I took a day off work today as my dog has been very poorly. I’ve played this for a good few hours today and I still feel the same.

Before I slate it, I will say I love the combat and even more so as I’m levelling up, and it is pretty, I’ve taken more photos this afternoon than I probably have in the entire time I’ve had my PS4.

But that’s it.

It’s such a shame, it could have been a blinder. One of my favourite games of all time was The Last Ninja on my C64 and I can’t remember another really great ninja game since, so I was really looking forward to this. This game could have smashed it.

I really think if they’d have created a more linear Uncharted type game around the combat with a tighter narrative it would have been fantastic.

For saying how beautiful the world is, there’s no urge to explore. I’m literally following the wind all the time to get to my destination as fast as possible. None of the wandering about I did so much of in Skyrim or RDR2.

There’s no drama, no emotion, no depth. I’m going to carry on with it, it’s not like I’m finding no enjoyment in it, just really disappointed in a missed opportunity.

Anyone find it hard to see inside the buildings. Usually pitch black sometimes.
Yeah, it’s ridiculous.

I said earlier in this thread that I literally finished TLOU2 and went straight to this ... initially I kept going into dark rooms and instinctively clicking R3 to turn my torch on.

Finally finished the game. All I can say is. Wow. What a game. Amazing graphics and I couldn’t stop looking at the scenery all the time. I really like the characters are their depts. Story was surprisingly short about 12 hours. But thankfully I did all the side missions for the other characters before the final Act. Kahn was fun to watch and a good villain. That really helped bring more weight to the story and the world around it. Easily a 9/10 for me. Though for me, that’s been the same sentence for the PS exclusives all damn Gen :D

Glad it’s not me. Bought a new 4K tv with the hdr on and still could barely see inside.

Also a fun fight I just had. It’s cool when you can string together all the weapons and attacks you’ve learned. I tend to completely forget about certain things I can do in games.

Nice.

For all it’s weaknesses and failings ... the combat is so much fun. Probably the best combat in this type of game I’ve played.

I really enjoy the game but echo some of the comments in here, I just can’t be bothered to play it at the moment which is strange. The combat really is the best bit and I’m glad they have added an even harder difficulty as the curve was just starting to flatten for me.

Really like the stag helmet. But the visor is annoying as feck for cut scenes. Blocks the eyes

Officially the best poker player on RAWK.
It saddens me every time I get into a duel. I mean, who the feck thought a low/spinning camera AND allowing Jin to turn around was a good idea? Also, the movesets on the enemies are so primitive, even on hard it takes no time at all to learn them.

They could have been so good too :(

I turned all the sliders up to maximum brightness and it's ok now.

I sort of gave up mid act 2 though. The story's so dull even Buzz Killington would take offense.

Got my 25th platinum with this game. Think I’m done getting platinums now. Hate going after collectibles and I rarely enjoy going for the trophy’s. Fecking completion isn’t in me anymore.

I have none. Never cared about trophies to be honest.

But the plat in this seems easy to be honest, even for someone like me, I finished the game with 60% of all trophies collected.

Never cared much about platinums, but I know I have a few. Dark Cloud, God of War, FF15 are the ones I remember having. I know I'm 1 or 2 chalice dungeons away on Bloodborne, but I grew tired of the same look in the dungeons.
Might get Ghost if it's just about doing quests and getting collectables. Can't be arsed if I need multiple playthroughs.

I'm up to 35 and I keep promising myself that'll I'll stop going for these stupid things but I know I will keep going :( It is kind of nice to see a 100% completion figure though; just something weirdly satisfying about it.

Oh nice! I really enjoy it sometimes if it a game I like. GoW, Spider man, TLOU 2, Ghost are all easy ones. I was going to do one for Red Dead but feck that. I did it for Witcher 3 and that was bad enough. The gwent cards were stressful to find.

