I won the Champions League with my local team Tromsø  Cannot believe it. Took me 15 years but got there in the end. I even got to sub in the only player I’ve kept since I started the game, a guy who was 20 at the time but is now 34. I’ve even played against him in real life so it was fun to sub him in in the 90th minute.

The group was really easy, Porto, Marseille and Anderlecht. I won the group 3 points ahead of Porto. Then I got really unlucky in the first knockout stage when I drew Chelsea, but I actually beat them 4-0 on aggregate. Quarter finals was against Man Utd who lost the two previous CL finals. I barely got through, beating them 3-2 on aggregate with a strong 2-1 win at home. Semis was against Arsenal who won the CL last season. I lost 1-2 at home but won 1-3 away so won 4-3 on aggregate. Couldn’t believe it. The final was against West Ham who finished below Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea in the league so I was favourites to win. I probably spend half an hour yesterday and today analyzing them so I was very well prepared. It was an easy game, they had just one chance on a set-piece and I won 2-0 comfortably. I was so nervous though. I’ve played CM/FM since I was around 7/8 years old, I’m now 23 and this is by far my greatest CM/FM achievement ever. I even dressed up in a suit and played the CL anthem in the background to make some hilarious snapchat videos for my friends.

My team is actually that good, I reckon it’s the best team (or at least starting XI, my squad depth is terrible) in the game which has been difficult to achieve as my wage budget is only around a million pounds a week.

Edit: Went to the store and bought myself a bottle of Champagne. Fully deserved.

This you?

Chelsea, United, Arsenal.... West Ham. I hate CL runs like that - give me teams from different leagues, give me some variety. It's even worse when all you get is domestic rivals.

Congrats and shame on you for not posting the video. You should love us more than reddit.

Haha yeah I was going to post the reddit link on here, you got a lot more written about it though :)
Would be nice with a bit more variety in the knockout stages, but I’m just happy I was up against West Ham and not PSG for instance in the final.

I started a lower league save with Swindon this week and brought in a load of free agents in for trials because apparently we can't scout any further away than Chippenham. One of them has turned out to be an absolute superstar!

I had to upset my wage bill a bit to land him but I think he's going to be worth it. We're 7 from 7 in the league so far, with 17 scored and 2 against. This lad has taken six freekicks - four have gone in and the other two hit the bar!

This is where Zeki Fryers ended up as well - he's found his level and is actually doing alright with 2 goals and 2 assists so far.

Used a database to start the season in June 2020 with mostly accurate competition winners and relegations. All transfers up to date too.

Started at Bristol City. Think I've had a pretty good transfer window! Obviously heavily reliant on loans but I couldn't really turn down Martinelli, Nketiah, Garcia and Guendouzi. Improved the squad in other areas too and ended up with a net profit. Cidoncha is apparently my best player and I picked him up from Kerala in India for 75k. Will see how it translates on the pitch though.

Almost forgot to update you all on my game. I managed to achieve promotion to league 2 but via the play offs. Despite getting over 100 points, it was a very competitive season amongst the top teams in the VNL, but I managed to get into the playoff semi and then the final, with the former being a comeback win from 1 nil down, with my fullback scoring his first goal after I went 3-4-3 very attacking. More on him later. The final was a much more comfortable affair, controlled the game, and won 2-0.

I lost my main left-winger (in real life current manchester united under -16 winger) Deiji Sotona to Middlesbrough but then he was sent on loan to a rival league 2 team, so I could have kept him, oh well. I replaced with him a player I wanted to play in that position but he's mainly played false 9 and has already scored almost as close to his number of goals last season, which was ten. I also have more competition in the centre of the park with a new DLP who is awesome, and a new right winger, and number 10 who is young and still finding his feet. He was much better in the VNL where he scored against me! Currently in the play off spots, but it's early days and I might drop off big time. I might get promoted which would help the finances a great deal, especially after I got knocked out of the carabao cup 4-1 by Leyton orient, though I did get my revenge.

As for my right back, he's continued his scoring form (for a fullback) and has netted two goals with long range efforts cutting in on the right (though he's right-footed, but oh well), fantastic! We're looking in goodshape, and I reckon I won't need too many reinforcements come promotion, if it happens.

I decided to have a game where I tried to make the wages as high as humanly possible to crush a clubs finances, no real reason, just wanted to see how out of control the 'match highest earner' and other contract tidbits could get it to go. I've used Liverpool.....

