Are (some) Manchester United players out of control?

I personally think that with regards to Maguire, you could go as far as to say Ole is a direct accomplice. At the end of the day, its on Ole to mould these players into top characters and after only a year he has managed Maguire so poorly that he's gone and assaulted police officers.

As for Greenwood, that can only be the result of the culture going on at his club. If Greenwood is confident and brash enough to bring a girl to his hotel room on his first ever England call-up, then imagine what Ole is letting the more established players do? I'm uneasy just thinking about it.

Personally, I think Ole has to go. His nice-guy attitude has taken us as far as we can go and he needs to be replaced with someone who can put manners into this squad.

I'm not sure those laughing off Greenwood's actions have really thought this through. Whether or not posters here agree with the rules that are in place due to Covid, they are there for a reason. It won't take much to completely feck up next season (not only for United), and the fact that half our squad and those playing for other teams seem to have scant regard for the potential consequences of their actions shouldn't be just laughed away.

Greenwood is a fecking idiot, 18 or not.
Problem is, all 18 year olds are fecking idiots.

Footballers especially English players are absolute idiots . That's why Rashford stands out so much as a good role model .

Perhaps it is a lack of guidance and education from an early age when they join clubs youth set ups

I'm worried this latest episode will make Sancho reconsider coming back to Manchester after being reminded of how the local lads act irresponsibly. I bet his agents wouldn't want him to be associated with Greenwood.

“Maguire getting a criminal record, Greenwood getting into a sex scandal, these things are to be expected by young professional footballers. Did you see Paul Pogba’s haircut though? He has disrespected the club & the fans. This is unforgivable!”

Rashford stands out as a great role model because he's a great role model, and that's relative to a player of any nationality.

Not to mention previous incidents with Rooney, Giggs, Keane, Sir Alex kicking the boot at Beckham..

All of these people had something to do with Ole....

Or perhaps this is just a really poor take.

Maybe appropriate to bring up our history of players during Sir Alex's time here, like Giggs having an 8 year long affair with his brothers wife. I've long since stopped caring about what footballers do in their personal lives, as long as their good and loyal on the pitch. Obviously a couple of these recent incidents influence them on the pitch (Maguire had the threat of being in jail, Greenwood kicked out of England squad and possible quarantine before training), but all in all, can't be real surprised. They'll learn from it and probably do dumb things in the future, they're footballers after all who literally never had to care about any schooling so I always think it's unwise to expect flawless behavior and super intelligent beings.

Maguire getting arrested, Greenwood getting kicked out of the England squad, AWB going to Dubai.

Is it time tough questions were asked of Ole and his coaching staff?
Might as well save yourself some time and cry for Poch/Nagelsman/whoever you fancy directly. No need for overtures.

I think the thread should be - Have United had a bad pre-season. With all the issues mentioned, plus players testing positive for Covid - Pogba. The delay in transfers meaning less time for players to gel if we even actually sign them, injuries - Rashford. Forget about blame - its not exactly been ideal
pre-season

Out of control??? Dearie me! These knee jerk threads do my head in.
Yea I'm finally starting to understand how Pogba getting a fresh trim and doing a dance on instagram was enough to get 10+ pages of meltdowns on here in the past

Rashford isn't a "simply a good role mode". Rashford is a goddamn saint for having an actual national impact.

The vast majority of good role models are just that, decent human beings, Marcus is an outlier in the most extreme positive side of the coin.

If you're a professional footballer who's paid thousands a week you also have a duty to act professionally. It was also his first international call up so a massive point in his career which you would think he might actually manage to focus on over boning some random girl.

I mean I'm sure I was an idiot at 18, but I'm also sure that I didn't turn up for my first week of work at a new job when it was important to make a good impression, and act like some indisciplined bellend.
I imagine when you were 18, no one gave a flying feck who you were shagging. Greenwood has the expectation of an entire deranged fanbase resting on his shoulders who go into meltdown whenever a player doesn't act precisely how they think a soulless asset should behave.

But then again, this is a WUM thread, so I hope you're not being serious.

Sometimes I feel some people are pathetic enough to live and wait for any sort of 'controversy" so they can camp on these boards and pesters them with their over the top, kneejerk and judgmental reactions.

Nothing more pathetic than a bunch of folks rushing and running around on the internet to slag and have input on other people's lives while acting all judgmental.

The most ridiculous thing about all this is Rashford has forced the government into feeding starving kids, Lindelöf saved on old woman from a thief and still it’s been an awful summer PR wise for us
Much more drama than the whole "All or Nothing" documentary :lol:

It's not a Manchester United issue, it's a British footballers being fecking idiots issue. A big reason why we should buy abroad more often, players from the continent are simply more professional and well behaved on average.

Greenwood, Wan Bissaka and Maguire need to be fined and dropped for a few weeks.

Yes it's only British players that get embroiled in scandals isn't it?

There could also be no other reason for having home-grown players in a squad apart from some weird British spine obsession either, could there?

The Wan-Bissaka one is the most egregious, as there's no 'heat of the moment' excuse.

The Greenwood one by far the most minor.

Been a weird summer. Imagine Sir Fergus dealing with this...he'd be apoplectic with all three. Hairdryer turned up to Max.

We need proper management to teach our players to behave. Right now it is a circus in our squad.
Too much freedom I guess. Could be good, but also results in these things.

I pray that some of our more innocent members never read up on some of the great French and Brazilian teams of a decade - 2 decades ago,it might damage their sensibilities permanently

Kyle Walker and Phil Foden - is it time we asked questions about Pep and his staff?
Callum Hudson Odoi gets arrested, 8 chelsea players in quarantine and two staff breaking lockdown to sign a youth player - is it time we asked questions about Lampard and his staff?
David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Granit Xhaka broke quarantine - is it time we asked questions about Arteta and his staff?
