I think if we dig our heals and Grealish pushes, we could do a deal for 50+ 10-15 in add ons and that are achievable.
We could loan them some players in return for example Rojo can do a great job for them in defense next season.

What does Redcafe think about James Rodriguez? I mean, we need a backup to Bruno, and he won’t cost 40-50MM. Heck, the club needs depth so badly it couldn’t hurt even if we added Grealish. Thoughts?
I don't know much about his club performance, but he's always had excellent WC.

I don't understand why is there still so much optimism we can get Grealish for cheap. I've maintained over past many months, no way Villa would sell him for cheap, especially if Villa stays up. For example, Maddison is valued at 80m before covid market, and Grealish is arguably having a better season than Maddison, so from that perspective he should worth at least 80m too, but how much he worths now in this covid market is really up to the sellers club (how desperate they are to sell, and how bad their current financial status is)

We all think he should be cheaper because of the current covid market, but truth is, how many clubs are selling their best player really cheap in this market anyway? (Dortmund is still holding out 100-120m for Sancho, Villa is still asking 80m for Grealish, Juventus has spend 72m on Arthur, City has just spend 41m on Ake from relegated Bournemouth).

Not to mention when we are involved, sellers club would often ask for higher price. United tax has always been the problem for us.

And let's just say, if relegated Bournemouth is selling Ake for 41m, then even if Villa is relegated, they would not sell Grealish (who is better prospect than Ake) for less than 50-55m. Since Villa stays up now, I think they would not accept anything lower than 70m.

Yeah I have always felt £60-£65m including addons would be meeting Villa roughly in the middle, however like you say Jack has to push this move to make it happen.

What does the CAF think about acquiring Hudson-Odoi in addition to Sancho? With the acquisitions of Ziyech and Werner and possibly even Havertz and since they already have Pulisic, Abraham and Mount, his chances of even featuring on the bench for Chelsea are slim. Sancho and Hudson Odoi could be our RW, Rashford and James could be our LW and Martial and Greenwood could be our ST. That would offer us enough depth in our attack.

In Rashford (22), Sancho (20), Hudson Odoi (19) and Greenwood (18), our attack would be set for the next decade.

The Caf just really likes Grealish and would do anything to convince themselves that we can get him. Whether it involves Grealish forcing a move to lower the price to something cheap or involves paying up to 60m for a rotational player

Spending 60 to 80m on a bench player makes no sense especially when we plan on spending 100m on Sancho.

We are not going to get both and Chelsea are not going to sell him to us unless it is for a lot of money.
Pedro and Willam are leaving this season anyway so looks like Chelsea are going to have a lot of options in attack but not a lot in defence.

Chelsea wouldn't want to sell him to a rival but in a case they did, they'd ask for Henderson in return.

Very good player. Hope things work out and United can get him. He will surprise a fair few if he does indeed move.

I think it will all come down to what Jack wants himself - he has saved them on numerous occasions. If he absolutely wants the move I dont think the club will outprice him. At least not if we are the only one going for him.

Its not that simple is it? When Maguire really wants to move here, we still have to pay Leicester 80m last summer.

Good idea, but he signed a massive contract, so no way Chelsea let him move.

Think that opinion is super harsh on Grealish. He’s looked technically better than most opponents in the EPL, and that Arsenal game for instance he was superior to anyone on the pitch. You don’t get linked to clubs like us if you’re that out of your depth compared to a Foden.

To create so much as Grealish has - playing with crap team-mates - says it all really.

Whoever ends up with him will be lucky

That's actually one of the reasons as to why he creates as much. Everything goes through him, he's their alpha and omega, only problem being his teammates inability to convert those chances.

I also think Foden pre lockdown was anything but a “key player”, saying that, I’d take Foden over Grealish but I’d be interested to see if the roles were reversed how Villa might have done.

Good players look even better in good teams, especially when you have better players around you. I think this is particularly true for players with the skill set of Grealish.

Yeah this is one of the main reason I don't think he's worth pursuing for the money he would bring. He is the main guy with a free role where everything goes through him, not to say he is inflexible but he won't get that at United.

We don't have the money to be spending 60 to 80m on a player that likely wouldn't even start for us when everyone is fit. He'd no doubt improve the squad but we could do so much more with that cash.

If we are getting Sancho then it's no doubt going to take up a lot of our budget and maybe all of it before player sales come into it. Any cash we raise and have left over should go towards a defender for me.

Not sure if I should continue that joke as it can turn very dark (I have severe but stable health issues :p).
Martin Ødegaard to my knowledge hasn't had any chronic issues, but I did some searching and a fairly new article (this year) wrote about him having patellar tendinopathy, which again google says basically gives you pain in the knee and occasional swelling. Guesswork from myself, someone who obviously don't know anything about this makes me think he'll be able to play perfectly fine but could need to be managed more, so won't play all games like most healthy players at his age would.

Even so, he has been playing through the pain for Real Sociedad, so it goes to show that unless it gets a lot worse he should still be able to have a good career. And if not, he should be damn happy he chose the money in Madrid before development in another country with the new predicament.

