really, that 4th place in the league is more important than winning the FA Cup.

Once upon a time we would criticise clubs who deprioritised trophies over league places, funny that we’re doing exactly that now.
Indeed. Its apparently "big picture thinking" . Once you play in the CL you have made it financially and United all about money. Money over silverware. Its funny because the biggest named players we signed were when we were in the Europa (Zlatan, Pogba, Miki and Bruno) but we must sacrifice one for the other, even a manager who hasn't won anything at this level, must forego his biggest chance at a trophy, even though nothing is certain (that we will qualify or we could not do both). It's a sad state of affairs indeed. Maybe the pay out in the FA Cup needs to increase or the mentality of the board. Maybe FA Cup to offer CL football!

We fielded a weaker team than the one vs Palace, yes there isn't a fixed line up that guarantees victory or defeat but considering the form of the rested players it's simple math that we didn't prioritize the match.

The PL doesn't lie - if we finish above them, that will have been a great effort - back end loaded - but as of today it's 3rd v 5th..

If they're players are so inferior, how come they out played us in the SF? Also, look at their 2nd eleven v ours v ours and ask yourself which is the strongest?

I don't understand why Chelsea is so under rated on here, it's a top club that performs consistently well in the PL.
Yes they outplayed us in the first half of the semi final and they had a massive advantage due to two extra days of rest. We beat them three times this season already remember. I agree with you they are a top team in the league. The standings don’t lie, but compared to Liverpool, City and prime Chelsea in the Lampard/Terry era, they are average and that’s the standard they aim for. Which players in their squad would you suggest to start most games for United?

it’s a fact you have beaten us 3 times this season to our once.

Its also a fact that over the 4 games the balance of play and being the better team would not be United. Sure that means nothing in the end but unless you win trophies a season is totally meaningless in the end.

you guys might be frustrated with the result in the cup but that’s nothing compared to our very first game. Nothing will fix that level of frustration. To be so comprehensively beaten and yet be the far superior team is unlike anything I’ve witnessed.

You're not listening to me. It's not who would start, it is whose bench is the stronger. Who would you rather have coming on Mata or Ross Barkley?

Results like that are far from uncommon. If you’d watched Arsenal’s two games before last night you’d have seen two more examples.

And you weren’t all that much better than United. You had 53% possession and 18 shots to our 11 (7 vs 5 on target) We scored early, then picked you off on the counter, despite not playing very well for most of the game. That happens. It was hardly a grave footballing injustice.

You weren't far superior team, it was just that ManUtd were not as good as 4-0 result but Chelsea were not better. xG which shows quality of chances shows our xG was 2.17 compared to 1.05 for Chelsea.

Sir Reginald, I thought at the time that the 4-0 was a result of naeivety - we are not the best team in the country, but we are top drawer at moving quickly and giving our front players opportunities on the break is dangerous. They'll hammer anyone who does this, all day.

For what it's worth, I see improvements in your team play and believe Frank is learning quickly - I've always considered him a good guy, very bright and knows the game.

Next season will be interesting, you'll be challengers, I'm sure, so will we, City will destroy mid and lower level teams (but will they be good enough at the back), Liverpool performed very consistently, but can they maintain that with a relatively small squad etc. etc.

It looks like being an interesting competition, just let's hope it will be played in full stadia.

The one that still p!sses me off was the 6-1 loss to City at OT, that was aflattering scoreline.

Of those two I would say neither. Yes I know you said their squad is stronger overall and I agree they have a better depth in their squad right now due to our current rebuilding. Anyway, Romero, Bailly, Fred, McTominay and Ighalo could easily get some game time in this Chelsea team. Maybe James too with his pre christmas form.

After what I saw last night, I'm not sure about that.
