Shaw is great but his fitness is a joke and he's the only proper attacking fullback we have. We simply have to sign a new LB. Telles, Grimaldo and Lewis top picks for me.

People who said we dont need a left footed full back - just come forward and reevaluate the options.

Shaw can't stay fit. There are lot of options available now and we should just take it. Williams can move to right.

Telles, Lewis, ajax left back - all could be available as little as 20m.

Is there an obvious choice out of Telles, Grimaldo and Tagliafico? Or are they all pretty close in terms of ability?

On a side note- can we finally loan out Dalit? He has to play and many spoke very highly of his future. Even a championship side imo

Grimaldo is the best of those three but he'd be very expensive. Telles would probably be the best value LB signing we could get at the moment.

I like Lewis and we have always had an NI connection at United. He would be the one. Use any money we get for Smalling and bring him in.

15-16 million plus a few add ons would probably do it.

We need another option there, definitely. I like Luke Shaw but when it's touch and go whether he'll play more than 30 games a season that's a concern.

Williams has looked limited going forward for a while but tonight he didn't look great defensively either, got roasted a couple of times. I don't think we'll get one until at least next summer though, Solskjaer seems to be a big fan of Williams.
He had a bit of a stinker to be honest, terrible going forward and awful at defending. United need a better back up for Shaw, our width last night was none existen, both fullbacks had loads of space and just kept passing it into the congested areas.

Now that's Telles, Reguilon, Lewis all available for 20-25m .

we surely can't miss this opportunity?

We really should have pushed for Saka before he signed his new deal. Absolute class. All this ‘Williams is okay as a back up’ thing doesn’t wash with me. He isn’t a back up. When you are second to a player like Luke Shaw, over a good period of time, you are practically the first choice.

Again, did any of you suggesting Lewis watch him at all this season? Struggled mightily, was dropped from an awful Norwich side in favour of right footed Sam Byram, only won his place back when Byram suffered a season ending injury.

We should not settle for someone who has no success at top level for a high sum of 20 million.

I know its a bit left field (no pun intended) but I always liked Joe Bryan. I dont think we need a replacement for Shaw but someone as cover that can provide a more attcking threat would be a good asset to the squad

Liverpool seem to be signing a 24 year old Greek LB for a reasonable fee. From the highlights, he looks an interesting player. Got a lot of pace and drive about him and a good cross too. Don't know why we aren't able to identify such opportunities (if he's rubbish l never said this). That's how you spend within your limits.

What about that young player Nuno that the sporting poster was telling the caf about? Seems to be quite a talent. I'm wary of overhyped fullbacks. Dalot and Darmian have scarred me. Jose thought the former was one of the best talents around and the latter was nailed on to be a top RB as per the caf.

Sell Dalot, TFM, get Max Aarons.

I definitely got no idea who I want for LB though.

Álex Grimaldo - currently injured with 'Unknown Injury'. His injury record shows 11 injuries which, in total, cut 653 lost days from his potential playing time.

Lucas Digne, followed by Nicolas Tagliafico for me. I imagine they'll want silly money for Digne, so Tagliafico. Telles is more attacking / less defensively solid. Sergio Reguilon just behind those 3. Even someone like: Pervis Estupiñán, Renan Lodi, Nuno Mendes should be considered if Tagliafico / Telles / Digne / Reguilon aren't available. Mendes, at 18, is a prospect only.

Stanley N'Soki, plays for Nice, Ligue 1. 21 years old. Good defensive game. Excellent ball retension. About as likely to take a player on as AWB.

Williams was great against Copenhagen and will grow into the role. Shaw still good enough.

Strengthen other areas IMO.

Think people are being harsh on Shaw, is his injury record even that bad? He’s twisted his ankle (ligament damage) how is that remotely his fault and how does that constitute being injury prone. I think Shaw is pretty reliable and hes a very underrated player. Williams is also a decent backup. I think RB is a bigger concern with AWB really struggling to get to grips with his play on the ball.

Missed the boat on that one when Arsenal bought him, doubt they'd ever sell to us unless it was for a crazy fee. He looks quality though.
Indeed, he is brilliant. I imagine teams were concerned by his injuries from the past two years, but he now appears to be fully recovered and he was superb for Arsenal.

Sell Dalot and Fosuh Mensah thats £20m odd. Buy Nuno Mendes £30-35m

Fully agree. We need to be thinking about strengthening our starting XI first (RW, CB, DM) rather than worrying about Shaw's cover. Williams is still only 19 and, considering his age, has done quite well for us -- ridiculous to consider giving up on him already.

I wouldn't think of a new LB as cover for Shaw but a potential competition, someone who is perhaps better attacking wise. As you saw Williams is only 19, he doesn't need United to keep a gap in the LB position for 2-3 years while he is still growing his game.

If he were on the market, what kind of teams do you think would be interested? Even as cover. With a perennially injured Shaw as first choice, our ‘back up’ needs to be better than Williams. Either that or sell Shaw and get a new first choice and let Williams continue in this back-up role.

Noone is giving up on him. He can move to right and challenge AWB . We need a left footed FB to play with Rashford and thats not Williams.

More than happy with our left back options. I’m not saying it can’t be improved, but other areas are far more of a priority, and at this time we have a solid first team left back and a very decent back up.

I watch a moderate amount of Scottish football and Borna Barisic could be a decent punt.. Wouldn't have to pay much more than 15-20 million either I'd guess
Tierney came from the spl and has slotted in with ease... I can see Barisic doing the same

He is really not good. Massive defensive deficiencies that get covered by Parker's extremely negative tactics.

I'll cry if he goes somewhere for anything close to that and Chelsea spend £50m on Chilwell.
50m for Chilwell? You’re having a laugh mate if you think you can get him that cheap. That deal has Maguire money written all over it if you go for him this summer.