Something that should worry others who now would consider him for United is that if this issue is recent, he has had a big fall in productivity after the first half year, so it could be that the pain is hindering him when he is on the field. I haven't watched the games though, but that is how his progress has been reported in Norwegian media during the season: Great start but fading as the season has gone from midway to a close.
Just catching up on this thread but wasn't this the injury that ended Hargreaves time at united and pretty much career?

I dont know if there are differing degrees but obviously with Hargreaves no matter how many operations he had or time out he took it didnt help.

I'd stay well clear.

On grealish I'd pay the money. He is quality and could give us 10 years service in differing positions potentially moving back further in midfield with time.

Looked at like that it's not that expensive.

It is very quiet on the Grealish front lately. After Villa leaked their valuation (above 80m pounds), Man Utd apparently discontinued any negotiations

Not sure he's anywhere near good enough. Seems to need a loan or two.

Seems to be one of the best dribblers and most press resistent players in the league. Only concerns would be how Ole would make it work with Pogba Fernandes and Grealish, and whether our engine would still remain weak (buildup) as he does look to be an attacker more than a midfielder. On the other hand having a midfielder who can beat defenders like he can would add a new dimension to this team. Players like him are also dangerous to press given he just glides around you. For example the likes of Maddison and Mount are good but they dont have the sort of time and balance on the ball that Grealish has. He's very hard to knock off it.

Grealish doesn’t fit in this team unless we’re selling Bruno already. I’m not sure why there is a clamour to sign him.

The areas we need to improve are RW, LB, GK and probably CB. We’re good for midfielders, and it would be ludicrous to spend money on a backup AM, and I doubt he’d come here knowing he was second choice.

Common sense and logic. We now see quite a lot of bits of information in relation to many players, but not to Grealish, whereas there were loads of info earlier.
Wouldnt be logical to suddenly drop all interest just because they are asking for more though. But it is possible they are feigning the discontinuation for sure. But im pretty sure Ole still wants him.

Depends on how they told us they want 80m. If they were adamant he won't be going for less, I think that's 30m more than we were willing to pay in the first place (guess work on my part). There would be no sense in continuing to negotiate from those two points.

I think getting a Matic replacement in the form of Rice would be a more important signing. So if a 60 million fee is required for one of those two I'd take Rice given the cover we have. We should perhaps look at Donny VB given the value he would provide.

Who has quality on the bench? I'd argue only City and there's some expensive players on sat down. If we promote then that's a gamble as most decent young players need to go on loan. If we spend 20m like on James, you don't necessarily get the quality or you pay to get players that seemlessly fits with little drop off in quality, you can't have it both ways. Let's not forget the English tax too. 80m is high but I suspect we'll pay around 60m......

And then run Bruno into the ground again next season? If Bruno gets injured, we are back to the dreaded Pereira/Lingard/Mata trio. And Solskjaer and has been very reluctant to play Pogba as the #10(because we need his passing ability in the base of the midfield). If Bruno/Pogba aint working, we have no one to bring from the bench to change the game either.

I think ideally we need both a DM, and a backup AM. However I don't think we have funds to go for both this season, considering Sancho and that we will get another defender as well. So I think we have to accept Pogba and Matic as the starting midfielders, with McTominay and Fred as backup to them. Are they great backups? No. Can they do a decent job? Yes. Should they be upgraded on in the future? Yes. Are they better backups than Jesse fecking Lingard? Hell yes.

So go get Grealish/VDB now since he is available. Get another CM in next summer.

Yes this is the reason I mentioned Donny VB. I think we could get both him and Rice for under 100 million with shrewd negotiation compared to Grealish for almost 80 million alone. I don't really blame Villa for their valuation considering his influence in the team. I highly doubt that this is a possibility given our pursuit of Sancho and unless we sell a few squad members it's a stretch.

For argument sake do you think this midfield and attack will struggle?

Rashford Martial Greenwood
Sancho
Partey Pogba
With Bruno on the bench

This midfield will struggle defensively. In terms of attack, it’s Ok occasionally to give rest to Bruno

I'm warming to us signing Grealish. I don't like his laddish behaviour and at 25 years old I think he needs to mature a bit.

If he could leave Birmingham in Birmingham and focus solely on his football he could be a very good rotational player with Pogba, Fernandes, Rashford and Sancho.

CAM, CM, LM, RM are all positions he can play in well so it's not as though we would be signing him for the bench.

When any of the 4 players I mentioned needed a rest Grealish could start and he could still easily pick up 25 starts in all competitions next season. Could work for us and him.

I think Sancho is at his best, when he is playing from the wing, not from the middle. Also when Sancho plays in the middle, our attack again becomes bare, and we are back to James/Ighalo as the ones we have to bring from the bench. We are back in CL next season, and will have to go full throttle in the league as well, and in many weeks we will have to play 3 games. Having 6 starting quality players for 4 positions(Sancho, Grealish, Bruno, Rashford, Martial, Greenwood) is very good. Ighalo and James can be backup.
