I'm not sure where you're going with this. Laporte was bought before the CB market went through the roof (because of what Liverpool paid for VVD). City have spent an absolute fortune on players including £40+ million on Mangala who left on a free transfer, over £50m on John Stones and just shy of £40m on Otamendi. This is all several years ago when those fees for centre halves were record deals. Then you look at their full backs and the various goalkeepers they have purchased.. hardly been a shining light of value for money and how to do good business. They just have unlimited funds and if you throw so much of it around you'll pick up a Laporte eventually.

A top team isn't made up for eleven "elite level talents" either. It's not how football works.

Your expectations are fanciful to be quite frank and it's no wonder you feel slightly irritated.
Laporte was bought just after Van Dijk signed for Liverpool, but he did have a release clause which City had to go to.

The London pull seems to be a bit of myth IMO. Van Persie for one preferred Manchester.

Is this still a thing? Footballers don't care about that shite anymore quite clearly. Your very own John Terry was a die hard United fan supposedly, as was Sterling. The player will go wherever the best offer is on display, simple.
You should probably watch a few his interviews. Talks about Chelsea more than the club that actually pay him now.
Someone also mentioned Sancho...lol! Couldn't be any different. Sancho may have supported us as a kid, but he didn't come through our youth system since at age 8 ala Rice (with Mount, Abraham, Tomori), growing up with entire family and himself season ticket holders at the Bridge.
All we have to do is show interest and be willing to negotiate with Westham and he'll walk to Stamford Bridge if he has to. Anyone can match the bid and wages, even exceed them if they want, if Chelsea are involved he'll choose us. Only way he'll go somewhere else is if we are unwilling to meet Westham’s demands and anothuer club does.

That's probably because he's almost always asked about his friendship with Mount and by extension his time.at Chelsea. He's very open and honest in every interview I've seen so he always goes into great detail.

Was it Sancho?
Sancho is good but he is not 120m good. I'm quiet sure the club thought so too.
As far as I remember Maria (your Dof) wanted him but Lampard thought it was too much money for a position you already had good players in.

Given the limited transfer budget this window and the commitment to get Sancho, I’d rather spend a bit more on a CB to pair with Maguire than get a less-than-perfect DM.

I would plan on making a run at de Jong next summer, especially if Barca continues to play him too far forward and he remains unsettled. He would be a perfect DLP to replace Matic. With a better CB to cover Maguire’s lack of pace, we could afford a slightly less defensive DM and de Jong’s expansive passing and ability to carry/pass the ball out from the back would be an improvement in the midfield.

Still believe we can get Grealish & CB this summer after selling some players too. Reckon that DM/DLP will be the top priority next summer.

If only Rabiot had less baggage, he would have soothed the DLP role.
The fecker has many issues though.

Rice will only leave to go to Chelsea. You may as well forget about him. His whole family are hardcore Chelsea fans with a large number of them having season tickets. Rice himself had one before he had to focus on football. This isn't Sancho level where they were his favourite team, Rice was the type of kid that had the wallpaper and duvet set.

Really hope this is true. Don’t rate him at all. Would be glad if a rival blew 50-70 million on him.

I think it would be worth it next summer if he is still on market but this window we have to prioritise RW, CB and back up AM

De Jong, Pogba, Bruno would be the best passing midfield in the world, but question remains whether it could be balanced enough.

That’s why I think the remaining transfer budget (after spending on Sancho) would be best spent on finding the right partner at CB for Maguire. With AWB covering Maguire on one side (assuming the new CB is a left footed LCB) and the new CB covering him on the other, I’d like to see how defensively responsible Bruno, Pogba and de Jong would need to be.

Maybe. Unfortunately for the authorities they have nothing to go on. John Terry is an employee at Aston Villa and Drogba is running in Elections.

I luv to have a new CD but more than a CD( as Our defence was not bad last year), I feel we need to fix our full backs and DM positions as they are not contributing well to our attacking play.

Matic is good but he can't play every game next season and the difference without him is too much.

Rice is a Chelsea boy through and through. If its a choice between Chelsea and any other English team right now, it'll be Chelsea. Only reason he might not play for us next season or two is the arm and leg Westham will undoubtedly demand as he recently signed a long term contract. He'll have to demand the move and Westham accept a Barkley +Bats swap but I can't see that happening. Its sad though as I think he'll be the ideal CDM for Lampard’s 3 in midfield.
He was saying he was Irish before England came calling. So I wouldn't make on him only wanting to play for Chelsea. His head can be turned by anybody.

Declan Rice would be a brilliant buy for us in my opinion. He is exactly what we need behind Pogba and Fernandes. None of the players we have in that position are good enough.

According to a podcast I just listened to, in the top 5 European leagues this season, Declan Rice has won more tackles than any other player, has made the third most interceptions and is ninth when it comes to pressing. They are tremendous stats. He would be a tremendous signing.

West Ham pulling out all the stops in getting him to stay...

I might try and get The Shockmaster to do one asking him to leave, he can't be much on Cameo.

15 years in London and then last 5 years in Yorkshire, First few days were bit depressing but now I dont want to go back to London.

I find people around this area are very friendly compared to London so I can see RVP's view.

I like him a lot, he always says a good thing about our club and things related to us. Wish SAF stayed for another season atleast for him

Chelsea should get Booker T to wear a Chelsea shirt and get him to do that promo but replace Hulk Hogan with Declan Rice.

Just wondering if Chelsea did sign Rice, surely Kante would be surplus to requirements.....??

The majority of time I spend away from London is great.

Loved my years in Manchester.

I still think he's as average as average goes, but hey, young and British, Ole will jump on that real quick.

Solskjaer's signed more foreign players than British ones for United ...

To be fair, last six players Ole have signed were non-British.
Re Rice - his improvement in both long and short passing is very impressive. Reads the game well, and generally his play looks very mature for such a young guy.
Unfortunatelly, West Ham will demand some absurd money, but he has perfect skillset to fill much needed DM role in current squad.

He also got rid of his iPad months ago but it doesn't stop people claiming he stares at it during games instead of 'doing something'.

Once the narrative is set it can't be changed.
Incorrect on the iPad comment mate, he has it in front of himself again tonight

He's excellent. I began noticing a marked improvement in him at the turn of the year last year. He seemed meh ok-ish before then. He'll likely win the title with whatever team he chooses.

He’s improved a lot this year but not sure why this has been bumped after that game. He was fairly average tonight like everyone else.
