Look at Fulham’s record, that’s not correct.
Not a typical yoyo club like Norwich and Birmingham in 2000s, if you're coming back up the season after relegation, it's more than likely that they wouldn't have done enough to establish themselves as a constant fixture in the PL

Gotta feel for the goalkeeper. You always expect the taker to aim for the penalty spot there. Not even sure if Bryan meant that?
He meant it - he absolutely hammered that ball. That was intentional. Isn't he guy the who scored against us in the cup some years ago ?

I was keeping an eye on one of the Brentford forums last night, just to see their reaction. I felt sorry for them, I'd have liked to see a different team come up.

A classless Leeds fan came on after the game to troll them and gloat, but he ended up getting more than he bargained for as they posted his sign-up email address.

As far as I know it was only Axel and Abraham, and it’s not as if their replacements contributed much to them staying up. Engels, Wesley and Samatta have been shit.

Think they would have come mid-table if they stuck with their 18-19 side, only adding a better striker and cb to replace the loanees. Continuity is so important imo, which is why I don’t want us to replace any of our back 5 next season too, including DDG.
Samatta has barely been at the club and you already call him shit. Sums it up.

Well he’s not bloody below average to world class is he mate?

But honestly, 2 goals in 16 games at Villa. 1 every 547 minutes. That is very poor imo. Even 7 goals in 20 games in Belgium this season is indefensible for a PL striker. Admittedly, he’s done good in the CL (3 in 6 for the worst team in the group), but that’s about it. He doesn’t even hold it up well.

Anyway, in the interest of not derailing the thread, hope we play Fulham at home first game. One of the only teams who don’t raise their game when they play us. Seem to want to do it to Chelsea and Spurs instead.

Fulham played a blinder last night, solid at the back, Hector was a rock, closed down the space for the Brentford wide overloads, and looked to take the sting out of any Brentford pressure by keeping possession.
The only issue I see with Fulham in the premiership is their lack of wanting to counter attack, they seem to want to build up every attack from the back rather then go back to front quickly, happened a few times last night, had 3 v 3's but rather than carry the attack on they stopped and passed the ball back, they will find goals hard to come by doing that in the premiership.
Still, the best team won last night.

In any case, ruling a player out after half a season is presumptious. And even if he were poor, the argument is then about spending better, not avoiding spending at all.
Also, I think it's around 22 players that had left the club after they got promoted. I'd say they had to spend.

Feel sorry for Brentford. They blew automatic promotion and now lost the playoffs in ET. Fulham and West Brom are as dull as it gets for the PL, it would have been nice to have a new name. Can't see Fulham staying up long either, they don't score much and their defence is fairly average.

Normally I’d be for Brentford but their manager is a bit of a smug dick so I‘m happy they failed.

Why was mitrovich on the bench?
Hamstring injury, he had missed the previous playoff matches.

And if some firepower isn’t signed in midfield or up front it’s going to be a long hard season for him up front for Fulham next year.

Team will get raided and they will struggle to stay a top-10 team next year. Sour taste especially as a dane, wanting a countryman to succeed as a manager, on the foreign stage for once. Alas, we still have Laudrup's League Cup in 2013 :boring:

Because there's the high possibility that you'll lose half your best players and potentially not make it back? Is the extra hassle worth £10m?
It was a little tongue in cheek. A team could get promoted, buy no players, get relegated then yoyo up and down for 150m each time.

Still not sure where this massive figure comes from either?

£160 million is the minimum it would've been worth for Brentford. £85 mil in TV money next season (if they finished last in the prem) and then a total of £75 million in parachute payments over the following two seasons.

It's not a £160 million prize for winning the play off final.
Aah ok. but the parachute payments are if they get relegated no?

Yes.

If they don't get relegated they get more (depending on where they finish in the league, at least £90 million per season).

You get more money for staying in the premier league than you do going up and down.

£160m is the minimum it would have been worth to Brentford.

Fulham will come 20th next season you feel. Brentford would have offered a bit more interest with their flair players and being new.

Never mind.

Fulham were the better team on the day and fully deserved to go up. The first goal was great, really quick thinking and perfect execution. The keepers bizarre dive made it look comical, but it was a great piece of invention that the likes of Henry would have been proud of.

Better luck next time to Brentford, but Fulham held their nerve, defended well and had that bit of magic that’s needed in a tight game.

I am very interested to see how Parker gets on in the PL
