He won't get sacked whatever happens this season, but personally, if he fails to achieve a draw against Leicester, I'd sack him twice.

good to see you Ole outs, missed you these last several months.
I was here all along, just as I was with Lukaku out after his first season and most were agreeing the opposite. Not a competition about being right, but there should be room to voice valid concerns even when things are looking better. My point is that our players are too good to not finish in the top 4, it’s not a bloody achievement at all. The chase was possible only because we played so badly last season. Buying Bruno was great, but he left it too late... only James in during the summer? Hopeless decision. We are a club that wants to win the league, next season people will see that it will never happen with OGS. Perhaps nobody will against Pep and Klopp though, so maybe there’s no point either way.

Poch took an unfancied Spurs side to the Champions League final and got the into the top 4 regularly, Spurs got rid and they will miss out this year, but let's compare the Norwegian league to the Champions League.
Last time I checked you don’t get a prize for runners up or top 4.

Spurs were not unfancied the year they came 3rd in the league behind Leicester and Arsenal. They were favourites to win the title in the 2nd half of the season then capitulated badly and finished 3rd.

Ole took over a very tough job at United. The squad was aging, one of the oldest in the league, full of dead wood, had the worst fitness in the league, played awfully defensive football and had players with terrible attitudes at the club.

Most of the above has been removed whilst giving academy players more chances and he hasn’t even had 2 full seasons.

Poch’s first season he finished 5th. This is Ole’s first full season where we could either finish 3rd or 5th on the final day of the season, unfair to judge him on last season as he joined in mid December when the club had only 26 points from 17 games with 0 GD.

Poch got Spurs to a CL final after 5 years and also won 0 trophies in 5 years. But yeah judge a manager who had 5 years to bring success and brought none vs a manager who is in his first full season.

 We get to third and the knives are out

I'm baffled no big clubs are scouting the caf though, since we apparently have an abundance of top class managers here
Endless comments about 'tactics' and 'in game management' from a bunch of people who (a) don't really understand tactics and (b) have no inside knowledge about any of the squad, and their current condition/confidence/frame of mind. Thats not an arrogant view, I include myself and everyone else here in that group.

If we get the players we’re being heavily linked with like Sancho, VDB, Grealish and a good CB... three of those options at best, then OGS has no hiding place anymore. It will be his team, his fitness regimes and his responsibility. He cannot hide behind Jose Mourinho regime, toxic environment, players not suited to him at that point.

It will be his responsibility if we don’t play well and importantly don’t get results. He cannot have that first half of this current season next season with those proposed players.

And I sincerely hope he can make it work. I think everyone would want that, unless OGS has done something personal to you outside of football like shag your wife or something... at the same time, have you ever heard of someone who has spent a decade at the level of Norwegian football then went straight to the top end and been a success?

Ole sounds like his doing a perfect Tim Sheerwood job. Atleast he can probably manager Villa once he’s sacked.

It's hard to feel any confidence in winning things with him when we're stumbling to get top 4.

Is he a manager that we can challenge the league with? I think it's obvious now he isn't.

If Naglesmann would move in the summer, I'd get him in.

I personally think his transfer strategy has been vindicated. Our defence and attack are the best they have been in years... even allowing for 8 goals that de gea lets in. Bruno signed too late... is basically saying Ole made the right call but the club couldn't deliver for him. Hard to imagine Ole said in the summer... 'the money is too much Ed'. On the other hand, seems to have vetoed a move for Dybala (very unpopular at the time) and eventually signed Bruno who looks like he was worth waiting for. Hard for me to find fault with the recruitment in 2 windows we have had personally

Agree that, if city or liverpool get 100 pts next season we arent winning the league, neither is Jose or Arteta. This united team is improving but not yet the greatest ever league side... not sure thats a sackable offence

I am sure he won't move this summer, he already rejected any sort of potential move for this summer. Maybe next year or in 2 years.

What if he gets the club finishing 3rd on Sunday? Look how long it took Klopp to win the title, Poch got 5 years and won nothing. It is unfair to compare Ole to these scenario’s when they had so much more time. The squad was in a terrible state when he arrived and is on the right track. Regardless or league finish, Ole has done a good job if you look at everything he has done since he came in. Everything can’t be done in 20 months.

Its really hard to argue that Ole has ever had a hiding place. Lost his first game in 20 at the weekend and all the old criticisms have reappeared.

