I kind of do see the board's side on this. At the same time we're saying that all clubs are hit hard by the virus and will likely be hit harder next season at this rate, we want to spend a club record on a young attacker from Dortmund.
Some will also likely recall the last two attackers we bought from Dortmund.
If this were any other scenario, I'd expect a compromise between the two parties. BVB can say they don't want to sell and he's a lovely lad and hey look over here we all the cards - but - he will eventually leave and I'm not sure his stock can rise any higher. Plus, Covid could well stop audiences next season too, in which case their revenues are going to get significantly hit. At that stage, the, say, 80m from United would look seriously attractive. And is his presence going to really change their outcomes that much? Second best team in the league and unlikely - even with him - to be first imo. They'll be in the CL, so no delta on funds there either. And they've bought some expensive players recently presumably on high wages.
It really feels like a win-win for both clubs to get this done, so it will happen. Given our track record, I can see why BVB hope they can get whatever they ask, but I can also see why our board wouldn't want to just cave to that.