I’ve been doing side missions for so long. Finally did one of the main missions and unlocked
Ghost Stance
probably could have done with that for periods of the game

It’s just a lull, chin up and you will be back in the trophy game. I’m about halfway through this and once I’m done it will be number 45.

Wow that's plenty. Which one is the hardest or took the longest platinum you have

2 fairly recent ones took a long time Death Stranding which I very much enjoyed and AC Odyssey which I didn’t but just kept going

Hardest on paper was Sekiro or Bloodbourne. But thinking about it Dishonored was even more difficult than those 2

Just finished Act II.

My poor horse :( RIP Kage

Didn't expect the story to go this way but it’s quite interesting! Effectively on the run from both sides now.

Whoever I bet on
Geez, you guys are harsh, from what I read, the game got 85%+ with most critics.

Anyways, I bought into the initial hype and purchased it. This is the first game that is not PES, Mortal Kombat or platform that I have played since probably around 2006. I am in awe - this is absolutely fantastic  Never mind the gameplay, I would spend time on it for the cut scenes alone

The game is really flawless. Everything is so well done. My only nitpick is that it's too short and I can't see to good inside the buildings. That's about it.

The game is really flawless. Everything is so well done.
It's not though.

Firstly, I am enjoying this game, really enjoying it but it's nowhere near flawless and not everything is well done.

- As you say, some of the dim lighting is quite annoying and if the collectable items weren't so 'shiny' you'd never see them.

- The missions are so lifeless. Yes, it's fun combat but nothing feels important to me. There isn't any nuance or real weight behind things.

- I still hate some of the animation. I'm a deadly samurai, so why am I so clunky while near the edge of cliffs, or running and jumping over logs? The transitions between surfaces is dreadful and dated and really jars me every time. Individual animations are great but there's so many rough edges in that respect.

- And this isn't just aimed it this game but why do I have to push a button to squeeze through a gap? FFS, just let me walk into it and take me through. I got a bit miffed at this in TLOU2 as well. I don't see the point in making me push a button to do this, surely the game can judge that I want to squeeze through, what does hitting R2 mean? Make my movement smooth and continuous please.

- The open world is pretty soulless. Aside from the gorgeous visuals the world feels empty and lifeless. Again, no real nuance and no real defining differences between areas that help with navigation. I just find myself following the wind most of the time instead of feeling familiar with my surroundings and following my instincts. Great open world games give you this familiarity and can allow you to learn the landscape. I haven't got this yet with this game.

- Foxes become really annoying really quickly. If the world encouraged exploration, the foxes wouldn't be as necessary. Same with the yellow birds. Ok, so they perform a duty, but they also become tiresome really quickly.

- One thing that I cannot get my head around is the climbing and descending points on cliffs. I'd rather there be no way to traverse up or down cliffs than a half hearted PS1 Prince of Persia level climbing / descending action.

But ...

... the graphics are lovely and the combat is so much fun that I'll keep playing this until it's complete. It is a good game but I just wish it would have been a great one and Sucker Punch were so close it hurts. I can't help but feel ultimately it was rushed out. Some areas are so good and others really detract from what could easily have been a classic.

The combat though!!! Awesome.

The controls in general are rather dodgy. I mean why is it the same button for movement actions and pick ups? That's bad design 101.

Also the switching stances, parrying and general smoothness is an issue in terms of lag (though I don't expect most to care about that.

I'm deep in to act 2 and still playing, but it's wearing thin now. The camera remains the biggest let down and stumbling block to a higher rating, it's just soooooo detrimental to the gameplay. However all in all for an open world game it's still one of the better examples.

I think a sequel and more refinement (and more time in design in all aspects) would be a real contender.

You just forgot?

But I agree, I prefer this to RDR2 a lot.
Well, I played RDR2 for like 2-3 days so yes, it was easy to forget.

And before that, the previous non sports/combat/platform game I played was probably MGS 4 back in 2010. So I exaggerated a bit with 2006.
