Forget goal or assist, he hasn't even completed single pass yet!

When all players are fit i think that Ole will play him in pair with Pogba on mc/dmc position. Except in big games where we will play with Matic instead of VDB.

This one player solves so many issues in our squad depth.

against “park the bus” - Donny, Pogba, Bruno

Pogba/Bruno injured - Donny takes their place

No Sancho and Rashford/Martial injured OR a game where we have less possession - Diamond with Matic, Donny, Pogba, Bruno

In any of those scenarios I don’t think we loose much quality or firepower and it means we don’t have to look further down the pecking order unless we have multiple injuries

if we end up getting Sancho as well I’d say our squad depth is up there amongst the best in the league

He could be just what we need. A straight to the point player like Greenwood.
During the run in last season, there were games where Pogba, Martial etc overplayed- then Greenwood would just keep it simple and shoot. I can see VDB breaking, late, into the box and doing something similar.

Hope so, we haven't had anyone who does that well since Scholes

I read that article. What a absolute idiot. Saying that he doesnt know where he will he play as Utd have Pogba and Bruno. So he expects them two to play every fecking game (Not realising Pogba has been shit for most of the games hes played) and not knowing Utd can change there formation (Diamond) to accodamate all 3, depending on the opposition.

This guy is a joke!

Saw an article yesterday that was titled “hot take: VDB will cost Solskjaer his job”.

Gist of the article was he’s a risk taker and had the lowest pass completion % of the entire Ajax midfield last season (88%) because he plays a lot of forward risky passes. The argument made was that Fernandes and Pogba do the same so the whole midfield will continually give the ball away.

Is in the starting XI vs Italy tonight. Looking forward to seeing what the caftards think of him (at least those are going to watch this game).

Think it's about time het gets his day as a starter. I wouldve benched Gini though. Now we either play 442 or Wijnaldum is playing as RW. Bit weird.

If his positioning in his last two games for the Dutch are anything to go by he is certainly going to be a Bruno alternative. At times this half he has been the furthest forward Dutch player.

I’ve been watching for 40 minutes.

He hasn’t scored a hat trick yet. Definitely not worth 40m. Poor recruitment once again.

His movement has always been good and threatening. I’ve personally always been less convinced about his quality though, have felt a bit of the Davy Klaasen about him, so would be good to see how he develops. I’ve said in his own thread, but I’d have gone for James at £20m instead.

The good thing with VDB though is that he can cover two roles, and his versatility will help us. Just always felt he was the consolation prize out of the De Jong, De Ligt, Ziyech and VDB class though.

As I'm Dutch myself I've seen him play a lot in recent years and this is my biggest critique of him. When he plays as the most advanced of a midfield three he always plays like some false 9 for some reason. I really hope Ole will kick this out of his system a little bit.

I think your probably correct on the last comment that he is the consolation prize out of Ajax’s mini golden generation, but this has been a hard game for anyone in the Dutch team to make a positive impression.

He's clearly not a playmaker and would have been a bad signing as simply our starting attacking midfielder, but as an alternative for multiple positions, he will prove immense. One other thing is, I see him as an attacker more than a midfielder. I can see us eventually using him on the right at times, particularly in more difficult games.

I don’t think the Klaasen comparison Is right and certainly wouldn’t have preferred James. Yuck.

In terms of the last bit I think that shows in the fact the other 3 have signed as starters and VDB has signed as a rotational player.

I've not watched much of him at all but it seems that he has primarily been bought for squad depth. As long as he excels at the basics and improves his strength he has every chance; he seems very motivated.
