That was really shocking tonight. Started off rooting for City as I cannot stand the other three teams left but that quickly changed hearing the awful commentators. What axe did they have to grind with Cornet? They misinterpreted almost every of his replays to fit their narrative.

Can't stand Fletcher and McManaman anyway. The former tries to hard to be the voice of European nights for my liking and all McManaman seems to do all game is ask rhetorical questions in his annoying high-pitched voice.

And the less said about the pronunciation of foreign players (a general problem), the better.

What you didn't see was the gun to Walton's head in the studio.
He did take a massive gap before suddenly deciding that slight accidental touch for the trip was a foul.

Originally all he said was no prospect of an offside.

These two are a lot better (especially Carragher).

The spelling for Pete's sake..Lineker!!
Meh, forget his spelling.

I don’t mind him usually. But even Hart was downplaying it and saying they came together, whilst he was trying to search for something.

Since when do commentators become impartial? Their job is to talk about the game and give insight, not wish them on like a bunch of schoolgirls. The bias from them tonight was a bit of a joke. I get mcmanaman being an ex player but “fletch” sounded like a season ticket holder.

the funny thing was every foul on Lyon they kept saying “nothing in that” when there was clear contact

the disappointment in their voices when sterling missed and then begging for an offside for the goal was hilarious.

You’re spot on man. Shocking. I don’t even get mcmanaman, city have been pools biggest rivals this year. And rio saying they were amazing etc.

Saint pep really can do no wrong apparently.

did they even criticise the goalkeeper for the 3rd goal at all? Shocking keeping and if that was de Gea we would hear about it for a week.

Loved hearing their whining when Lyon were scoring. It's never City's fault, they are an amazing faultless team with the greatest manager ever, who just always happen to have a bad day in Europe or are fecked by VAR.

When they were convinced that the Lyon player was offside and brought on Peter Walton to confirm that and he simply said 'No'

Mcmanamam is such a horrible commentator. Provides no expert opinion and just makes weird noises like he's a 10 year old who has no clue about football but just repeats what he sees.

Fletcher thinks he's still commentating for radio, never stops for breath. We can see what's happening.
McManaman is so bad that Fletcher has to act the analyzer by telling us what's happening regarding tactics and McManaman agrees with him.

I said it before the game tonight to my City supporting colleague (who’s a sound lad in fairness), it would be a ‘hard game with the UEFA refs’. That was an absolute shambles tonight, given all the hype and money spent and diluted competition and pep and dodging ffp cheating etc etc etc.

I imagine they enthusiastic rimming is for PR reasons.

City seems like a notoriously petty club so shitting on them would probably result in players being pulled from post-match interviews and not partaking in BT's embarrassing adverts where players dance and point at the camera like cool dudes.

You'd think they both bet their houses on City tonight with the way they were carrying on. I loved how Fletcher couldn't get a Lyon players name right all night, literally called Cornet "Toko-Ekambi" when looking at a replay that was even zoomed in on his shirt clearly saying "Cornet" on it. Then when Ekambi got subbed off, 5 minutes later a tackle is made and he goes "Brilliant tackle from Toko-Ekambi there", yes brilliant tackle by the player watching from the sidelines. Pratt.

Appalling commentary. City were well beaten and they should be praising Lyon instead of trying to find fault.

Are City just like Lazio when they were managed by Sven.

Small club, spent a shit load of money, then fade back into obscurity.

Nah. Lazio were last relegated in the 80s and have almost always been top half in Serie A since. Take out the Sven title and they're probably about the same level as Spurs. Much bigger club than City.

They suddenly got a feck ton of money under Sven, and spent money mike it was going out of fashion around that time.

I don't normally take much heed of the criticisms of BT Sport's coverage - it's not great but it generally doesn't detract from the match itself.

Today however, was awful. All semblance of impartiality went out the window. Fletcher having a full on orgasm over the equaliser, the weird insistence of Cornet being a diver, when Fernandinho had actually stepped on the back of his Achilles (which is generally very fecking painful!). Talking about Lyon crowding the ref but ignoring Garcia and the City players asking the ref to card Marcelo in the second half. The casual ignorance/borderline racism of referring to the wrong black player. Lineker saying that the tangle of legs would have been a penalty if it were in the box under VAR, and that we'd seen them given this season (when and where?!). And then hardly giving any credit to Lyon for their performance, where even with the period of City dominance in the second half, they still ended it having much more of the balance of opportunities created.

I'm sure there's more, but these were what I remembered.

Oh there was more, much more. It was disgusting really, but I couldn’t stop laughing after sterling missed that and Lyon got the third. Well beaten by an average French team.
Why don’t the media go harder on city’s ffp cheating too?

Their coverage was outright appalling tonight. I understand there is always going to be a bit of bias towards the British team, but they were unacceptable tonight. Demanding a perfectly good goal be chalked off, wrongly labelling Cornet a diver when Fernandinho stepped on his heel, literally celebrating City's goal like fans.

In all my years watching football, tonight was the most biased I've ever seen a commentary/pundit team, and that includes England World Cup and Euro games.

When Joe Hart is talking the most sense you know you've had a shocker. Lineker, Rio, Fletcher and McManaman should hang their heads in shame for their coverage tonight.

It's just low-key racism.

Twat that Darren Fletcher. God I miss Clive Tyldsley. CL isn't the same without him.

Macca is just an awful commentator both BT and sky have made this mistake of employing ex players as commentators and it’s actually detrimental to the watching experience. Have them as pundits at least that way they’re not interfering and you can just skip over it. Amazon primes comms were excellent and if they get more games I hope they don’t resort to this.

Also Jake Humphries is a bellend

“they won’t be able to do they against City” they said while reviewing the Bayern/Barca game.

24 glorious hours later...

In all seriousness though I’m disappointed in Rio. He’s turned out to be quite the shill, towing the line.