They are a brutal team, because I'm also using it as a reason to play absolutely wild tactics.

Very Attacking, Ultra Pressing, Hard Tackling and Tight Marking on everyone 1CB-2WB-1DM-3CM-3ST..... they absolutely smashed everyone to start the season. Scored in like 4 straight games in the first minute too. Are they essentially the most overpowered team since Roma CM01/02....

PS - wages are at 22m per week....with a lot of players now sold and in the championship because I decided to not register the first team for the league after the first January and holiday it. But those first 8 game or so, they were mega - might actually see how that tactic works out on a new save, full season.

Nketiah has clearly been a good loan. Martinelli has been dog shit though, always injured.

Absolute state of this prick. He's been injured basically the entire season. Every single time I bring him slowly back in he goes off injured, never seen anything like it.

Decided to purchase the mobile version for £9. Haven't got the time to get through the pc game anymore sadly (even in lockdown) but really the mobile game. I'm four weeks in and already completed my fourth season with Barnet. First season in the conference we got promoted in the play offs having just missed the automatic promotion on the last day. Second season we finished 12th in league two. Third season we just missed the play offs. Now we did make the play offs and got to the final but lost in extra time to Ipswich.

My dealings after being promoted with Bristol. Had to be quite shrewd with most of the deals but happy with them.

Best result of my short manager career so far. First season in the Prem and we're 6th after 14 games. Kishna on a free was an absolute bargain.

Haven't played a football manager game in about 20 years but had the itch for it lately so picked up a FM20 steam key for 15 quid to give it a go, after spending a bit of time getting used to the interface and how things work gotta say it is super good. I like how it's not just little dots going up and down the pitch now (not sure/don't remember if the option was there or not when I played it 2 decades back) but very satisfying when things work out.

Haha @Macern that's something I'd do ngl

First game in the Europa League  Boadu with a first half double hat-trick. Great £23m spent there.

Ok, will wait. But my question is - how's the game in mobile ?
I play the mobile version, I love it. It feels more like the earlier championship manager games but with added depth. Transfers are really well done, tactics can be as simple or in depth as you want, and it doesn't take too long to finish a season.

The 2020 mobile version is the best yet, if you want a more in depth game then SI have released FM touch which is like a cut down version of the main game, however this is expensive and best played on tablets.

Excellent, much appreciated. Definitely getting the mobile version then. Not exactly using any tablet so will go for this.

Thanks again mate.

Downloaded a 20-21 update for this online. Tried to keep it realistic for the first transfer window.

Signed
Reguilon (loan - no fee)
Sancho (£60m-£90m in add-ons)
Milinkovic - CB from Fiorentina (£45m) - deadline day panic buy after Upamecano rejected me. He’s Serbian so naturally I gave him the #15 shirt.

Sold
Smalling (£35m - Chinese team)
Lingard (£15m - Lyon)
Pereira (£18m - Palace)
TFM (£6.5m - Wolfsburg)
Rojo - (£2.5m - Middle Eastern team)
Tuanzebe - (loan - Wolfsburg)
Dalot - (loan - Schalke)

Happy with the prices I got overall as it gave me a good budget for a CB, should have probably got a bit more for Lingard, but we got more than expected for Smalling so it evened out. Tried to shift Grant, Jones & Mata to no avail. Also considered bringing in Justin Kluivert as a backup winger as he was available for £12m & has much better stats than James, but James kept rejecting loan moves so decided against it.

Starting 11
De Gea
AWB Milinkovic Maguire Reguilon
Pogba Matic
Sancho Bruno Rashford
Martial

Second 11
Henderson
Williams Bailly Lindelof Shaw
McTominay Fred
Greenwood/Mata Van de Beek James
Greenwood/Ighalo

You loan one player in your first season and fecking 5 years later it's still "Player excited ahead of manager reunion". Like mate I literally don't even remember anything from your time with me, I think you played twice as emergency left-back cover.

Any opinions on AI this year?

I’m a few years into a random save with Brentford and finding that United, Liverpool, and City - but especially United - are just hoovering up obvious stars on ridiculous money. This is wrecking the game in two ways: the other teams throughout Europe are not replacing these stars; and the league is now a top 5 (United, Liverpool, mancity, Chelsea, and me Brentford) that are so far ahead. (And my team is not in this because I’m fantastic but I believe the game also helps players to keep them addicted, I mean interested).

Anyone else finding this?

