Does anybody know at what point we were the furthest away from 3rd in terms of points? Which game week or date it was?

Want to know for no other reason than to brag to my Arsenal mates

Its been a fantastic job by Ole as he has put together a first 11 that can actually challenge for the top prizes which is a first for us since Fergie retired .

Reaching the Champion's league now gives us the opportunity to go the next step and build a squad capable of the top.

Ole has shown he deserves the job now we need to give him the tools to achieve it

Very happy with 3rd given how we started the season. Didn't think it was possible at one point.

Celebrating is a bit much though. Real Madrid, Barca, Juve, Bayern etc don't celebrate coming 3rd. Neither should we. We will take it and hope its the start of something better to come.
We are not celebrating the 3rd. Celebrating the end of a very positive season.

All those clubs have won major honours in the last 3 years and are all in leagues that are either a 1 or 2 horse race.. not comparable.

I’m more than happy with our season, it’s going on the right direction! Let’s top it off with the Europa league.

We can be proud of Ole and the players. Whatever quibbles any of us have or have had, we’ve done pretty fecking well and should enjoy the fact we can now offer players CL football.

We’re back where we belong.

I'm personally ecstatic. Feels great.

Why?

This is a very important milestone on our journey back to the top and should be remarked upon.
Because this is as well as we could have dreamed of doing pre season. And we did it. We maxed out on our potential which provides some well earned stability from which to grow.
Players, management and fans should take confidence from this: that we have a good long term plan, that its working and that we can expect to improve with further investments.

I hope we can all now enjoy a good cup run in Europa, without any obsessive need to win, that the club has a professional and efficient transfer window, and we are all properly refreshed and enthused about a positive and exciting future.

Even though I liked Mourinho, I didn't feel this optimistic and excited after he came 2nd. Ole @ the Wheel feels so much better,

Bottom half of the table, could hardly score a goal, one win a month. I remember saying Greenwood will have to start scoring in the second half of the season and predicted we'd have a strong finish and Mason Greenwood really delivered to match Rooney and Best for goals. Everyone has done well, Martial and Rashford with good returns and of course Bruno was huge in linking it all together but without the sharp shooting 18 year old coming of age football wise I don't think we'd have made it.

Played half the season without Pogba and Fernandes. Imagine if they were fit. Good on Ole.
We would have finished 15 points behind Liverpool instead of 33?

It would 100% look different! We were on a good run so think we would still have made top 4. Villa would be down, spurs wouldn’t have 6th

Great end to a season of two halfs..
Brutally bad at the beginning but coming into the new year we looked better, Bruno changed everything. Great result and a EL as a bonus.

Just a random list I threw together :D

  • Ole f*cked out a tonne of dead wood last summer
  • Ole invested his time and efforts into young players including YTS like Greenwood and Williams
  • 7 Clean sheets to 13
  • Goals conceded down from 54 to 36
  • Vastly improved our injury record from last season
  • Vastly improved our overall fitness
  • Arguably improved all players across the squad, can't think of a player that has regressed
  • Bruno is a revelation
  • Just the 88 goal involvements from our front 3 (60 in the league)
  • 6th to 3rd
  • Still the Europa to play in
Not even the serial winner Jose can lay claim to a debut season as good as that to my mind.

I think what makes this finish particularly satisfying is that throughout the season there were times when it felt like the wheels could come off in a bad way. But we stuck through it, played some really good football towards the end, and (without jinxing it!), it looks like the club has some sort of plan that's coming together a bit. To finish 3rd behind 2 ridiculously good teams, an FA cup semi-final, and Europa still to go would not have been predicted by many at the start of the season. Things could always be better, but definitely happy with the progress today.

Interesting to see posters saying this is our best season post Fergie. Winning the Europa and EFL in 2017 was a better season, albeit feels like we’ve played better football this season.
We finished 6th that season and we are favourites for the EL this season.

Even if we don't win it, this is the most positive season since SAF left. We have the youngest squads in the league, our best players are entering their prime and we're playing smart football and scoring class goals. We go into next season unbeaten in the league in 14 games.

I would have taken 3rd at the start of the season. So job well done. Hopefully we take the europa seriously and win it.

People can say what they want. They need to remember that we're not the same United under Sir Alex, where we win back to back titles or at the very least challenge. We haven't had the luxury of that. We're a team that is currently rebuilding and finishing third is a massive achievement for us.

Going forward, we need to keep building and improve on this, but for now, we should all be celebrating.

Think I'm showing my age.
I'm not celebrating feck all.
Miles off those Scouser wankers, who will probably be going for the PL and CL again next season.

Sorry to be a party pooper.

I get what your saying but felt better to have a trophy to show for it. All well and good having a front three that play good football but we need silverwear.

