I love going back to this film after not having seen it for a few of years. It always flies by! My main bitch had a Skype call with Leandro Firmio (Li’l Dice) a couple of years ago! He’s much chubbier and less gangster nowadays, apparently.

I’ve just watched Office Space and I thought it was absolutely crap. Which is odd as apparently most people think it’s quite good.

What the feck?! Office Space is the tits.
Perhaps because I'm watching it 20 years on and the office I work in is nothing like that one, but I genuinely don't see it. I honestly don't understand what makes it a good film. It's not like I'm often critical - I've barely watched any films and generally enjoy every one I do watch. It just didn't click with me for whatever reason.

Dr Moreau. It's Brando gone full Kurtz.
There is a great accompanying documentary in the same vein as Hearts of Darkness.

A young father is charged with murder and must prove his innocence by recalling a very twisted and dark night of events.
Its a Cage film , I was not expecting much, but it was not dreadful, it was OK, twist at the end, it will win no awards, but it kept me watching.

The Rental

Two couples on an oceanside getaway grow suspicious that the host of their seemingly perfect rental house may be spying on them. Before long, what should have been a celebratory weekend trip turns into something far more sinister, as well-kept secrets are exposed and the four old friends come to see each other in a whole new light.
It was a bit slow, but it was OK , decent build up, acting was OK, build up to the ending was pretty good, but the ending let it down badly, with a decent ending it was a 7 maybe 8.

The Vanished ( Hour of Lead)

Story of a husband and wife that will stop at nothing to find her missing daughter, who disappeared on a family camping trip. When the police don't catch any leads, the duo take over.
I though this was very good , well acted, good story line, with a twist at the end that totally got me.
Well worth watching

Didn't know there was one. A new delight. Was it good because Reedux was a downgrade imo.
I know there's very varying views on the versions. I discovered Apocalypse Now with the Redux version so I actually like it but also understand the criticism of it. This last version, or Final Cut, I think pretty much solves any issues Redux had (which was indeed too long, this one is 20mns shorter) and gets rid of a couple of problematic scenes by keeping everything that makes the film special. It also looks gorgeous - unless I'm mistaken, it's a 4k restored version. I think Coppola considers it as the actual definitive version of his masterpiece. Anyone who has an interest for this film should definitely check it out in any case. Seeing it again on the big screen this summer was pretty special.

I'll watch and let you know what I think. I though the orginal was close to perfect so we will see. :)

I saw AN for the first time when Redux was first released and loved it. Then I read the reviews and the consensus from the critics (who had more than likely already seen the original release) seemed to be that it was baggy, overlong, with pacing issues, and unnecessary scenes. A few years later with that in mind I watched the theatrical cut and really disliked it. It felt like the film had been hollowed out. I even missed the playmates scene and was frustrated by some of the minor edits. So I reckon both views are sort of right. Depending on how you first saw the film and the expectations you have going in, it may well reflect your preference for one over the other. The plantation is a digression (no doubt an unnecessary one for some) but it's kind of a perfect reflective calming before the storm for the way I view the film. Redux is the version that feeds me, I doubt I would bother with the final cut.

A similar thing happened with Amadeus. I only saw the extended cut but I can't think of a scene that I would lose. Loved the whole thing.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels has an atrocious director's cut though. Whoever was in the editing room and was responsible for cutting around the worst of the dialogue and acting, to sculpt a satisfying novelty gangster flick deserves so much credit.

The only scene I feel is unnecessary and too "on the nose" is the Playmates one which actually makes me uncomfortable (which I know is intended, but it's not in a good "ah it's achieved what it's set out to do" kind of way). The FC takes that scene out notably, which might explain why I enjoyed it.

But as you, I fell in love with the Redux version when I saw it for the 1st time all those years ago, and I don't enjoy the theatrical cut. It doesn't capture the madness enough I feel.

I also feel the French plantation film is a gorgeous scene despite some hammy dialogue.

