It shows the respect we have in holland, no chance they be doing all this if he was going to City or PSG

Guys, let’s clear this up quickly.. Beek is pronounced Bake!!!!
I die a little inside every time Kevin De Bruyne's name gets butchered. I'm 90% sure Donny will be called "van beak" "de beak" "van de beak" or some other variant.

A smarter, less dynamic version of Herrera.
Will control our tempo.
Rubbish. DvdB is an attacking midfielder, 6ft something with strong physical attributes. He’ll give you 60 games a season injury free no problem. He will not be playing in the same position as Herrera. Most likely scenario is that it will be either 2 of Pogba, Fernandes and DvdB playing simultaneously, giving Ole the option to rest his stars.
DvdB is not a flashy player, not as gifted as Fernandes, but good basic technique and an intelligent football brain. His mentality is 2nd to none, arguably the most popular player in Holland amongst the general public.

Welcome Danny! Great signing.

And after that Ajax tweet they've just got a new fan here, my second club in Europe from now on. Big respect!

COVID-19 impacted Real Madrid's finances, and they could no longer afford to pay for him. After that, I think their plans changed and they weren't necessarily pursuing van de Beek as strongly as they did before.
Thanks, and lucky us!

He will rotate with Pogba and Bruno playing with them both I think. All have varying quality with no overall drop with consistancy of the play, whoever plays. The only thing I can see coming out of leftfield is if Pogba is being sold, to bring in Sancho.

Knowing the Dutch, I would've assumed it's pronounced close to "Van de Baek" with a soft "e".

The days of a starting 11 are long gone. He’ll get plenty game time in the 8/10 role.

I guarantee there will be games this coming season where all of VDB, Pogba and Bruno play from the start. You can move your playmaker deeper and press from more advanced positions and VDB has a terrific engine and is not afraid of a tackle. I know people doubt Pogba's defensive attributes, but what impressed me about him when he came back last season was his discipline sitting deep when needed. I don't think this will be our default line up but in games where opposition park the bus, I think Pogba will end up as the 6, and VDB and Bruno will play in front of him. If you are retaining possession and probing for openings, it's really not a problem.

In fact just to go full muppet, full octane football for a second......

Generally though I agree with the assertion that this signing gives us much needed depth and rotational opportunities. I think we may see him cover on the right hand side, or see Bruno play there at times, especially if Sancho doesn't sign. Assuming we sign a RW like Sancho and a CB, having the likes of Lindelof, Fred, McTominay, Van de Beek and Greenwood coming off the bench and pushing for a first team place, is where an elite club like Manchester United should be. At times last season OGS received criticism for not making changes sooner, but you looked at his bench options in Lingard, Pereira, James, and Mata in attacking positions and you felt understanding for why he was reluctant to make the change. None of those players seem likely to change the course of the match and represent a significant drop in quality. We are moving in the right direction in terms of our recruitment, and taking a holistic view of squad building. This is something SAF did better than anyone, and it seems Ole has taken note.

Unlike many others, I have remained very calm about our recruitment this summer. We haven't shown an antipathy to spending money, the problem is that we've shown a lack of competence in how that money is spent. The recent signings under our new management regime have been nothing short of excellent. Even James, who endured a difficult second half the season, is still young and has plenty of upside and represented a very small financial gamble. Some of the articles regarding the due diligence we did with this signing, and how they are representative of our new approach, are extremely encouraging. Cynically speaking, this is also a product of United's newly amped up PR department, including Neil Ashton, but the results have certainly supportive the briefed line. So no complaints.

I'll also echo the sentiments by others regarding the very classy nature of Ajax Football club. A really top tier institution.

It won't be a popular opinion, but I don't think we will ever get near to winning the premiership again with Rashford and Martial as our main attacking options. Neither are clinical enough for that to happen.

Oh this again.

Martial is one of the most clinical strikers in the league in terms of conversion rates.

I'm pretty sure Rashford has improved in that regard too.

Rashford I semi-agree with, he hasn't been nearly the same since his return from his injury. Martial on the other hand, has been brilliant as of late, especially with the link-up play with Bruno. If Rashford can regain his old form, these two can be good enough for us.

I speak Dutch fluently and have been living in Amsterdam since I was a nipper. It’s pronounced Bake. Beek = a brook. Donny of the Brook. Brook sounds like trousers in Dutch.

Ed must have been either on holiday or in quarantine for this to have been concluded in quick time, and without fuss.

Anyone know if they did anything similar when De Ligt and De Jong left them last summer? Seems a bit OTT to me
Ajax really values players from their own academy, he played there for 12 years. He loves that club and the supporters love him. Someone like Van de Beek is intertwined with the club's culture, on many levels. His mentor and agent is Mr Ajax, Sjaak Swart. Even his girlfriend, Ajax legend Dennis Bergkamp's daughter. It's very likely Donny will return to Ajax in some capacity at some point, and he'd be welcomed with both arms. If there's an Ajax family, he's part of it.

And Ajax's media team tends to go all out. This is what they did for their new signing Antony:
That's David Neres rapping.

And with Ziyech as a goodbye they did a 40 minute video with him, recapping his time with Ajax:

So does ‘Van Der’ translate to ‘of the’?