Arsenal have played some great football but winning competitions is what matters ultimately.

Hopefully we can do it with great football and have the best of both.

Decent second half performance in a very unremarkable season.

Minimum requirements fulfilled, hopefully we can build from here and win Europa. Signings are gonna be key for next season.

We've done very well since the lockdown. Yes, the performances suffered quite a bit towards the end but we didn't lose a single PL game in this period and won the majority of them, some comfortably enough to give players a rest.

Absolutely worth a celebration. 18 point swing on 3rd with a consistent run of results. Impressive stuff by this team. Like ole said in his post match presser, the pundits had us finishing 6th or 7th at the start of the season.

The biggest thing to celebrate for me is that we are a team full of players I like. Can’t say that about a United team since Moyes broke down our title winning squad.
Next step is to create a squad full of quality players!

An amazing turnaround from February. Very pleased with how we ended the league season. I feel pretty optimistic for next season. Good times!

Fnishing 3rd is a great achievement for Ole, and I'm really happy that we have Champions League ready for next season.

Also, this season we have scored 5 a few times (it feels like since SAF retired we couldn't get past 4) and finally a hat trick in the league. Those small things make me feel hopeful and confident we are building something special.

Seasons not finished yet and the most important games our just starting. Winning europa is way better than a 3rd place finish to me.

But a really good league campaign in the end. 3rd is better than I hoped for, fernandes has made a big difference, let's hope he is well rested for thr games to come.

We need to back ole now in the summer again and see what he can do. I don't expect a title challenge next season but I expect us to be close to 80 points in the league and comfortably in the top 4 with a good CL run and ideally a domestic cup. Think of we are scrabbling around for top 4 come the last day next May he should be booted, if he is backed with sancho etc.

The main thing for me is that I like the team again. I like watching us, I like the team as players and people, and I'm invested in a way I haven't been in a long time. Today, I haven't been that excited about a United game for years.

Under van Gaal and Mourinho I almost stopped caring. I hated both men, football-wise and personality-wise, and I was so eager to see the back of them that I was almost rooting for us to lose some games just to speed up the process and start feeling good about United again. I just couldn't recognise us under those two: Unlikeable managers, boring, negative football, trying to buy our way to success by spending a fortune on spoilt mercenaries, becoming exactly what we used to accuse Chelsea and City of doing. We just weren't a likeable team in any way.

Now, with a young team full of home-grown talent, great team spirit, great energy, fluid, watchable football and a club legend who understands the ethos of Manchester United at the helm, it feels like United is finally back as a team that even neutrals can sympathize with, or at least envy.

I'm thrilled with third-place, proud of our comeback and excited about the next few seasons but that, for me, is the real reason to celebrate. That, once again, I care.

It's been a remarkable turnaround to finish 3rd. Massive props to the lads and Ole. Can't wait for next season!
I think I'd go one step further, unbelievable is how I see it. After that bad spell in mid season I didn't think we would get top 6 let alone finish in the top 4. Personally I'm looking forward more to the summer transfer than next season. If we can get 3 top signings I'll then be getting giddy for the start of the season. :)

I am not celebrating. I am happy we got into the CL but this is United we are talking about. Celebration is for winning the CL or the PL.

Say whatever you will about Ole, but he's taken a lot of stick this season and he's taken it on the chin.

Never once has he blamed the players, the club, the board, injuries etc. or hasn't made excuses or gotten involved in any off field antics or spats like Lampard and Mourinho.

Must feel like a massive middle finger to pretty much everyone, given where we were after the Burnley defeat. To finish 3rd is incredible, not as a club achievement in terms of where we need to be, but in context of the season, and something that did not seem feasible at all pre Bruno.

Well done to the players and staff, it's been a monumental surge to go 14 unbeaten, now the key is to finally kick on from this and take our form from the very start next season. Be fantastic to see us back in the CL, and hopefully we can cap this season off by lifting the EL.

We are not miles off Liverpool. We are young and hungry, we will sign players to give us more strength and our young talents will only be better.

Liverpool are great now, but I can’t see that they are building for the future. They will struggle soon enough.

All in all, a successful season bearing in mind where we were in January. Now let us try to win EL. Wont have Shaw, team is drained, it will be difficult but I hope we can make it to the final stages.
Then get a few signings and try to compete with the Dippers.

In Ole we trust!

IMHO our most positive season since Fergie retired. Plenty of young and homegrown talent coming through. One or two good signings from challenging for the big trophies. Congratz to Ole and the lads on getting the 3rd place after all.

Weirdly I have a bigger smile on my face tonight than I did the season we finished second with Jose or after we won the Europa. There’s no logic in that, but here we are.
