In an article today, FC Copenhagen's Daramy says that he has been a United fan since he was 5 years old. And he especially looks up to Rashford. Daramy is 18 years old and a great talent. He's the only one from their squad I'd like to see at United. He is, in my opinion, better than both Gomes and Chong

Has Eriksen improved at Inter? His last year with Spurs he was average at best.
He had a good start but been benched mainly.

I'm talking passed history of Eriksen being class mainly, obviously I wouldn't swap him for Bruno now.

    Brozovic is better than Matic

Eriksen is on a similar tier to Fernandes/Pogba IMO

Martinez has done it in the CL also.

The PL isn't the highest level ever, we've seen that with Bayern dismantling a Chelsea side with ease.
Celtic once won against Pep's Barca. Therefore the SPL must be on a similar level to the spanish league.

Knock out games throw up surprises. Norwich were dire all season but made if very difficult for us in the FA Cup so I expect no less here. People putting our name on the Europa make me wonder. If we end up playing Inter, one might imagine a few players on their team being quite motivated. So yes, 3 games, we might do it but if the cup-tie mood is evident in all games, anything could happen. One step at a time, use the best players, I'm not counting on anything being simple from here.

Should go full strength in this. We couldn't have asked for a better QF draw and we have a huge chance at winning EL. People can say it's minor trophy or not but it's European and a trophy will be important to many of our players and Ole too, beside I hate the idea of going 3 seasons in a row trophyless. We won nothing last 2 years so I want to celebrate something big.

All that "Minor" trophy talk is so irritating isn't it.
If it was only about the league and Champions league then all but a tiny handful of clubs might as well not bother each year.
The winners of the league cup and fa cup generally being big clubs most years, show that all cups are worthwhile.

This cup and 3rd is a superb move forward.

It's a prestigious trophy when all is said and done. It would be great for Olé to win it and for the team.
Play our best and get it done.

    Of course it is.

Sir Alex Ferguson's first trophy with us was the FA Cup. You can't expect to instill a winning mentality without winning a trophy first, any trophy. We'd have to beat some pretty impressive European teams so it would definitely be a triumph worth celebrating.

We definitely need to meet and beat hopefully Sevilla and Inter and then it will be satisfying. Because we can meet both teams in the CL too, so it’s a first step.

We’d be one of only 2 teams to win a European trophy this season (not counting super cup).

I wonder how people would feel if they were around when we beat Barca in Rotterdam. If we get Sevilla then Inter it’s hardly Ragball Rovers and the Dog & Duck is it.

    some feckers are really joyless

It' a comparison of goals scored - you sound like a Tory MP. Serie A hasn't suddenly become Ligue 1. You simply dismissed Inter as not being a challenge
True, it took around 9/10 years.

Eriksen Martinez and Brozovic would walk into our team though, so that says something too
Martinez is pure 9 and he isn't better than Martial. Would take Brozovic, Skriniar for sure. They would improve our team but it's very hard to compare as they play with wingback system.

If Martial had been on penalties for united, he would have scored twenty league goals or more even. Who was Liverpool’s top scorer this season, how many goals did he score, and was he on penalties this season?
No idea about Liverpool.... other than the fact that (a I said about us in '99) they have enough players scoring a good quota of goals. "If Martial was on penalties"... and if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a truck :D

Honestly I've had a look at Lukaku goals and general play this season. Mason would have scored 40+ goals against that level of competition.
which is why I have said for months that Mason should be our CF... but Lukaku's strike rate for us wasn't exactly awful

No but we have 3 who have scored rather a lot between them which shows we have a pretty decent forward line. :wenger:

Not forgetting a midfielder who's done rather well:smirk:
to be fair, they did well since the restart bu not enough throughout the season, so making reaching the top four a struggle. I was talking about what we ned to mount a sustained challenge (we were out of the top two by October)

Nope it’s just become worse. The current Juve team with one of the best players ever are awful and have just toiled horrendously against Lyon and lost, yet they won the league. With 83 points. Inter are really inconsistent and would have lost to Getafe on another night too. Only Atalanta are really noteworthy. At least Ligue 1 have one top team.

About Lukaku, Martial and Rashford have outscored his United tally in either season and would have done so outright if neither were out for two months. If you want a straight comparison on goals scored, then Ings is a better striker than Aguero.
No, the comparison I want (and was clearly making) was with former United (main) strikers which is why I mentioned RvN and RvP. Neither Rashford nor Martial are natural goal scorers like then (or for that matter Rooney)

What’s a fairer comparison 2 players in different leagues or 2 players on the same team in the same league a year apart?

Lukaku was a complete failure at Utd, scoring 12 league goals last season. The PL is clearly a lot better and more competitive than Italy.
Yes, you can only score goals where you are playing and Lukaku's early record was good when he was the main man up front and knew he was. And, to answer your question, different seasons are as different as different leagues...

Until Bruno came in February who has Martial had to provide? Also not forgetting both Rashford and Martial were out for months at a time. Lukaku got no way near the season Martial just had for us.
The injury part is true, but if Martial had no one providing, who the hell did Lukaku have? And Lukaku's first season tally wasn't that bad, before he was somewhat left in limbo. And I still thin he's more of a natural goal-scorer and certainly - as far a I can remember - didn't mis the sort of chances Martial can miss...

You don’t actually believe that do you...Martial is not only a miles better finisher he’s an absolutely massively better player, I’d worry for you if you can’t see that.

Any sane person would take Martial over 1 goal in 23 appearances against the top 6.

We all know Lukaku is a flat track bully, and even then his record is distinctly average. 12 league goals in his last season at Utd, 16 the year before. I don’t imagine a single Utd fan doesn’t celebrate the fact that he’s gone. Doesn’t have the mentality to be at a big club. Looks like he’s found his level.

Sort of agree. But he got 28 goals in his first season. People are dancing some weird celebration gig at Martial hitting 23 which is his highest by miles.

Rashford can be profligate, but I’d absolutely argue otherwise for Martial. His finishing is outstanding and his positioning is improving. Always there to score. He’ll probably never reach RvN or RvP’s level of striker, but he doesn’t have to in order to develop into a league winning forward.

The lack of excitement for this game is surprising. We're three games away from a trophy but most of the forum is camped in the Sancho thread