Hipster choice and what has he achieved that says he should be hired over Ole.

His last 3 league finished have been3rd, 9th and 3rd. He got Hoffenheim 3rd which is remarkable but the next season they showed their true level, then finishing 3rd with the third best team in Germany where they have spent a fortune is not enough to warrant giving him the job. We have has successful managers in LVG and Mourinho and look how that ended.

I agree on the depth.

But after Southampton Ole got crucified for changing the midfield too early, so he can't win.
This is exactly what I am saying. No two matches are the same. Each match is different and it's where his lack of game management is showing. A blind man can see that Pogba was not producing anything today.

A blind man could also see that when a managers team wins everything is great. When it doesn't he did everything wrong

This type of logic is so stupid.

Because 2 successful managers failed before, we should never hire a successful manager in the future?

We should never buy players again either since we've had some shocking buys.

I'd want Nagelsmann, because he is a far more progressive manager than Ole and has shown more credentials in his career thus far than Ole.

Solskjaer remaining or leaving should not depend on one game. If he's the right manager and taking us the right way, he should stay even if we don't finish top 4. If he's not the right manager, he should be gone even if he beats Leicester.

I hope United have the sense to see beyind finishing fourth by a point or fifth by a point.
This is all well and good but what Elite club accepts a win rate in your domestic league of 45-47% none that I know of, if he had not invested money I would have more sympathy with him but remember way back at the beginning of the season when fans where lauding over Daniel James as they best 18m ever spent, there is always a reason a player is valued at £18m and Simeone like Sancho is £100m, we simply have spent so much money on mercenaries and absolute tosh so a Director of Football is now our most important signing followed by someone like Bezos buying the club and asking Woodward To kindly leave the club and leave his keys in trash bin like the Mess he and the Glaziers have inflicted on this great club , we can’t beat West Ham, Burnley , Aston Villa, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Everton where do I stop at the mighty Old Trafford, that’s an awful lot of dropped points at theatre of dreams by Ole the Clown, he loves the club , I love Ole the player but if he messes this up which now seems highly likely with his track record in PL with united and Cardiff And then finally his legacy will be tainted and he will never get another PL Job full stop !!!

Absolutely. It's because we were supposedly running on empty that we should have ground out that result against Soton by any means necessary because there was no guarantee we'll be able to win our subsequent games. Instead, he goes for a draw when a win today would have given us a big bout of confidence ahead of a key game where we can conceivably lose, no matter how bad LCFC have been.

I won't even mention his stupid squad and tactics selection against Chelsea which did nothing for giving players a rest or even getting into that (pointless) final.

One final thing as well. His lack of energy during the drinks breaks really irks me. How are players meant to get up for it when he's got all the energy of a dead fish?

If we get top 4, it won't be because we've taken it but because LCFC and Chelsea have bottled it. Last season, Spurs and Chelsea were not bad enough for us to get top 4 and you can see it in the points total. If we win on Sunday, we'd finish on the same points as last year. So it's not us getting better but rather our rivals were really, really poor this season. These are hard facts and they don't change no matter how much the Ole followers tell you it ain't so.

We are a million miles better than last year. He’s improved most players, there’s greater potential now, the culture is better, the signings are better. We end the day in 3rd. In our hands to stay there

Its more about how when there’s something at stake, we buckle under him and take a long time to recover from a slump. Last season we were 4th going into the PSG away game and everyone was saying Utd have a very strong shot of finishing Top 4, then we fell apart with injuries from overplaying, no real rotation used unless forced too and everyone looked tired and we slumped over the line in 6th, getting beat by an already relegated Cardiff at OT on the final day.

This season we fly up to within touching distance of Chelsea and Leicester, then when we get close, that familiar stumble comes back, players get injured, players look gassed from overplaying, no trust in the bench etc... and it looks like we’re staggering over the line again and this year OGS has had his fitness regime in place.

These familiar themes are worrying.

It would’ve changed things since then we could afford to lose against Leicester and still be above Chelsea if they fail to win one of their games.
This isn't even true.

We win today and lose to Leicester we're on 65.

Chelsea lose to scousers and beat Wolves they are on 66.

Leicester go through with 65 pts and better GD.

