There's a slight flaw in the theory. How can the white smoke over Old Trafford be the Sancho unveiling video when he's at training with Dortmund?

After Sancho I’d be happy for us to bring in a £20-£30 million holding midfielder that can alternate with Matic. He doesn’t have to be a superstar, just someone that can play the role adequately so that Matic is not run into the ground.

If Smalling is staying, then the search for a new CB can wait until next summer imo.

It would be great to bring in another LB though.

The rumours going into this window was four in and six out. Hopefully there is some truth to that though.
Every summer there's this huge turnover predicted.
Never happens. Especially not in a much shorter break where we're still playing games.

Maguire did not propel us to 3rd in the League, Bruno on the other hand. . .

Being an upgrade on the Chuckle Brotgers & Rojo doesn’t make him Jaap Stam.

Him being overpriced & an upgrade can both be true.
Our goals conceded is not that different to City and Liverpool. Goals scored on the other hand there is a massive gap. If Sancho helps us score more goals we will be closer to competing with the top 2

To me that is a fatal mistake. Getting a centreback should almost be just as important as Sancho, if not more.

In my humble opinion, getting a top class partner for Maguire will make us one of the best defences in Europe. I like lindelof as much as the next person, but he is the weak link right now. He is prone to errors and gets bullied by bigger strikers.

A title winning team is built from the back. Just ask pep who spent 400m+

If we can sell Rojo, Jones and Smalling for decent money, that could help fund getting a top class CB. Unless of course, OGS is sentimental and wants to give Axel a chance. Huge gamble.
Wouldn't listen to him. He just likes the attention.

Sancho will not be our only signing.

There needs to be a clear health warning on this thread if this deal isn't done today.

I'd rather RW > GK > CB > CDM

With Smalling coming back and Mengi starting to get a game for the senior squad I don’t think we’ll be buying a centre back. It’s clear that Jones and Rojo aren’t wanted and will be given to anyone that’ll take them but Maguire, Lindelof, Smalling, Bailly when fit, Tuanzebe and Mengi is us well stocked at centre back.

I’d be surprised if we didn’t go for a defensive midfielder if we get Sancho done in the next week or two with the window open til October unless Garner is going to be given a proper first team run of games next season and Ole is hoping he’ll do something similar to Greenwood this season or at the very least similar to Williams.
Can only see Bruno cover as the other signing this summer, don't see us looking at a DM until Ole has tried out his McTominay experiment in that position first.

I’ve been saying for months, we’ll sign him in the last week of the window for his original asking price, after trying to haggle it down all window. And we’ll sign nobody else.

Ah, another ITK, I presume? The tea leaves told me this as well. As did my horoscope.

Obviously they (the horoscope people) failed to mention that the new love interest will "come on the scene" on the 7th of August at 7 PM GMT, but reading between the lines (as you should with horoscopes), it's obvious they just forgot about it.
Whipped out the tarot cards, went to a gypsey fortune teller and passed an all seeing prophet on my way back walking past the bellowing smoke coming from OT. Coincidence that they all say the same thing? I THINK NOT.

Tier 1.

Sancho may be our only “big name signing”. Perhaps, the likes of Badiashile/Gabriel or VDB are not classified as “big name targets”.
Yeah rules out Grealish well at least for this summer anyway

They start training on the 10th. Hence the 'deadline'. To be honest I'm naively optimistic the 10th will come and Sancho won't be there or 'personal reasons'.
Dortmund have already started training, that is just their "training camp" where they fly to switzerland and play some mini games etc.

Do you not think Henderson deserves competing for no.1 spot? With him de gea and Romero on the books I can’t see us signing a new keeper as any sort of priority.
Not competing, no. He deserves the spot.

It is no loss if he isn't good enough for us next season and we replace him anyway. As opposed to either playing and replacing DDG next summer or keeping both and having to still do that next summer.

If people are already crying out over Dortmund's 120m valuation for Sancho, can only imagine the outcry if the club were to stump up 80m for Grealish

Yeah I have accepted that we will now go for a cheaper option than Jack. Now I am quite gutted they didn't go down after all

I've lost some respect for Dortmund recently honestly, I never thought so much about them as a club, buying a player a few or two before they sell them on for huge money.

Dembele and Sancho especially, as much as there's postering from the club according to Raphael Honigstein saying they knew Sancho would join only for a few years and they expected him to leave.

Not a big fan of their policies.

I think the whole Sancho taking the number 7 shirt and being revealed/signed on the 7th is too good to be true. It's a muppet's fantasy. The stars don't align for us that easily.

I love how we're all reduced to looking at images of smoke over Old Trafford. This is what the transfer window does to us.

Just so you're all in the know.

The journalists are quite quiet at the moment as they are finishing up their breaking news pieces to be published at 7pm tonight.
I know you are only messing with us but appreciate you trying to raise muppet spirits today

In fairness, even before this window, since Jan 2019, we've seen the departures of Fellaini, Herrera, Valencia, Young, Lukaku, Alexis, Darmian and Smalling (including loans). That's 8 in total. 8 players who were very much first-teamers that the forum saw as deadwood and should be seen as quite some turnover. I don't think we'll see more than 3-4 more depart this window, as we do need some manner of depth and cover. That said, how much more "deadwood" would we have if we saw 4 more players leave?

Sancho-Rash-Mart looks promising, but when i look at the back and see that wrestler Maguire orchestrating the defence, there no future with that guy and he is overhyped asf...
100kg defender, maybe for NFL

What are you nuts? You want the guy to be underweight? :houllier:
Just quit this forum now, you’ll never make it.