I’m playing on FM19 and it’s the same. Second season and United bought Cavani, Benzema and Belotti. Benzema barely played as did belotti. So United thought feck it, let’s sign Dybala.

Rashford and martial are still there

It never used to be this bad, I have FM17 running and the AI doesnt seem to do this as badly

I find I have to edit La Liga budgets because the teams end up unable to compete. They all end up in the red apart from Real Madrid. I bumped up the prize money to keep them in the mix.

The match engine is dog shit and everyone knows it.

If your player goes in a mazy run, he will miss. If he crosses it in, you will score.

"It's his first goal of the season!" for so many goals against you, in like March/April time.

Too predictable.

Two weeks in to my first save now and have completed the season with none other than United.

There wasn't much activity in the starting transfer window. I began searching for quality on the right wing and I tested the waters with Dortmund on Sancho - lo and behold - they are as wankerish in the game as they are in real life quoting something insane in the region of 150-200m iirc. Yeah, feck em. Moving on I picked up Justin Kluivert for £14.5 and he quickly proves to be a bargain starter on the RW with his direct pace and trickery. To address our shit midfield depth [quality-wise] I went after our very own VdB to rotate with Pogba and Bruno but the virtual dickhead rejects me after Ajax accepted a £34m bid:(hoping for PSG to come in for him or something. I opted to start the season with the rest of the squad as is, such was the pain and embarassment.

Won all the friendlies bar one in the final game before the start of the season so I went in confident playing a 4231 system.

By the start of November I'm hanging around the top four sitting in 2nd or 3rd with 8 wins and 2 losses; the first loss being against Bournemouth [peppered their goal but they got a set piece + a counter attack] and second against my bogey team Wolves [who are just terribly frustrating to play against]. After starting the month within a win, I'm now up against Chelsea - who are also in the top 4 - and it's been a tough game with things really shaky so I'm making subs and changing tactically trying to settle it all down. I get the game to 1-1 and make my final available sub at 60 minutes.. Of course at minute 61 Wan Bissaka is going to pull up with a pulled muscle and I'm playing the rest of the game with 10 men  I lose 2-1. This was significant result as I drew with City the very next game, allowing Chelsea and Liverpool to get ahead leaving me chasing the pack for pretty much the rest of the season.

The December run-in exposed my shit midfield cover so I went back in for VdB who - with a couple promises to improve the team and win some sort of silverware the year after - decided to make the switch. He declared it was the best move for him and his family..."financially" prick. Fortunately he trained well a couple weeks later and was instrumental for the second half of the season. Sold Mata to Leicester for £15 as he was quite shit when I needed him.

I often felt vulnerable to the counter attack with the 4231 so switched to a 433 [4141 dm] and played around with tactics and instruction throughout the season searching for better balance. Shots per game was often good but either quality of chances weren't great or my forwards couldn't hit a barn door. Which got my attention to the training schedule and coaches. I noticed If you leave the schedule alone it often gets fecked up with fixture changes so kept an eye on it and moved things around, adding and taking away sessions as necessary - no team needs to do endurance or match practice training a day before a game, while recovery the day after a game can sometimes be replaced with another nonsense. The coaches are quite poor at United and there also aren't enough of them to keep a light/average work load so made adjustments on that. By the final 3rd of the season the team was a well oiled machine with super good team cohesion and happiness. Did away with playing any other mentality but attacking.

The above was the go-to tactic with little changes to it [attacking and defensive width, lines of engagement, counter-pressing etc] depending on who I'm playing.

Martial and Greenwood had a fantastic seasons, with the latter predominantly rotating with Martial and Kluivert scoring many important goals. Rashford had a an extremely hot and cold season though, no consistency at all and I'm not sure if I should mess with his instructions more or not but I reluctant to mess with it because the balance with everyone else. Mctominay had a better average rating but he goes mental with the fouls and the passing from deep leaves a lot to be desired so prefer Matic in the Anchor Man role. The VdB and Fred did excellent when they needed to step in for Pogba and Bruno so the midfield is sorted in those two spots.

During one of those international breaks I was looking around in the market for a DM to replace Matic in the upcoming season, so I declared interest in Florentino Luis just to kinda see what happens. Well, it seemed to get Big Ed like really excited because he jumped on and began to negotiate the shit out of it! All wrapped up and ready for the next season for a couple million over what was left of the transfer budget. A shame he's not about it in real life :(

In the end I secured top 4 with three games to spare, beat Man City in the FA cup final and Atalanta in the Europa League final on penalties.

And we again!
