I made this thread 5 years ago :

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/players-who-will-still-be-here-in-5-years-time.405226/

See the results. The players who are still here since the end of 14/15 season are :

David De Gea
Phil Jones (might not last the transfer window)
Luke Shaw
Chris Smalling (might not last the transfer window)
Marcos Rojo (might not last the transfer window)
Jesse Lingard (might not last the transfer window)
Andreas Perreira (might not last the transfer window)
Juan Mata
Fosu Mensah (wasn't a first team player back then)

Some of the bold shouts from time period included :
Memphis (who we hadn't even actually signed at that point)
Paddy McNair (Championship player now)
Ander Herrera
Daley Blind
Adnan Januzaj
James Wilson (League 2 player now)
Tyler Blackett (Championship player now)

So who's getting through the next 5 years? Current first team players only - must have made at least 1 appearance for the first team (no youth prospects like Laird, or players we haven't signed like Sancho).

1. Mason Greenwood
2. Marcus Rashford
3. Harry Maguire
4. Luke Shaw
5. AWB

In 5 years time, I'll give you a point for each one you get right and deduct a point for each one you get wrong (probably). So name as many as you want at your own risk.

This should be interesting.

1. Mason Green
2. Marcus Rashford
3. Anthony Martial
4. Paul Pogba
5. Bruno Fernandes
6. Harry Maguire

Can I get double points for Pogba if he’s still here in 5 years?

Anyone masochistic enough to nominate Phil Jones should get an extra point if proved correct.

4. Brandon Williams
5. Harry Maguire
6. Scott McTominay

I guess Dean Henderson doesn't meet the criteria of playing at least once for us but I think he'll be our number one in 2025. Additionally, rogue shout but I could see Mata joining the coaching staff (though I'd expect him to leave for Spain, Middle East or MLS before his playing career finishes).

I think we're finally starting to hone in on what we need as opposed to randomly signing big available names, ie. Di Maria, Sanchez etc. We won't see as much ins and outs as Ole fine tunes the squad (though there will be deadwood that slowly, slowly filters out, massive wages hold buyers back). Don't think it's crazy to assume this much will still be here - only Maguire would be over 30.

This obviously banks on the fact that Ole will get most of the 5 years, and if he is replaced he'll be replaced by someone who won't tear the team sheet up and start again

Torn on Martial, Lindelof and James. Though for some reason I have a feeling that they will all be gone.

Williams
Maguire
Wan Bissaka
McTominay
Fernandes
Rashford
Greenwood

1. Martial
2. Maguire
3. Rashford
4. Sancho
5. Greenwood.

Martial would be our undisputed best player by then, Greenwood would be back-up to Sancho and Rashford unless something goes spectacularly wrong, and Maguire will still be club captain and first choice CB.

Sancho has already made an appearance.

Though I'm not too confident about the last 4. One of the attack will leave over the next 5 years and we'll surely bring someone else in, the attack always has transition at big clubs. I can't see it being Rashford or Greenwood, and Sancho will be the new guy this summer, so Martial would be the guy to go (and will be 30).

Everyone else will at some point leave to be starters elsewhere, and replaced by other youth.
