I'm 41, I don't have an Instagram account.

Ryan Giggs won 34 trophies with Utd, scoring 114 goals, I don't care who he shagged.... as long as he wasn't shagging them during a game, even if he was he probably still contributed more to the teams performance than Lingard does.

George Best was a wife beating pisshead, but a great player.

Useless comparisons are useless.

Do it on the pitch and most other times you get a pass.
Sure. As long as the player is good he can get away with everything.

Thats whats wrong. Objectivity is a great thing. Is Lingard a good player? No.

Is he a bad man? No

This thread is half and half about his Instagram and football. That doesnt make sense

He should delete his social media account because it is embarrassing. This latest 'man in the mirror' stuff shows he's still full of it. The wispy beard can go too.

One goal. That's what it took for him to decide the world needed to hear his social media redemption story.

Maybe I'm being too harsh - he seems like a nice enough lad and by all accounts, he's a popular member of the squad. But I honestly don't ever see the lad having what it takes to be a top footballer. His priorities just seem all wrong.
Well he's 28 this year and he isn't one yet so i'd say that is a fairly safe prediction mate.

I can't wait to see the back of him, he needs to go. Or take a 80% paycut or something.

When a player is doing it on the pitch like Giggs was then obviously his off field activities are not affecting his form and most don't care. But when a player is going through an 18 month to 2 year run of abysmal form then people are going to look to what they get up to off the pitch and fairly or not blame that stuff for the players lack of focus/form.

1. So if I insult your family, it's OK because they don't read the Redcafe? Weird logic. Before you make a cheap assumption, no, I'm not related to him in any way, I'm using this to illustrate the ridiculousness of your point.
2. Are you the definitive say of what off pitch behaviour leads to poor on pitch performance? At least I wasn't aware. Odd how that works one way for Lingard and another way for other players. It's almost like there isn't any link between the two.
3. The positive stuff he says in his Instagram post are nothing to mock or hate on. I'll take his positive attitude any day of the week and the fact that his own team mates defend and are happy for him (read Bruno's words after Sunday's game) are proof enough how his attitude is seen by his professional peers.
  1. Nobody insulted anyone's family. What are you on about? that's ridiculous. And if it makes you feel better go ahead  I don't mind ;)
  2. Nope, I have never said if i was correct. But we are allowed to discuss it and you are not the definitive say of what is valid/invalid as well. Is it hard to accept that other people might have a different point of view? that they might look at things from different angles? and oh yeah definitely I agree about the double standard, it happens everywhere. In this case too. One way for Lingard and another way for another player. Dan James got harsher criticisms and i have never seen people taking criticisms towards him so personally, Fellaini got a lot of shit talks and i have never seen people protecting him as much as they protected Lingard even if in the terms of output, they're both below average. Is it because Lingard an academy player? a Mancunian? this is one thing that you lot never explains. You look at one thing and one thing only, making it as if your view is the only one that is correct but behind it is a biased view because you might feel an academy player should be protected, I don't know. And as I posted before, it's funny that we should not talk about his instagram post when he's clearly using it to show his state of mind (which means there's correlation between his instagram and his football) but most of the Lingard 'defenders' could only resort to sentences like 'He's a Mancunian', 'lifelong fan', 'knows about the club more than you', etc.. which were outside of his performances as a football player. You bring up non football related things to counter football related things and expect people not to do the same thing, weird. And from there it's clear to see that he's simply not good enough
  3. If somebody suggested he still should be moved on because he's not good enough, regardless of his post, i'm sure it's not mocking or hating

But okay, i have accepted that he might stay for another season anyway. We'll see.

Not any special goal either, a lucky one gift wrapped by Leicester's keeper. Lingard has no shame whatsoever

He is basically begging for new contract. I would not be surprised that he stays. After awful season two decent cameos were enough for some fans to change opinion how he could be decent backup option. And Ole many times said how he rates Lingard

You'd have to have a heart of stone not to be pleased for him getting that goal.

Nice to see the whole team celebrating with him, he's clearly popular in the dressing room and it shows a nice squad togetherness.

He's been so incredibly frustrating for the past 18 months but there was a player there once and could be again.

I think his days here are done but hating on an Academy lad is fecking grim.
wtf is this  ?

The bottom line is, he's rubbish, he's been rubbish for a long time and he turns 28 this year. He is the deadest of dead wood and needs to go.

Dan James was criticised for his performance not his personal life or other interests and/or businesses. Lingard is receiving abuse for his personal decisions (because people are frustrated with his footballer performance) and that's the difference and the problem.

I don't think he'll (Lingard) get another season, to be honest. If we receive a an offer we will probably accept and then it will be up to him. I think he also wants to move and realises there is no way back for him (thus the Raiola move).

As for insulting your family, I'll pass. I wanted to illustrate how ridiculous it is to say that it's OK to insult someone because they don't read/hear/see it. It's still an insult and should be beneath you.

No one else is saying it?
His form since the restart is slightly better than his 2019 form.

Still not good enough, but I'm afraid the club and the coaches will think that's a good sign of him back to form...

Incoming new contract

his whinging in the press over the last few days is getting on my nerves now - he needs to keep his struggles out of the fecking papers. There are plenty of people to help him - why is he publicising his issues?
Is he trying to get the sympathy vote?

