Presume this will make Scott Parker early favourite for Football Writer’s Player of the Year 2020/2021.

I love how these player's celebrate promotion so much. Especially when most of them will just be replaced by new signings and not even get to play in the Premier league next season.

Didn’t follow league at all.
Where they in top 2 for a long time?
Well they went on a 8 game winning streak including beating Fulham away. They had it in their hands to go up in the final two games.. all they needed was 4 points to go up automatically. After West Brom lost at Huddersfield, Brentford lost away at Stoke. Then they had a final chance on last day when it was in West Brom's hands to go up instead but they drew to QPR, so all Brentford had to do was win at home to Barnsley who were in the relegation zone but lost to them anyway! so that's how they ended up in the playoffs.

Every team that loses the play offs must regret not having a go afterwards.
Stings for Brentford big time when you think they completely bottled the final two league games. Thought they'd cracked it again with their performance v Swansea.

Ultimately they're a front foot team, rubbish when they just sit back. Have to say Scott Parker got his gameplan spot on aswell.

Pretty sure in the end Brentford would've gone up with just two draws from Stoke and Barnsley (although in the end West Brom were just happy to play out a draw with QPR when they knew Brentford were losing).

History doesn't favour Brentford and the teams of their ilk, 15 playoffs finals and not one promotion. As they finished higher they had the choice of which kit to wear and they wisely chose their blue away kit :

And Brentford will never wear blue again.. not very wise when it resembles Leicester.

No I meant with the West Brom results Brentford could've played out two draws and got 2nd. They didn't even have to win either of their final two games.

Scott Parker looks like a US comic book character from the 50s. And the name fits too.

Gutted - irony is it was our Chairman that came up with bloody play offs idea way back when. We've promptly go on to fail every single time we have been in them :(

Football eh? Bloody hell.

fecking hell. Sad Brentford lost. That's my free premier League tickets out the window.

Can't believe how they imploded towards the last couple of games.

Leicester, Brentford and Forrest ( ) must feel like they've been relegated.

Come for a game anyway it's a refreshing change from the Premier League and the football we play is easy on the eye - I'll still buy you a pint

If they are replaced, Fulham deserve to go down again next again. Spending £100m on unproven, exotic players from abroad does not work, just ask Villa and QPR. I’m sure Parker knows this though — he was there in 2018-19.

The majority probably have bonuses related to promotion etc.

Crazy, crazy goal to concede for the Brentford goalie. I thought Rico Henry, Brentford's left back, was terrific today. Really fast, good in the tackle, doesn't get beat one v one. He's seems slight, but he was awesome. Perhaps a look in from us?

Thanks for explaining.

Damn that’s a big bottle job. Might be hard to psychologically recover from.

Stoke and Barnsley were by no means in relegation form hence them both surviving.

The Barnsley game was lost as we went all out to win it and were caught in a sucker punch.

Any team with no bottle wouldn't go 8 wins in a row in the Championship.

Last time we lost in the play off finals we got promoted the next season and that was after this debacle:

I heard on an Athletic podcast that Villa had a lot of players on loans, and contracts expiring etc..and really needed to buy for the sake of depth if nothing else. Besides, they stayed up.

Mate - stealing the ball off one club man and Bees legend Kevin O'Connor too :nono:

To be fair to him he came back the following season and helped us get promoted...

Yes but still you lost a year over nothing. Also, Doncaster were playing dreadful dreadful football that season and still won the league due to the breakaway goal they scored.

Sickening.

Still, in his defence, I guess, he was pretty young when it happened

I always questioned why or indeed if this is a 160m match. If true the why not get relagated and go for the 160m again instead of 150m for premiership ?

Trust me it is something I will never forget as a football fan and still haunts me today but it is part of the game we love - massive disappointments and huge highs.

£160 million is the minimum it would've been worth for Brentford. £85 mil in TV money next season (if they finished last in the prem) and then a total of £75 million in parachute payments over the following two seasons.

It's not a £160 million prize for winning the play off final.

Because there's the high possibility that you'll lose half your best players and potentially not make it back? Is the extra hassle worth £10m?

As far as I know it was only Axel and Abraham, and it’s not as if their replacements contributed much to them staying up. Engels, Wesley and Samatta have been shit.

Think they would have come mid-table if they stuck with their 18-19 side, only adding a better striker and cb to replace the loanees. Continuity is so important imo, which is why I don’t want us to replace any of our back 5 next season too, including DDG.
