Is Ake better than what they have? Honestly? Is he any better than Ottamendi, Stones etc?
Not seen enough of him but was looking on the Bournemouth forum about him the other day and the majority seem to think he'll go on to be a star so will be interesting (or not if he's off to City!) to see if that is the case.

Will be replaced again in a year or two the cycle of terrible defensive reinforcement continues at City.

£60m on Cancelo, £50m on John Stones, £50m on Mendy, £42m on Mangala

They've had their fair share
I think if you account for inflation you will find they constantly over pay for players. They obviously just don’t give a shit.

I agree with don't give a shit.

Every team has players they over pay for.

They still keep going on about their business. We pay the same fees and still get dragged around for every transfer.

There were people on here turning their nose up at the thought of a 25m deal for him a few weeks ago.

Bournemouth have done amazingly well to get 40m+ for a defender that led them to the championship.

Never been convinced by Ake- just doesn’t seem to have the correct build for a centre half (rather like when we played Blind) Will be interesting to see how he gets on. Am guessing he’ll be cover for Laport and they are still in the market for a starter
And left back

Think he is a good player and is better than Stones/Otamendi at the very least. Good signing for them.

I get he adds pace, but I'm just not that convinced by him as a defender. That comes from me watching him for Bono and Holland
Well, most teams don't really get much time to construct proper attacks against City, and it's hard countering teams (Liverpool and us) who have their number on the break. Ake isn't a player attackers are going to willingly test in foot-races or want to be going up against in 1 vs 1's where time is of the essence before they're back in defensive shape. His pro-active style, the fact he can get as tight as he wants to attackers and not worry about being beaten on the other side, will give food for thought in how teams go at City on the break.

Don't think he's there for rock-solid, more traditional box defending, but in open play, he will give them a lot from a tactical perspective.

I get your analysis I just doubt he is as good as you think thats all.
What I mean is I fully understand the type of defender they want/are signing. I'm just not convinced by the quality of Ake

Not a bad squad option for City but he's not going to raise their level put it that way.

if he is better than what they have £40m id say is a decent price for a top prem club. I was thinking they paid 70 reading some posts

People complain that our deals take time, they do because we need to negotiate prices better.

City could have chosen to sweat Bournemouth a little longer and get Ake later, but why bother when you have the money?

I'm surprised that it's City who are signing him and not a club such as Chelsea. I think he would get on a lot better at that club or even us rather than City. But, it may work.
I can't work out if this is a good deal or not. He's 25, Premier League experienced and was head and shoulders above the other defenders at Bournemouth. It wasn't really down to him that the club were relegated, for example.

I think a fair assessment would be that it's a bigger price that City would have wanted to pay, but they can afford it so will not lose any sleep on it. It's not an astronomical £60 or 70million cost, so they'll suck it up quite easily. I like the player and it could work out for them...maybe...?

Pep's a mixed bag with CB's, so it's hardly a sure thing, but the thinking behind it; I think there's going to be a real push for more goals and overwhelming the opposition.

Could be one of those where the attack and midfield become so effective, the defensive end looks better purely due to the reduced amount of chances the opposition get to attack it.

Would’ve taken him at United, probably a very good signing for City. Good money for Bournemouth though if those figures are close to truth.

Agreed, they don't over spend on players either though.
They paid £60m for Joao Cancelo and nearly £50m for John Stones. They aren’t at the top end when it comes to individual fees but they have definitely over spent on players.

Like I have said, name me one club that hasn't over paid for a player ?

That's a good analysis, close to what I was thinking.
£40 million for a premier league experienced defender, should be coming into his prime and is ready for a step up.
This deal and the Torres one, City are doing decent business so far.

What next, 40 million for Patrick Van Aanholt?

Just messing, he is a decent player

Well it’s going to be a typical summer transfer window then, our rivals move quickly to get their deals done while we dither and argue with Inter for an extra €3 million for Sanchez.

Good signing for them and a fair fee i think. He's certainly not much worse than Maguire who we decided to splurge ungodly money on.

That's another left footed CB gone along with Salisu. Seems like the only good ones available now are Gabriel and Torres.

Seems a little bit much but City just slapping down a figure so things aren’t dragged out. They look like they want to wrap up business quickly. The Torres deal already annoyingly looks a snip I just hope they get rash with their other big money signings coming in.

Everyone does. But you were the one who said they don’t.
My bad, what I meant was they don't get drawn down in negotiations for too long. They just pay the money but like everyone has mentioned, it helps when you can sign a player and don't care if he flops.
