Tried to watch as many YouTube videos as I could and this really looks like united finally waking up and buying a top player that isn’t world class but takes us another step back towards the top. Looks like a great buy.

Hahaha good chant!

Lads are there any youth/young players at Ajax who could end up worth 40 million but we could probably get for 20 now? They seem to be an easy club for us to do business with but I don’t know much about their team apart from what I see in the CL

LB, RW (if we don’t get sancho stick with greenwood and get a backup) LW, CB, DLP, ST all need rotation players of a high standard. Surely Ajax have a few more very good players who would be up for the move and Donny already here to help them settle in?

I’m not sure they’d go for that. They wouldn’t have sold VDB if they didn’t feel they had a replacement coming through. It’s not within their best interests to sell on their youth players before they’ve even had the chance to represent Ajax. They’re a club with ambitions after all, they just know they can’t keep them past a certain point

obviously it’s better for the player and Ajax to develop fully there but I’m kind of talking about overpaying early for the right player.

Going for a 5-2 score every game then! Especially as VDB mentioned in the interview that Ole wants him to get into the box as much as possible.

In all seriousness if that's our plan, we need upgradation in CB area with players who can deal with 2 vs 2 or even 3 vs 2 situation on their own. Plus maybe we need more help sweeping from the GK. Is Henderson any better than DDG in this regard?

No point is there? Ajax develop their players anyway, it’s probably one of the best places in Europe for a young Dutch lad to get first team football and play CL as well. We’d only stick an 16-18 in the reserves and maybe loan them out. I’m sure if some prodigy came along we’d go hard and give them big money now with a two season loan back to the club or something but there’s not within anyone’s best interests for us to pay big and early on someone who might not make it or Ajax to sell on the cheap when the player could be worth over £50m in 3 seasons.

My wit's end

It's a party chant
We've had variations of that chant for years. I think it might have even been invented at United.

First used for Nicky Butt, then later for Ashley Young (I've got a feeling it was sung about Possebon a couple of times, too).

Anyway, I'll happily take it back.

I suggest you rewatch some of his matches. You didn’t describe him all too well there.
I haven't even seen the guy play much, but I said the same thing about Bruno without having seen a great deal of him either and look what happen. So I'll continue to speak my doubts without any weight behind it since it seems to serve the club well.

Not in anyone’s interest to buy these players as you say.

Also let’s not get carried away about a strategic relationship when we’ve bought one player. We should just be pleased that it’s been smooth and quick.

We did that for Ashley Young, to be fair, but I think the fans will come up with something unique for Donny for sure instead of recycling something.

We could do "oooh Donny Donny Donny" to the tune of Prefab Sprout's classic Goodbye Lucille no 1 (Jonny Jonny)

Alternatively "Donny, Van de Beek" to the tune of Daddy Cool

Am I the only one that's finding this whole "we'll take good care of him", "please take good care of our sweet boy" sentiment a little cringe? He's a 23 year old professional footballer, not a 2 month old Labrador.
Agreed, I have no time for any kindness or well wishing in life. This is fecking football gdi!

I like how so many of his goals are either first time shots or just one quick touch.
Yep. He has pretty good first touch. He's not like Herrera at all, I might say.
Also none of his goal is a worldie or exquisite (except a few, maybe). Mostly just good old fashioned accurate and hit it hard goals.

Now that he's signed up, I'll speculate on something I think could work under perfect circumstances which we arent able to meet yet. But perhaps with 1 more huge transfer we would.

And thats the idea of Pogba playing as the deepest player in midfield, playing the quarterback and deep lying playmaker role with Bruno and DVB pressing aggressively and having lots of pressure on the ball. I think in our current state it would only work against weaker teams and might not even work then because of a lack of support for the defense.

But. If we sign a top top CB. For example someone with huge potential and already playing at a high level like Upamacano to help out Maguire and we continue to play our solid fullbacks who can help the defense a lot, I think that could work as plan A in the majority of our games. Perhaps even if we played Smalling next to Maguire we might be able to get by with our defense doing all the actual defending and Pogba just being around positionally and with his physicality and not doing a particularly good job as DM. That would allow 5 of our players to get forward with Pogba setting them off with a creative pass into an advanced position.

I'm Dutch too and foreigners seem to have a big problem with the -ee- sound. My name is Freek too and people usually go for Freak. But they have no problem pronouncing Drake. So I usually go for Drake with an F. Same with Donny. Should sound close to Bake. And not Beak.

As I mentioned before I don't like Ajax, but Vd Beek is just amazing. Big Fan. F the haters. I think its evident, especially after the last messages; he's is gonna be an instant fan-favorite.

You’ve highlighted the formation I can’t wait to see when we‘re going balls to the wall: Paul-Bruno-Donny in midfield.

It echoes my thoughts on CB also but, well...I am not diving into that here.
