If that house helps you get more money next year then what? If you don't move house you could lose out on revenue, how about that?

Spend £100m on Sancho and have a talent for 10 years or not spend it and have the same squad as last season.

If you can get your fancy house which is 90% of what you want for the price, you have the money, you will buy it because you know next year when you go to buy it there may be others wanting to buy it. You have now messed with the buyer this year, you think the buyer will be like oh yes you were here last year, I will give you first choice?

So then you not only lose the house, one of your rivals gets it and makes money of it whilst you lick your wounds.
These are all assumptions. The fact is, we know that most of the business get hit by COVID-19. It's normal that clubs are more careful with spending money right now. What makes you think United is any different? that's what I was suggesting, it has nothing to do with me saying that signing Sancho won't be profitable.

And when I say house I'm pretty sure I didn't include rivals. Because that takes it to another level where the decision will be based on emotion as well. At that point, of course you would buy the house.

I still hope for him to sign for United but if he doesn't because of money, I can't blame Ed.

We should just stump up the money they want for the lad. He's got that x-factor and it'll re-pay itself in success on the pitch. It's been a long time since we had a team people feared - with our current front 3 we have one. Add Sancho into the mix and we're as good as any in Europe in a couple of years time. These lads could be like Rooney/Ronaldo/Tevez in terms of impact on our front line (not playing styles, indvidual peaks or whatever else the moaners will want to talk about).

Behind them we have Pogba and Fernandes, two genuine top level creative players. We also have some solid CM options. For the first time in years we've got a team that isn't full of holes. The defence is mostly solid, if not exceptional. We need to grasp this opportunity, not penny pinch. Right now is the time to expect the Glazers to put some of their own money into the club, instead of being "gracious enough" to let the club spend it's own money.

I wonder what young talents think if Dortmund refuse to let Sancho go. I'd be very hesitant to sign for them without a buyout clause if I was a talent like Dembele, Sancho, Bellingham, Reyna, Haaland etc.
Disagree, players will see Dortmund for exactly what they are - a really well run club! Players sign for Dortmund due to a number of factors - exciting football, big crowds, good stadium, there isn't massive expectations/pressures surrounding the club media-wise, they compete for trophies and they have a proven track record of developing players; there will be very, very few that sign thinking that they are a 'stepping stone' to a massive club.

I assume he’s getting his information from somewhere and not just pulling it out of his ass. But whatever he’s being fed doesn’t seem to have had any truth to it so far.

Desperate is to still believe anything that Fjortoft says after he's "reported" every possible outcome of this saga.
Believing or not believing is another matter, I have always taken the tweets on this page as something amusing than something to believe in. But ever since Dortmund come out with a statement, they do look desperate for the deal to happen. If Sancho is staying 100%, then no need to say anything.

You may ask why do I bother commenting on Jan Farts' tweet then? because I like talking shite about him. That's why and nothing can stop me.

The logic says Dortmund won't sell him. We need to take emotion out of this and look at the facts.

  • He's signed a huge contract until 2023
  • They are under zero pressure to sell
  • It benefits to keep him because his value will only increase
  • Transfers will likely be at a more pre covid level in a years time hence they can get their valuation for him
There's literally no negative for them to keep him, it's all benefits. They get an amazing player for another year, they get more money next year. The only way we would get him is by paying 110 million. Which apparently Ed isn;t willing to do. Sancho isn't going to put in a transfer request either. Unless we cough up the money they want then we just have to accept we aren't going to sign him.
That's just a complete fantasy in my opinion. There's nothing to suggest right now things are going back to the way they were. Lots of countries are re-spiking and there is no indication that fans will be back in stadiums this year. Not to mention, even if they were, there would be huge added costs to grounds to make it safe/compliant. The only way for his value is down, because clubs will continue to lose revenues.

Ofcourse, I think most manutd fans understand the covid effect. Let me put it to you this way, will the owners take a smaller dividend? will Woodward take a cut in his bonuses or wages? I would assume not.

So the fans have to bear another season where this team wont do well.

Will ticket prices be cut to reflect Covid?

If we do not spend money, ticket prices remain and the board take the same dividends out because we will have more commercial revenue than last season due to CL, why should the fans care about Covid impact on Manutd?

I dont think there is a question about if Ed is going to spend 120 m. euros, he will.

That price has been know for such a long time and if they didnt agree on the price they wouldnt have been so far into negotiations already.

What they might not agree on yet is how is going to be paid, e.g. how far in the future the installments are going to be.

Let me put it this way: if Zorc or Watzke were asked the question about Sancho's future at a press conference or interview and they replied "no comment", what would you expect the reaction on here and in the media to be?

That means getting rid of Mata, Smalling, Dalot, Pereira, and Rojo. How much is that? 35m? Almost impossible unless we sell Henderson which is something I don't want United to do of course, I'm not counting wages in this.
Yes the wages are the big thing, get rid of 5 players get one in, what’s the swing on the wages? Mata is very nice for example but he’s stealing a living at the wages he’s on.

