Our very own @Rolandofgilead has been working recently as a radio commentator for his local team Weymouth FC and has been doing a great job receiving lots of excellent feedback.

Weymouth have now made the playoffs and Sportsrader with support from BT Sport are providing a web based OTT subscription service to watch these games live.

This thread is to ask all Caf members to come together and support Rolly with this. You can sub to watch all 10 playoff games for just £14.99 or just the finals for £9.99, and it would also be great if you could show your support for his work on the Weymouth games by tweeting about how good he is and tagging in:

https://twitter.com/TheVanaramaNL?s=21
https://twitter.com/btsportfootball?s=21
https://twitter.com/theterras?s=21

You can find all the details of the PPV subscription service here - https://events.sportradar.com/en-int/page/vanarama-league-play-off-passes and this will have the added benefit of helping lower level teams who are potentially struggling financially with everything going on right now.

Thank you all in advance, and go @Rolandofgilead!

Tomorrow is the big day. My research is done, the call time has been given and I'm ready to go.

Thanks for all the support and thank you to all that have bought or will buy the stream. I'm aware that because of the level of football this is a bit of a niche interest, but this is a massive step on the road to my dream job and I appreciate the support hugely.

Congrats, please take this opportunity to commentate on a game exclusively using FIFA stock commentary.

Now he’s got the ball, what’s he gonna do with it?

Taken that in the unmentionable area

This is good Rolly! Super detailed in quite a frantic game.

What an experience and I've been asked to do the final next week too.

Thank you all so much for the support especially @Rado_N and @Crackers for their feedback and encouragement.

I'm still buzzing now.

I should have posted this a couple of days ago, but with working dull time and preparing to do the final on Saturday it just slipped my mind.

A couple of notes; firstly, all of the negative feedback I have had (including from my own dad) has been about the guy with me. He won't be there on Saturday.

You will notice that I have a habit of slipping in to radio mode during this. Being my first TV commentary its only natural, but something to work on going forward.

The Micky Flanagan voice didn’t help him, but he was also nowhere near as knowledgable and didn’t seem to have prepared as well as you had.

I assume he had a similar background to you but for Dorking?

My god, the contrast in the commentary between you two couldn't be more stark. You've got a brilliant velvety voice that's perfect for commentary and you were far better prepared; it sounded as if he was talking out of his nose all match solely in silly platitudes.

I agree with the small critique you mentioned - it's less necessary to have constant commentary when it's a match on TV as opposed to radio. I imagine it can feel a bit awkward during that dead air, but pacing your commentary (if that makes sense) might help and I'm sure you'll improve with practice.

Genuinely though the quality of your commentary vastly outstripped the quality of the football - really really impressive. Good luck for the final (especially as a fellow Ben and fan of The Dark Tower)!

That's extremely interesting. There seems such a fine line between 'radio mode' and the danger of missing out on a moment.

Yeah he does their match commentary. He seemed astounded when i told him that we built ours from nothing and for an away game we average between 600 and 800 listeners.

Thanks mate. I've only been doing the radio commentary for just under a year and I started with no experience at all, so everything I do is self taught and self researched. I went out and looked up research techniques from professional commentators and sought as much negative feedback as I possibly could. Then after each game I'd usually be working a night shift, so I'd download the commentary and listen back, making notes and be self critical.

sounds silly I know, but I believe I have talent and so I want to fulfill any potential of turning this in to a dream job.
Fecking hell, your voice sounds nothing like I was thinking @Rolandofgilead Great job mate!
 what were you expecting?

Thanks man.

There really is, plus i find it hard to put aside my love of the club when we score late winners like we did Saturday.

The hardest thing which nobody ever tells you going in, is picking out the numbers on the back of striped shirts! When all you have is a teamsheet and no monitor, like i did all season for radio, you have to rely on the numbers for the players names.

I don't think it's silly at all; I genuinely think you have potential to get to the top! Really think you did an exemplary job of being appropriately detached from the action whilst also adding to the viewing experience.

All the best to you and I hope you make it!