Oh God this is because of Trump isn't it ? The liberal meltdown after his win has resulted in even the dullest of grey sludge is now seen as fight against American fascism.
the timeline definitely matches. there's also this attitude towards franchise movies (which seem to be guaranteed a 50%, and often crack 80 and 90% on RT): https://birthmoviesdeath.com/2016/04/13/captain-america-civil-war-review-a-total-triumph

Captain America: Civil War isn’t just a great Marvel movie, it’s a great movie. And that greatness - which is dependant in part on the groundwork laid by 12 previous movies - is the final proof of the concept that Marvel Studios first tried out in Iron Man back in 2008. It’s the film that proves the shared universe concept isn’t just cool, and isn’t just a great marketing idea but that - when used right - it creates a kind of gripping, resonant longform storytelling that no one else has ever accomplished on this scale. Civil War isn’t great despite being the third Captain America and thirteenth overall Marvel movie - it’s great because of those things.

Yeah the actual content of the films in these franchises seem to quite low down the list of priorities. It see if you add in a couple of "I KNOW WHAT THAT IS!" moments in between 2 hours of grey sludge you're guaranteed to get a positive reaction.

Doesn't help the average movie "critic" looks like this in 2020

Leon the professional: 5/10
Imagine my shock that this director was accused of sexual harrasment, the only clue he left was a 2 hr advertisement for pedophilia, Lolita without narrative ambiguity. Nice ending action scene though.

Directors cut kind of butchered that film. In the original cut it felt more parental or at least it could be interpreted that way. Directors cut made it a lot less ambiguous

Watched Project Power this evening. Pretty forgettable. Kinda entertaining while it lasts though, although I thought the entire finale (boat) was too messy and uncoordinated. I guess the idea is that leaving the locale entirely vague allows the story to get away with anything, but I disagreed. The rest of the film was clearer, but ultimately it's popcorn nonsense and they don't really do anything with all the snippets of social criticism that they bring up and hint at. Again, not bad while it lasts for a Saturday night, but definitely not something to look back at afterwards. (As I am doing now; my rating of the film is dropping with every letter I type. :houllier: )

This film is responsible for Terence Stamp involvement in the Star Wars

Abominable
A group of teens have to get a Yeti back to mount Everest before he is captured by an evil corporation. Decent family flick, hoped it would have a little more heart 6/10

Addams Family (2019)

Bland version of the classic. Was bored out of my mind... So was my daughter. Such a shame as the voice cast were brilliant 2/10

@dumbo you're probably onto it already but please watch that new Kaufman and give us your take.
I've been saving it for tomorrow night when I have no commitments, really excited. Have you seen it? The border collie from the trailer resonates already.

I don't have Netflix so I'm trusting in a rip.

ya it was a bit weird at first but then it became almost the central theme of the movie, her trying to seduce him. plus the running joke that she was 12 or 18.

This film is responsible for Terence Stamp involvement in the Star Wars

I See You
Strange occurrences plague a small town detective and his family as he investigates the disappearance of a young boy. The first half is just generic, trope-filled trash. The mid-point produces a massive 180, sending a film into a whole new direction. I have seen this work in films like:
One Cut Of The Dead
But on this occasion, it doesnt work at all. In fact, it kills the little suspense that had been built to this point. The final act was ok, with a twist I didn't see coming but overall, a mess of a film 4/10

Helen Hunt's face was the scariest part of that movie.

Hell yes. Me and the wife kept mentioning it. What the feck was up with that? Something about her mouth/lips just seemed off. Made it so unbelievable that she had someone to have affair with... feck that sounds so horrible

She's only 57 as well which is mad. She should be chasing a refund from Dr. Nick or whoever did her surgery.

Do you speak english, sir.

I've yet to see it myself but I've noticed a lot of extreme responses, mostly very laudatory or metaphorically throwing rotten vegetables at the stage.

Fruitvale Station.
Follows the last day of Oscar Grant, who was shot and killed by pigs at Fruitvale Station. Great movie. Harrowing conclusion. Needed to watch some family guy right after to get my mind off it 8/10
