No, my initial point was that I can’ t believe clubs fall for briefs in the press.
OK Got it.
BBC's Simon Stone report proves that there has been a load off nonsense reported this week.
Im sure the clubs don't really fall for it at all, or at least not in these sorts of negotiations. They know what they have done!!
I think its always just bullshit from gutter and tabloid press, who get scraps of 2nd hand information, which they then report as bonafide complete facts.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
Doesn't seem all that difficult tbf, the Tories have done it for years
Yup. He loves to dominate a news cycle does Ed. Yesterday the BBC headline was deadline set. Today it’s we may walk away and very unlikely deal before deadline. Tomorrow we’ll have our game. Thursday will be the next BBC story about us being in hard negotiations before fee agreed on Friday.

What's amazing is how he kept them even after being outed as a bullshitter over and over. Just goes to show you many people don't really care about truth or facts, only what they want to hear.
Fortune tellers, Finance pundits, Tea leaf readers etc. etc. Atleast he's just peddling footy rumors.

Sancho is a huge talent. One question about the whole thing is bugging me, though. Why does no other top club appear to be in for him? It's unusual to see a great talent go uncontested like this.
There's somewhat of a English agenda going on at United, that caters for young upcoming players. Perhaps he wants to be part of that... Maybe he has had other offers.

Nothing is certain yet anyway.

Because even if you get him at a discounted fee, £80m-100m fee plus huge wages is still way over the cash reserves that rich clubs want to spend right now.
Plus City can't spend all that in one go, as they need several players and everyone is now watching their FFP ratios very closely.

I believe this is dead. It's too much money. Dortmund won't budge. It makes sense that the brief is genuine.

I said this last week. Manchester United trust the BBC for leaks. It is obvious though because you can't compare the BBC to some random journalist on Twitter. Its a publicily funded organisation and is more accountable to its audience than twitterati. Anything Stone says, the public will believe it because it is the BBC and trust me if push came to the shove and he was asked to reveal his sources, he exactly has to do that. He works for the BBC and every strory he publishes, 99 per cent it has a verifiable source. I don't want to sound like an Idiot but we here on the Caf like to believe more in what we want to hear rather than the actual truth. Its understandable because we are football fans on an internet forum who want good news for United all the time.
He definitely wouldn’t. Can you imagine if BBC journalists had to reveal their sources simply because they were asked?

City and P$G would be the only other clubs capable of signing him this window and neither of them have a need and in City's case, Pep flat out burried the possibility publicly already after reportedly falling out with him when he left their academy.

Paris on the other hand already have the most expensive triumvirate in world football in Neymar, Mbappe and Icardi and you don't spend around 100m for a benchwarmer...

Dortmund will climb down if we maintain a strong stance. They’re trying to take us for a ride, and who could blame them.

His best 'source' in Dortmund is Haaland senior. The feck would he know?
His best source is likely Zorc himself. I think they’ve got a good friendship. He said as such on Goldbridge’s show yesterday iirc.

It beggars belief how that clown indykalia has accrued over 300k followers on Twitter for being a bullshitter.

Think a lot of it is just banter now. Got to be surely?

I think Real Madrid are after Mbappe. Barca have already spent too much money and are in financial trouble. PSG as it is right now already have a stacked front line. Liverpool don't have the money.

Dortmund need to sell Sancho as much as we need to buy him. No way they will be willing to lose £50m by keeping him another year. It goes against their entire business model and the financial plan they've had for Sancho.

We have no major short term deadline as our front 3 is good enough to start the season. I don't mind if this goes into final week of transfer window. Dortmund execs will shit their pants soon enough.

feck me I thought the people posting we're doomed in the top 4 race thread every time we went 2 minutes without a goal were negative.

Some of the posters in here take the piss.

Give up on Sancho and sign Zaha :houllier:

If we weren't going to do this deal United would have been saving face weeks ago.

If we miss out we come out looking like idiots and there are no good alternatives even out there so this really just seems like posturing.

The brief is essentially a click bait. Before when the deal was still in its infancy, it was "deal close" to get clicks. Now that everyone's reporting it's all but done, the click baiters switched up "deal is falling through..." Got to keep the muppets clicking!

Interesting all these briefs appear when rumours surface about trying to use Champions league trophy and ballon d'or clauses in the deal.

I guess BVB rejected those kind of clauses and Woodward has briefed?

There’s no chance there will be a bidding war next year with 12 months on his contract. All the teams interested will just bid the same low amount and offer loads more in wages. How often do teams actually try and outbid each other, it’s usually the player deciding between a list of clubs.

Thanks for the answers.

The whole deal is one in past you would expect Madrid to go in for (and usual get). But, if they're after Mbappe then I guess there is only so much cash to go about.

This is already done. We did the "Boo hoo asking price is too high!" schpiel with Maguire, Bruno and AWB too and then it was done dealio a couple of days later. If he isn't in Manchester by Friday I'll be very surprised.

This is a complex deal with the size of the fee involved. Obviously we were never gonna turn up on day one and slap 120 million on the table. No one does that.

It will take some time to reach the compromise to get this deal through.

If he only has 12 months left on his contract next year, then Dortmund face the very real prospect of him leaving on a free, especially if a team convince him to just see out his contract.

They probably know this, as do we, hence why were going down the media route yet again. If Sancho had 3 or 4 years on his contract then it'd be a completely different situation, but we're doing what we've tried the past 3 or so transfers, use the media to try and lower the price... will it work? Probably not.

I'm glad I stay away from Twitter. I'll just wait until this transfer is announced officially by United and then I'll go watch all the YouTube videos.

I just lurk here from time to time to keep my inner muppet from fading away completely...

I am fully convinced Ole wants him this summer and will do a lot to get him as soon as possible. Not buying any stuff about waiting another year
