It was another one from Ornstein saying Chelsea aren't interested in exercising their first option on him and we showed some interest but he was only interested in going to City to pray at the temple of the lord God Guardiola.

Never really understood the Gabriel links since he's never seemed to be particularly good on the ball which I'd assume is the main reason we're concentrating on a left footer, to make it more difficult for attackers to limit their passing options.
We're looking for a left footer so that Maguire can play in his best position as a right CB.

He's been covering on the left until we get someone.

I'd prefer Pau Torres to Ake anyway tbh. Still think we should go for Upamecano but seems like we're only considering left-footed cbs which I understand to an extent but I think we should be focusing on the overall quality of the cb instead at this point. Upamecano and Maguire are both good enough on the ball where it shouldn't really be that big of a deal anyway. Still, I really like Torres' passing range. He is tall so I expect he will get better at heading even if he's not as good in the air as he should be currently. Solid positioning. Cost seems a bit high tbh. Think he's more of a £35-40m player at this stage but the potential is definitely there. I definitely prefer him to Gabriel from Lille who seems to be the other major cb we are being linked with. Never really understood the Gabriel links since he's never seemed to be particularly good on the ball which I'd assume is the main reason we're concentrating on a left footer, to make it more difficult for attackers to limit their passing options.

I have not watched Torres much, so I am sure you would know more about him, but I would prefer to see someone who is great at heading balls no matter how inexperienced they are right now. I have seen enough of Lindelof and Bailly trying to win an ariel duel to last me a lifetime.

Info: Things are moving around Rayan Aït-Nouri . @ManUtd and @ManCity have sent offers to its representative Jorge Mendes. The left side of @AngersSCO has visited the facilities of several clubs this week.

They're talking about reputed United target Pau Torres at CB. Villareal price = €65 = £58.5m

Damned coincidence how the price of a player shoots up over £55m as soon as United are mentioned.
It's Barca who were quoted this price, not United.

Possibly justifiable if plan is tuanzebe development over 2 years
No such plan can even exist - Tuanzebe spent literally ENTIRE season injured, and he was injured many times before that as well. As such, it is sadly not possible to rely on Tuanzebe going forward

Anyone know if this Pau Torres is quick? In other words does he compliment Maguire?

Two convenient names to use to raise the price

Haven't seen him much in real life but he becomes a beast in FIFA and FM

Will never be against LB/FB cover given how light we are...

Operate like what? Sign an endless stream of centre and full backs and still be shite defensively? Almost a £ billion Pep has spent on defenders! No thanks!
Maguire, Bailly, Lindelof....

Yeah he’s a bit rapid, leftie, good on the ball and decent passing range. Bit thin imo, might get bullied in the premier league, but who knows how he’d adapt? Looks decent enough, not sure he’d be worth the touted 65 million, as not seen him play that often.

City and Chelsea both being proactive and decisive early.

Suspect we will sign Sancho ... About a week before the window closes. United love a saga more than a good presesson
It seems like that because fans like yourself can’t keep your shit together.

These are all the players we have signed post-Fergie -

Fellaini
Mata (January)
Shaw
Herrera
Rojo
Blind (no pre-season)
Di Maria (no pre-season)
Falcao (no pre-season)
Romero
Schweinsteiger
Schneiderlein
Depay
Darmian
Martial (no pre-season)
Ibrahimovic
Mkhitaryan
Pogba (no pre-season)
Bailly
Lukaku
Matic (no pre-season)
Lindelof
Sanchez (January)
Fred
Dalot
Grant
Wan-Bissaka
James
Maguire (No pre-season)
Fernandes (January)

18 of 29 were signed in time to have a pre-season with us, of the other 11, 3 were January signings, 2 were deadline say deals with no saga at all (Martial and Falcao) and Pogba was on holiday post World Cup, and didn’t do pre-season with Juve either. Di Maria had no pre-season but deal spent no more than a week in the news either.

It’s just that one week of pressing refresh seems like a lifetime to many fans!

Funny how many of the bigger names who would be (or were atleast intended to be) important players had no pre-season. We dicked around for almost all of January before signing Bruno aswell.

And where are you drawing the line for having a good pre-season? Full tour/carrington practices? There is an Athletic article about United's transfers methods/contract dealings which I found highly interesting, every little change to deals has to be passed through to America for approval etc, the club are fully aware their methods drag things out.

Yes i was taking the piss out of the people who always moan about other teams making immediate transfers when ours take ages. Of course they don't follow city or Liverpool or Chelsea gossip for months on end so don't realise it's the same for every club.