2020 will be forever known not for COVID, not for Liverpool winning the league after 30 years or Leeds gaining promotion after 16 years, but for Jesse Lingard scoring last minute goal from goalkeeper error which meant he finally found himself again, having become what was he always destined, 1 goal a season player.

He has no shame, milking this goal as if he's found cure for cancer, like no other players ever had any private problems they've went through but only him.

Does he exploit the fact that he plays for Man Utd to boost his public profile and promote his self interest? To the max.

He's 100% more prolific on social media than he's ever been on the pitch, that's why so much comment about him relates to his social media... it's all there is to generate headlines about him.

There's a difference between sharing problems with friends or people who can help you (as opposed to keeping it all inside), and publicising them. We know we live in an era where we try to encourage people to open up about their struggles and athletes/celebrities are often praised for publicly doing so. So maybe in his head he's helping. Maybe he actually is, I don't know.

I just personally feel it gets a bit tiring considering it's becoming mainstream news so often (Lingard's tweets are on BBC News). It encourages attention-seeking behaviour and I'm unsure about how much of a positive effect it has on people with issues reading this stuff. I'm not expert by all means and I could be well wrong here... but surely you just become desensitised to reading about peoples struggles so often, instead of getting inspiration/courage.

As far as I can see it's just the one Instagram post? He's not done any interviews or anything (unless I've missed them) and it's not his fault that the press have picked up his Instagram post and used it as a story.

I think the Instagram post is fine, he's just saying he's struggled and he has to work harder. It's the end of season and I'd imagine a lot of players are doing the end of seasony sum-up posts.

I disagree with those saying he won't move abroad. Why hire Raiola as your agent?

We can think about his football ability what we want but Lingard is very very clever person and he works on his PR. Average football player who has his clothing line, he is instagram "star", big friend with biggest stars in club....he just knows what he is doing.
Now this public cry about his "hard time" in personal life and the one half year ago. And it worked. He got sympathy from Ole. And Raiola will help him to get a new contract in this club. "Keep Lingard and i will help you to tie Pogba" for example.

A move abroad would definitely be best for him. His reputation in England is in a shambles and it's unlikely any fan base will want him/take to him. A move abroad to start afresh would be the best course of action for him.

Yup.

He's had personal problems this season, and while that's a shame and all, Manchester United aren't a charity. They pay him £100,000 a week to play football and unfortunately he's not been good enough for a long time now.

Being a good lad isn't enough. There are plenty of good lads out there working 9-5 with all sorts of personal problems who don't have half the opportunities Jesse does. While of course being a famous footballer comes with its own problems, there's an easy fix for that: go somewhere that your performances on the pitch and actions off it will be less under the microscope than they are at Manchester United.

This talk seems to me of Jesse fighting for his place, but thats over with now, he's not played well for almost 3 years. Time to go and we will wish you well wherever that be.

Don't think that's true about his reputation. I've just read the BBC article on him and they've attributed his poor form as beginning when his personal issues began, I'd imagine that'd be the case across the country.

I don't get this notion, and it's frequently repeated on here. Do you think he has some better reputation outside of England? Not really, the other part of Europe isn't stupid and I can't see anyone offering him even close to what he is getting now. His best option is some dumb move from the likes of Newcastle or West Ham where they offer him good money.

Just my opinion. I don't really care where he goes as I don't rate him whatsoever and just hope we finally sever our ties come the end our EL campaign. He's seen as an absolute joke by every set of fans in England, I imagine. Literally no rival fan I've met had a good thing to say about him. Around Europe I can't imagine he's too well known and thus would possibly have an easier time with the fans, initially anyway. As I said though, I really don't care where he ends up as long as we see sense and get rid.

Much like Fellaini, getting rid of him would be another step in eliminating any reminders of what has been a pretty terrible 7 years for the club, bar the odd moment here-and-there. The likes of Jones and Smalling were at least part of a successful period for the club even though their time is up too. But the likes of Fellaini, Darmian, Lingard, Rojo etc, just epitomise the abject mediocrity we accepted for far too long. Getting rid will be another symbolic step by Ole.

He is/was/will be never a United quality. We have shown door to good players like Nani, Memphis, etc but he has clung on to us because he is an academy product.

This is the right time for us to sell him for a decent amount. If we give him a contract extension, we are going to pay around 100k per week for doing nothing.

1. To create headlines. It worked.

2. He clearly know his time at United is running out, so just in case get one of the best agent to help you get similar salaries elsewhere once he had to leave.

3. To maybe be as a bargaining chip, by create stronger "ties" with United via Raiola eg. "if United want to keep Pogba, then offer new contract to Lingard too", else Raiola will make it hard during negotiations. This way, he'll stay longer here. Same with us getting other new players under Raiola's influences.

4. Play all the cards in the book to win new contract at United. To do this, help from experienced agent is necessary who will offer him advices and supports to achieve that. Milking every moment and any chances he can get is a good strategy eg. the recent ones.

Lingard is smart.

As if Raiola would tie Lingard's future to Pogba's.. first as soon as agents started putting interest of one of their clients over another, they are finished in the game as no one would trust him. And on top of it, why would he mess with his cash cow - Pogba - to help Lingard:lol:
