It's not an easy transfer. Sancho is one of the top talents in the world football and if it were not for Covid he would have costed more and there would have been multiple clubs vying for him. Manchester United clearly don't want to pay upfront fee like they did with Maguire but want to do in installments/fee based on bonus and that part takes time aka Bruno's deal.
Woodward is the problem. He doesn't have the skills needed in transfer negotiations and makes Manchester United look embarrassing and amateurish . Its clear to everyone that he is not good enough for that job yet surprisingly he clings on to it. David Gill wasn't like this. If people are still defending him then we have a big problem because United need to conclude more than 2 deals this summer, and dragging the Sancho deal will impact on the other deals. I feel embarrassed for him especially with what happened with the Harry Maguire deal. Refused to buy him for 60 million and ended up paying 80 million for him. He is not competent and it's about time the club set up a new recruitment team and act like a big club. His transfer dealings are an embarrassment to the club.

Where the grass is greener.
My working theory is that Ed f*cking loves all this drama, keeps us in the headlines and is therefore good for business.
If it ends up with us starting the season with Sancho, no one should be complaining. But honestly I feel like some people get more pleasure out of moaning than they do us being successful.

I know it sounds ridiculous. But judging by what is discussed in shareholders meetings, it seems that is what our board are interested in other than actual footballing trophies.
What exactly was said in that meeting that you came to that conclusion?

What does Woodward have to do with transfer negotiations?

So just because investment has been shambles, it means we are concentrating on business side?

We are not in this position because we completed transfers few days late, it's because we backed wrong managers.
When our investment has been as scattergun in its approach as ours has been then yes. The more I look back on it, the examples are endless of investments made for business purposes over football. Sure the managerial appointments have been bad as well, but the investment has been just as poor and there are examples of them being based on business and finance.

Comparing signing one of the very best talents in the world from a top team, to signing a bloke from a relegated side and a young talent from a side needing to sell. Who needs logic when you can throw a little tantrum.
You're one of the only people with sense in this thread, so many babies :houllier:

We are in a one horse race to sign one of the best players in the world right now with a team that by all accounts need to sell as a result of the pandemic. The club are clearly briefing they'll walk away using the same dead negotiation tactic that didn't work for Harry Maguire at the same time. Who needs logic when you're as incompetent as our board.
In that case why would you jump at the first price quoted? Logic dictates that if you apply a bit of pressure, you could get a better deal.

You've just made the list of people who don't deserve to enjoy Sancho when he arrives, unlucky mate. Shut your eyes.
Seriously. Some of this lot have lost the right to celebrate when he tears it up for us.

He apparently (manutdrumours site don't know if its been mentioned) wanted a move to Chelsea with him being a fan and agent reduced his fee, but they wouldn't pay the overall package.

This is my favorite muppet time. The calm before the storm.

Bonus:
This year there's a lot less traffic in the air, so tracking the flight from Dortmund to Manchester should be a lot easier.
United will be in Germany anyway for the Europa League;)

North-Norway hijacked the thread title I see  hahaha. Fun fact : Far north in Norway many have gotten away with calling the police horse cocks as it is common language so to say.

When it comes to Sancho, I believe BD has lost so much money on the virus situation that they will get a deal done. They buy cheap and sell expensive, so unless they change their methods to have a better chance at winning the league, then I do not see why this deal will not get done.

Came across this from the people's person...think is somewhat believable.

Jadon Sancho to Man United – Why is the press is being manipulated? What happens next?

Date: August 05, 2020
Just as we thought Manchester United were going to pull off a simple and painless transfer, fans were given a big wake-up call last night.
News broke via the normally reliable Fabrizio Romano yesterday afternoon that the Red Devils were very close to a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, with a transfer fee amounting to £90 million plus £18 million in add-ons more-or-less agreed and wages also agreed with the player .

Both sides were reportedly confident of closing a deal by the end of this week.
But then the other shoe dropped. The English press came out virtually en masse at around 9pm yesterday evening to blast these reports out of the water and claim that United are far from a deal and in fact very close to walking away from negotiations.
So what has happened?
One thing we can probably assume is that the 9pm news avalanche last night was a result of some sort of press briefing by the Red Devils. The fact that so many reporters produced the same story at the same time, whilst not absolute proof, is strong evidence of that.

This then begs the question: why would United brief the press at this stage of a delicate negotiation and feed them such negative, pessimistic information about the deal?
This is what one journalist, The Telegraph’s James Ducker, had to say:
‘Manchester United have warned Borussia Dortmund that they are willing to walk away from a move for Jadon Sancho unless the German club lower their exorbitant £108 million demands.

‘The Covid-19 crisis has cost United more than £150m in lost income and expenditure and the club feel Dortmund’s €120m valuation of Sancho is completely unrealistic in the current climate

‘United are prepared to pursue alternative targets unless a reasonable compromise can be reached with Dortmund.
‘United have seen some of the prices paid for players this summer – such as Timo Werner’s £47.5m move from RB Leipzig to Chelsea and Bayern Munich’s £55m capture of Leroy Sane from Manchester City – and believe the pricetag being put on Sancho is entirely unreflective of a much changed market.