Makes that Woodward statement, about being able to do things that other clubs can only dream of, look even more ridiculous. What a plonker that guy is.
It looks like he really wanted that way if you look at the news came out... Since he started as a director we tried to sign Ronaldo/Bale/Neymar/Kroos/Haaland/Dybala/ etc

The way I see it is Dortmund seem to be putting the pressure on Sancho to say he's staying, when in reality they know he wants out but won't push for it.

By having everyone say they're happy he's staying, if/when Sancho leaves, Dortmund can say it wasnt us who wanted him to leave, its him that wanted to go. Bypasses the issue they have of being seen as a feeder club or selling club as they can paint Sancho as the one who was desperate to go.

The fact that hes explicitly avoiding saying he wants to stay is low key pushing for a move, but not full on agitating for it. He could come out at any time and say "I'm staying for another year, im happy here" but as of yet, hes made no attempt to do so.

That's Ronaldo's statement right there. "Only god knows". Well then the muppets will be less stressful, but in all seriousness I don't think it makes any difference for most. If the window hasn't ended yet, anything still could happen.

About the media? they will make a big headlines, it's what they do. Negative or positive news.

Dortmund do tons of interviews, because that's what they do every year in Bad Ragaz -> English press keeps reporting that negotiations are still going on, United haven't given up, etc. -> German journalists ask about Sancho and these reports -> Dortmund officals answer that he's staying.

People here see one answer from an interview about a variety of topics taken out of context and posted on Twitter and just assume that they called up a journalist just to make that statement and then continue to spin their 1d chess theories from there.

I find it odd that Ed wouldn’t have shut this down by now if he was unwilling to actually pay the full asking price at some point.

That’s what is keeping me invested in this one until we get a brief from the UK press that we’ve pulled out.

I really hope we commit fully to this one. No one player will improve us as much as this lad in this position, it’s all about top level quality now, that should be our approach.

I’d rather spend nothing on ‘squad fillers’ and pay top dollar for the very best players available. Plus this kid wants to join us, which is why I think we are still pursuing it.

He ticks so many boxes that it makes the outlay as close to being a ‘safe bet’ as it possibly could be. C’mon Ed... pull the trigger.

We've not done it publicly is because he knows there will be fallout from it and he doesn't want negative PR, especially going into the next two games to hopefully win the EL. Give it a couple of days after we get knocked out/win the competition and we'll hear the PR spin from Woodward about why we didn't do the deal.

Are you certain that the stadium will be in full capacity again in 2021?

I care but not in the way that I think it'd be bad for the club. I have no idea what the actual data is like but I'm just trying to put some common sense that, if the deal fails because we don't want to spend more money, I'll be fine with it. Better spend it on other players then. For this window.

I still hope for him to sign for United but if he doesn't because of money, I can't blame Ed nor the club.

You said that but no one could proof that the clubs don't call journalists as well. If you want to bring that up, we have not gotten a scooby doo about anything but we are allowed to discuss it. Given it's not Reddit ITKs that we're discussing here because the actual persons most likely don't even exist.

No, I am not certain. Even if its not full capacity, why is Covid only effecting the clubs not the fans who are effected by it more ? We seem to forget that we are a club that makes money, not dependent on owners pumping money in, so for me I would rather see the dividends payment cut and that invested into the squad.

I appreciate we might not sign sancho because of money. £108m is too much yes, but then what is our budget? £60/70m? If that is the case, we know there is one option that will be good for us.

Donny Van de Beek for £40m. why not start there ? Or are we going to go into another negotiation war with Villa? when we know it's going to be hard work again.

I am quite surprised that alot of experts thought Manutd can take advantage of Covid due to the size of the club and their financial power.

Quite a few mention that from what I’ve read in here. You would expect us to dampen that narrative if we genuinely don’t want to continue trying?

Can’t see it being overly centred around our progress in the Europa league tbh, not least as we’ve secured the most important part (top 4) anyway.

I dunno, I still think there’s legs in this.

There won’t be any deal before the Europa League final. Would be very odd to sign him now when the team is in germany playing for a trophy. Better for Sancho doing pre season with BD.

But I can definitely see some movement after 21st of August.

Exactly. The muppet train is still going strong in me but if Sancho doesn't come, there are always Grealish, vdB, Rice, they could improve the squad considerably as well.

Makes zero sense to immediately brief that the club have not given up on a player on the day the seller club piles pressure on you just so that you can privately waste time during negotiations and later on brief the exact opposite just because games are still going on.There would be radio silence like was the case before BVB released that public statements or before we briefed we walked from Dybala`s deal. If the deal does not happen I reckon it will be after we`ve made a bid that got rejected or Sancho himself publicly says he wants to stay.

