Played really well tonight, easily the best player in the first half. Not sure why Scholes lumped him in with Lingard and saying Old was getting rid of him. Was miles ahead of McT.

Scholes is my all time favourite player but he really does speak some shite. We're not selling Fred.

Fairly decent performance from Fred tonight. Expect it to go under the radar. Signs of him getting his mojo back.

Clearly Ole doesn't rate him and irrespective of how he plays, he is way down the pecking order.....

Played well, and made some brilliant incisive long passes that cut LASK in half.

Yeah, that was complete bollocks. I really dont understand these ex-pro's sometimes. Do they see a different game or are we missing everything?

Best United player in the 1st half without any doubt. Needs more games to bring back his top form.

I think people underestimate the position he's playing in. Its much easier for him and more effortless when he plays on the left side of the double pivot. Mctominay is also better on the right side

I do think they see some things differently than us, but not all pros get everything right, just because they were pros

Nah I think its because he looked off the pace whenever he came on, post covid
...yet he keeps Scott on when clearly Fred was having a better game. Scott's also played more than him since lockdown. Ole was forced to play Fred due to injuries and since then reverted back behind Scott and others. Crazy when you think that Fred was in the running for POTS.....

I didn't see anything strange in that sub tbh, it was either tactical or he was fading.

Maybe but if Fred and Scott are on the pitch at the same time, it's always Fred and rarely Scott that comes off first. I don't think it's even an argument that he prefers Scott over Fred.

McTominay is the DM, Fred is the box to box CM and shares the same role as Pogba who was coming on to replace him.
This was probably the idea but Ole does favour Mctominay over. I also don't think there's any risk playing Fred as DM in the game. He played that role very well when he came in for Matic against Bournemouth

Maybe but Fred could have gone DM when Pogs came on. Scott was playing that poorly and it's not like there was that much to lose from the change given the opposition. He put Chong on as LB for crying sake....

After not a great start (like the team as a whole) he settled well, and was probably the most solid player, after Bailly and Maguire before he came off. Disappointed with that decision.

I'd imagine Ole feels Scott perhaps has a higher ceiling and could eventually become a real leader, maybe as a defensive midfielder. But he's still young and has a long way to go. Where as with Fred, he's more or less in his prime now and Ole know's his ceiling. He's a great player but without too many goals and assists in his game, I don't think anyone would offer more than 25 million for him if we were to sell, so I guess Ole will keep him and use him sparingly. Handy squad player to have

I think Mctominay is Ole's guy and Fred suffers for it. Fred is easily the better player
This. Fred is simply better but Ole see him as Pogba replacement when in reality they are nothing like and should be playing together with Pogba allowed the freedom to go forward.

.It's very alarming the club considers Mctominay as a DM over players like Fred

Thought Fred had a decent game, his passing was quite good. A bit unlucky to come off instead of Scott.

Like I said in my previous, a case of the Herreras.

Underlooked and underused. Baffling.
Gotta revert back to the 433. Those were the days players like him and Herrera shined. Problem is that one of Pogba/Fernandes would have to be dropped to make it work.

Fred seems to have a higher ceiling to me given his superior natural abilities.

Fred unlucky Ole prefers Scott. He would have stayed on the whole game while Scott who was pretty bad should have been taken off instead.

What higher ceiling? He's already 27 y.o. He's as good as you get now.
He improved rapidly between the last 2 seasons. Sometimes it's about showcasing your abilities more than nurturing talent. And I'm not sure Mctominay can put on those level of peformances, is my point, due to not having the technical abilities. He has other abilities but like i alluded earlier, this isn't linear narrative where 23 year old at level 79 will end up being better than 27 year old at level 83. The former actually has to have the qualities to make those strides and the latter should also be showing their very best right now.

Ok. Sorry I misunderstood. I'm not too sure I can agree with this ceiling thing between the two, but I can see why people can see it that way.
If it were up to me, I'd sell Fred to get a DM. I'd give McTom another year or two, then ship him off if he doesn't progress well.

Some very decent passes in the first half otherwise I think he was atrocious. Very little composure, awareness and some of his passes are criminal.

Agree that was Scott but what about Fred?
