Can't blame Kepa today.
Nope, Rudiger was atrocious and Zouma got beat all ends up by Auba. That said, it was a blatant foul by Bellerin on Christensen in the buildup to the second though that type of thing is never given.

My point in this entire thread is that I'd rather spend on a GK than a CB - yes our CBs are mediocre, but they can be shielded by a fit Kante (fingers crossed) whilst literally the worst goalkeeper in the history of the PL can't be. Just to reiterate this point, Kepa finished last among all goalkeepers in the top 5 leagues in save percentage and last among all PL keepers in the history of the stat.

His Chelsea play exciting attacking football which holds promise for the future. However the way they defend and struggle to control games for prolonged periods, it reminds me of Arsene Wenger when he was past his peak. Some sexy football but eventually a soft centre, that quality teams can get at.

Let's see how he develops. I do like his ideas - high press, short quick passing interchanges - but showing potential in a few aspects doesn't make a top manager.

They look good going forward with Pulisic, but they look beatable. I'm more annoyed now at the semi-final loss after watching this game.

I'm not sure how far they can stretch their funds for just this window. They might get one defender in...maybe...
We're after a GK and LB from all accounts.

No Kepa, but another game where they concede 2. Hmm.

Defensive shape was poor again today and it has to change, along with some defensive players. They cannot play like they have been with 343 or a target man with Giroud.

They'll have to play with a lot of new players with an entirely new system and/or shape to get the most out of their forward players.

Can't be spending all that money and pumping balls over the top or relying on the counter with two players playing off a Giroud type CF.

You won't be buying a goalie. Even if Ole dumps De Gea (which he won't), he's got Henderson and Romero.
I'm half-expecting Ole to stick with De Gea next season and give him the nod of confidence. Something just tells me that he isn't confident enough to give Henderson or Romero the number one spot. Definitely not Romero.

Looks like Lampard isn't a fan of Kepa. I guess Oblak is the number one preferred signing, if possible?

I keep on hearing or reading how Lampard has his team play sexy football but I rarely see it. Pulisic's individual brilliance has made their play better. Even today after he went off injured they rarely played any good attacking football. Not taking anything away from his season as he has done well to take them to top 4 but this whole theory that he has made chelsea play some amazing football seems like a myth to me.

I get this argument totally but today confirms that a CB is super necessary too. As good as Havertz is, if it is between him and a CB, it’s a poor decision that could cost you. The defenders just aren’t up to the task.

I think Oblak is would be everyone's preferred signing if they needed a goalie!

With Petr Cech in the role that he is at Chelsea, it will be interesting to see his influence on who our next goalie is.

So, with the 3rd place trophy going to United, the score between these two managerial behemoths of the game currently reads:

OGS 1-0 Frank

I feel that today highlights how much they have relied upon Pulisic post lockdown. Looked very average today after the first 15 minutes and didn't register a shot on target in the second half of a cup final. Pretty shocking stuff.

They look smooth going forward and with their new forwards will be a handful but they need leadership at the back and a new goalkeeper. Plenty of work to do and this should ground them a little.

No idea why Barkley came on for Mount on a side note.

There's no way the coaching staff and board members have been watching Chelsea all season and not sign a defender.

Actually the same was said about Klopp pre Van Djik.

I think if you have a functional attacking system, it only takes 1 great defender to plug the hole at the back. That's what Klopp did with Van Djik and eventually Allison too.

I still think he had a decent first season in that he made top 4 which will always be the main aim for the top sides.

It's shite, and I wish it was more important to win a trophy but it's just modern football these days, a club would rather finish 4th and win nothing than 8th and win a cup. It's just how it is.

I do think though that Lampard was getting overhyped by elements of the media that seemed to be praising Lampard for finishing 4th whilst giving out backhanded compliments to Ole for finishing 3rd , even a few Utd fans on here were guilty of it. Today should quieten them down a little.