‘The club remain hopeful of being able to reach an agreement.
‘But they are adamant they will not be held to ransom, with Dortmund so far refusing to budge from their asking price during the clubs’ early discussions.’
You can almost hear Ed Woodward’s voice can’t you? Our interpretation: tit-for-tat. Romano and German outlets such as Bild have perhaps been fed false information by Dortmund that the deal is closer than is the case in order to put pressure on United’s negotiators to push up and push along.

Why? The news generates hysteria among United fans and all Ed Woodward and chief negotiator Matt Judge can then do is fulfil that expectation or be ripped apart and ridiculed on social media for cocking it up again.
Such tactics would anger Woodward and Judge, who would then use the British media in similar fashion to put the pressure back on Dortmund, shaming them by implying that they have not been willing to negotiate at all.

Last night’s ‘briefing’ (let’s call it that) did not stop there, though. It also ripped the rug from under German feet by trashing their deadline of next Monday – the date that they go to a training camp – as ‘artificial’.
‘With the transfer window open until October 5, United … will also not be bound by any artificial deadlines’ Ducker writes.
There is also a shot across the bow of Sancho’s representatives as well. It has long been reported that personal terms had been agreed, with wages believed to be in the region of £250,000 per week, but the figures Woodward – sorry, The Telegraph – reported last night suggest that the 20-year-old’s agent has been up to some last-minute skulduggery to get a bigger chunk of the pie.

‘Personal terms have yet to be agreed with Sancho and talk of a £340,000-a-week contract is outlandish. Agents’ fees are also potentially a complicating factor,’ Ducker writes.
Almost identical stories were sent out by other highly reputable journalists, including The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Goal’s Charlotte Duncker, BBC’s Simon Stone and The Independent’s Simon Peach.
Where does this all leave us?
Normally, you would say it leaves us where we usually are as Man United fans – set for a long drawn out transfer window. However, there is a different element to this particular case, which is Dortmund’s deadline. The fact that the press were briefed about it yesterday, apparently, means that Woodward and Judge are concerned that the Germans really will stick to their guns and walk away from negotiations if nothing has happened by Monday.

Will United risk that happening and not be rushed, or will they act quickly? That is the $64,000 – or in this case, €120,000,000 question.

At the shareholders meeting before the pandemic became as such, Woodward and the board were talking a majority of the time about our mentions and interactions on social media platforms, at a time when we were well outside the top 4 and in a bleak position and run of fixtures. No hope offered for future investment or indication as to the future direction of the club. That's all that matters to them, it's fairly evident.

I think some were not built for the Internet and the constant refreshing of threads and twitter feeds makes them think 1 day real life is about a week and just gets them more frustrated.

That's investors call, you want them to talk about league position, pressing numbers, clean sheets and Bruno's goals + assists?

Have we crack the JAF's mysterious code yet?
It’s not mysterious code, I cannot fathom why no one understands the tweet?

It’s been common knowledge over the past couple days, United are looking at paying 70 upfront, 30 next year & 20 in 2022

Jesus, how is everyone making a meal out of this tweet?

Calm yourselves down

Well we started Pogba negotiations long before Mourinho joined.
I don’t think he objected but it certainly wasn’t his choice.
And to date, Pogba has delivered more as a marketing asset than as a player.

Jose was desperate to sign Pogba when he was at Chelsea, comparing him to Eiffel tower saying how he can't sign player of that quality/status.

By that logic, any fan who criticises their club does not deserve to enjoy their success.

By the way, I'm not criticising the signing itself, I'm criticising the way it is being handled. If you disagree and think they are handling it perfectly that is you right just as it is mine to say if I think they are handling it wrong.

You tell me, what is his job? If he is in charge of the negotiators, then he is responsible. Unless you are Woodward yourself, it's widely accepted in the football world that ,we have been useless with negotiations since Fergusson and Gill left. Who gave Sanchez and De gea such silly contracts? Who extended Phil Jones's contract given his injury record at United? Who extended Rojo's contract? Who refused to pay 60 million for Maguire and ended up paying 80 million? If you think that is defensible then I can't help you. Woodward is ultimately responsible as CEO and if those he delegates keep making mistake after mistake and he does nothing about it then he is incompetent. I can't believe there are people who defend this guy. He is a joke.

No.

Mourinho wanted to bring Pogba to Chelsea as well, but Juventus weren't interested in selling and Pogba wasn't interested in forcing a move.

No idea why some have decided to believe otherwise

Poor in the sense that we have pissed away a lot money on deals that turned out terrible, sure. But we have spent more money than almost any other team in the Woodward era. The problem has been that we've had very little to show for all the money we've spent on transfers and wages (including several record deals), not that the owners have been penny pinching for "business purposes".