Interesting. So Jose should have been sacked after his first season when he managed a paltry 18 wins in 38 league games?
I didn't like Jose and I too would have been astonished if we'd sacked him arbitrarily for winning the EL and League Cup but being sacked for "not winning more than 50% of league games".

For the record, Ole could end up with 19 this season for a 50% record and add the EL and Top 4 to it - or he may fail on all those. Irrelevant to my mind.
We have to be more holistic than that.
He won the Europa League or yes he would have been in serious trouble !!
so Cl was guaranteed was it not and it’s better than 17!!!!
highly unlikely he will end up with more than 17 don’t you think tired squad , devoid of tactical ideas and he only uses 13/14 players suicide ! His the idea of 5 subs is to use then to change the game !!!

From where we were just into the new year, Rashford, Pogba and McTominay injured, to say a draw in our last league match would guarantee CL, then I think most fans would take that. I've always been Ole in, but he has to learn how and when to change the team around. Most of the players look tired, and that's not just physically, but probably more importantly, mentally as well. He will certainly be here next season, and will hopefully be able to add some class players to our squad. Ole has certainly improved some of the players individually, but tactically he still not there, another season in the Premiership, hopefully fighting for the title, will help him in that respect. Ole has done well with the squad he has had, it took SAF 3 years to get the players he wanted, and playing the way he wanted, although the last few games has produced some poor football, with some flashes of good, I feel that is primarily due to not rotating the team. It is clear to me that Pogba and Bruno cannot play in the same team, and giving McTominay and Fred the opportunity to play together again would be an ideal solution for this term. Neither are really creative players, but they give us some steel, and dynamism in midfield, with Matic and Pogba more laid back, and slower in the build up. I lost count of the number of times we broke, laid the ball to one of these, and the ball finished up with Lindelof or Maguire. Next season will be the season that shows whether Ole is the right man to take us to the next level of or not. He has certainly steadied the ship, got Shaw, Williams, McTominay, Fred, Rashford, Martial and Greenwood all improving, got rid of players that didn't fit his vision of what Manchester United players should be, and over the next 12 months we should see a few more leave. The academy is looking stronger than it has in years. All in all I think Ole has done a good job this season, despite some not so good performances lately.

Are you just ignoring that Nagelsmann has finished 9th and 3rd his last 2 seasons. Nothing to write home about that Ole can’t achieve. If we finish 3rd on Sunday, how could Nagelsmann have done any better with this squad against Pep’s City and Klopps’ Liverpool?

Ball movement needs to be much quicker. it takes way too long to get the ball from defense to into our attack when all it takes is a couple of quick and accurate passes.

We have lost one cup game in our last 21 games sitting 3’d on the table. It’s not black and white, and even imposters would relish the last few days of the season. I’ve said it before, and I say it again! If you think this is the time for this, you are either oppo fan or an idiot!

They always will until he wins a major trophy , did we no lambast Liverpool for Roy Hodgson, Brendon Rogers
And even Rafa who won the CL why because the first two had never won any major trophies!!!
for the record Roy got to a Europa League final with Fulham so I guess Ole should be given a free pass because he lost 3 major semi finals and has us in the top 4 let’s be clear here , any other season 63-64 points is 7th or 8th place and if you think next year will be easier with a resurgent City, Liverpool, Chelsea spending money, Jose happy in London and a Saudi owned Newcastle or Leeds under Bielsa will be a nightmare think again did I mention Leicester and Wolverhampton and Everton under Ancelotti and Arsenal maybe wining a 14th FA Cup , it’s no longer a top 6 but a new top 10 to 11 where everyone has money, we need 5 or 6 major upgrades and an elite level manager that knows how to win trophies !!?

Did not see you bumping this thread after any of our recent victories.

Hmmm.. Strange
I have probably posted this a few times in the last pages but this is complete and utter bullshit.

I was very happy to point out the obvious weaknesses when we were winning but I got jumped by a flock of top reds ready for a witch hunt.

I wish these type of posts are banned. This attitude of trying to play Billy Big Bollocks because they'd a support a manager who'd have us comfortably midtable in 90% of premier league years just so they can look like the bigger fan when we scrape a shitty result against a bottling LCFC is so, so wrong.

You're just making up fantasies though.

Suddenly when we don't win a match everything that wasn't a problem when we were winning is a problem.

You've no idea what motivates the players or what doesn't.

As someone else said we've one of the best records in the league for getting points from losing positions.

How do you explain that?