Its almost like the problem is fundamentally tactical, eh. Not only Kepa.

Personally would keep him except for the fact of the media narrative and almost the entire fan base are against him now, no way back I think with us. He'll go get his form back and be a top keeper somewhere in La Liga.

I want to see Tomori and Ampadu play next year, would go buy a LB as top priority.

Any GK we can afford won't improve us too much.

And ole isn’t ?
He's on the same hiding to nothing as Ole, I'd say.

He has a less patient owner than Utds who are aware of the rebuilding job. With Chelsea it is a question of expectation from the investment.

Lampard has done really well this season but if there's no progress next season, will Roman be patient with him?

In all earnestness, how can you be so sure?

It's his first season as manager of a PL club and he has done well by all objective metrics. He will also learn, but he does seem a handful.

Very good first season at Chelsea from Lampard. So much to like about the way he goes about his job, It makes it hard for me to dislike Chelsea, especially the kind of team he is trying to create.

I think Lampard and OGS are in very similar circumstances and if both can do well next season, they will become the next big rivals after Pep and Klopp over the next few years. Will be a race to see who can win the PL first.

We had a similar situation. We desperately needed an attacking midfielder and Ole went for Maguire.

Has he? Chelsea were tipped to finish above us, maybe 5th at worst. I think he's had an ok season, but mostly because Spurs and Arsenal were so poor, and Leicester collapsed. We also had a pretty poor start but managed to recover.

I’ll be honest the Chelsea squad at the start of the season along with an inexperienced Frank managing I thought they’d be mid table. They’ve done pretty well to finish 4th.

Mount, Abraham, James, Tomori etc were all unknowns (in the PL I know they have loan experience) He‘s starting to gel a good young side and they’re adding good players already this summer.

That being said their fans have been pretty smug this past 6 months or so (not so much on here) I’m glad to see them get knocked down a peg. Dropping to 4th, losing the final and going out of the CL next week should keep them quiet for a few weeks.

I rate them around the same level. I don’t think either will be at the club long term but hopefully I’m wrong. Ole still has a lot to prove though. Bruno saved him his job in fairness.

Like I've said earlier as well, you need a defender more than Havertz. I'm assuming you're going to sign a GK regardless, and assuming you aren't having a bottomless pit of cash and can prioritize just one position it has to be defence. Hell, I'd probably replace each of the 4 defenders before I buy Havertz.

You scored around 70 league goals this season, and you had Pulisic missing in the 1st half. With him available and additions of Werner and Ziyech combined with your tactics, you're already going to score 80 odd goals provided your signings are a success - which in most cases is good enough to compete for the title. However, if your defence stays as is and the GK gets exposed this often, you'll still concede 40 odd goals irrespective who the GK is, which pull you down and you'd have to settle for another top 4 fight.

4th is objective. They all played the same teams and he got more points than everyone but 3 other clubs. Thats a decent job for a first season.

I'm not a Lampard fan, and don't think it's worth defending him. So I'll let it be at that.

And Cantona saved Fergie's if stories are to be believed.

You can damn them with faint praise but are unwilling to give credit where it's due

Really? You spent all that money and chelsea were still predicted to finish ahead of you with a tranfer ban and losing their best player. There is either something fundamentally wrong with your club to make people think that or someone (you) is telling porkies to support point, I suspect the later.

Without Bruno there is not a hope in hell we would have made top 4, which was the minimum expectation at the start of the season. Perhaps we should see how Ole improves the team from here, before calling him our Messiah don't you think?

Ole didn’t have the wealth of attacking options Chelsea have though. They have about 3 competent attacking midfielders as is. Mount, RLC and Barkley there, with Mount being one of their standout performers this season.

Maguire is unfairly maligned here. He has been an ever present, a proper captain and has had far more good games than bad ones.

Chelsea have Ziyech and Werner to add already. Serious work needs to be done at the back. A GK won’t resolve it.