But this is the problem, we have made this assumptions in an hour. Surely, Manutd must have run models to know based on worst case if they can afford Sancho.

If they can't just move on.

We have to make assumptions on things. Me and you wont know the answer. The club hires financial experts to draw models on the effects of Covid.

So if the models have come back and said, due to Covid we cannot afford him, then move on. which is what is the worry for me, if you have so many doubts, then pursue other avenues of getting players.
It's likely we will wait until as late in the window as possible to make a decision on whether we can afford him or not when more is known about the situation. At worst we see more of Greenwood next season than we otherwise would. There is always January as well.

There's also a potential £10m+ on the line for winning the Europa league. That won't be going unnoticed in our thinking.

That's just my feeling on it, I just think that's how Woodward operates. Look at the briefs he gives out about looking for a DoF when shit hits the fan. Then when the going is good, nothing. He's all about public appearance.

And I do feel like this has slowed down quite a bit the last couple of days. The UK press is basically rehashing the same stuff about Dortmund would sell if we give what they want, etc etc.

This is why I think I can see the same pattern unfolding here. I wanted Sancho badly here, I thought we'd make it happen without fuss as it suited all parties.

But I'm connecting a few dots here that don't make sense on the face of it, until you consider things that may be true here. For example, we heard a few stories last summer that there are clubs in Europe that have taken a disliking to Woodward and the way he conducts business. According to the journalists at the time, they said they would never deal with him again. Then here we have Dortmund using intermediaries. This has people wondering why, but perhaps they are a club that don't want to deal with Woodward. It would explain the situation and their reluctance to even speak to us when it was obvious that they would sell him for the right price.

They need to ask a journalist to set them up with a Sancho question as much as a striker would need to ask a journalist to talk about that goal he scored in a post match interview. Sancho's future has been by far the biggest story of the summer for Dortmund, so questions about him are inevitable. It's certainly a thousand times more likely than Dortmund officials trashing their reputation on purpose to play reverse psychology games with United via the media.

Most of it is posturing. Dortmund are now feeding journalists on how they won't sell because they think they could evoke a bidding war next season. That seems unlikely to happen. I mean, right now journos are quoting that Barca and Madrid might be in for Sancho next season. Very certain that Barca won't be able to go for big transfers next season at the very least seeing their situation right now. Madrid might be able to do so but mostly if they are able to move on the likes of isco, bale and some of their high value flops from the last window (unlikely they are able to sell hazard). Besides, I think Madrid would probably make a central striker their priority (Mbappe?) or a midfielder. I do think that a Liverpool could enter the picture though and that's about it really. Woodward is right not to give into all of this posturing from Dortmund.

I don't really follow what you mean there. The way I'm looking at it, we said we're still hopeful when they closed the door. Since then there have been no real updates at all, apart from rehashing this idea that we've not given up. I think we'll leave it that way until there's a suitable time to say that the deal won't be happening. We'll be hoping we've either a) won the EL and brought some positivity, or b) lined up an alternative to keep the buzz going. Probably Dembele or Bale.

WHY do Dortmund care so much about this that they have to pay Jan Farts like this? so desperate. So stupid really. I would be blaming Ed just like most people are doing, if this is a normal window but it's not. The circumstance make it easy to see why we're not so reckless about spending money for ONE player.

Now let me ask you something, would you buy an expensive, fancy house right now? you wouldn't, if it will take up most of your money.
My problem with this line of thinking is that we have built ourselves a bit of momentum similar to what Mourinho did in his first two seasons. We are genuinely on the up but our players are clearly tired and I'm just not sure they will be able to keep this up next season without something happening to the club to bring that extra boost of excitement. Having someone like sancho come in is a real statement and will show clear direction and put a bit of fear in us. It is very possible we go into the season without improving our first 11 and end up dead on our feet and unable to progress past what we have done this season.

This is my point though. When it was clear a deal for Dybala/Griezmann wasn`t happening at all we didn`t wait for a "suitable time" we briefed immediately not intentionally wasting time behind the scenes otherwise there would be radio silence as was the case before BVB`s public statement or before we walked from Dybala`s deal and the manager/players at this point do not give a toss about transfers so I doubt any "brief" affects preparations. The deal may or may not happen but if it`s briefed it won`t it won`t be because it was pre decided that we wouldn`t be pursuing the deal and then make the decision to go public about it at a later date even from a PR perspective that seems far fetched. It`ll likely be instigated by a public statement from Sancho or the highest bid we can offer being rejected

If we buy either of them we are making the same mistakes we have been trying to rectify the past 5 odd years no chance.

Whats also interesting is that United's mouthpieces talk about how we are trying to get a lower fee but that we might be forced to pay the full price in the end because of different reasons.

Sorta looks like he is setting up the PR for when/if they are going to pay it.

Would like over one way or the other the week after the Europa finals, which means the club needs to make a decision and stick to it. I really hope we're not planning to wait this out until October.
