The crazy stat is that, 49 of his goals have come after he turned 30, and that too in just 47 games!

Oh he'll break that record if it's the last thing he does
I think he will get that record and the record of most goals scored in the history of football on his radar. I think he needs 60 more for that record if I’m not mistaken or thereabouts.

Even just 100 caps is an achievement for any player. 100 international goals is just fecking outrageous.

He will have 200 caps if not a bit more by the time he’s done.

His records for Portugal will last an eternity.

Apparently according to some Portuguese people here, the great man "hinders" the team :houllier:  , whenever they win and he's not playing. I've never seen people so ungrateful in my entire life. To actually be lucky enough to witness the greatest footballer your Country has ever produced, One of the two best players the World has ever seen, but still have the audacity to bash him. Wow just wow.

Congratulations to Cristiano, may many more records fall. And may the haters witness them.

The music goes perfect!

Simply the greatest player our beautiful country has ever seen. He is by and large ahead of anyone that has ever laced up a pair of boots in our country.

Ronaldo currently has 757 official goals. Romario has 767 and Pelé 772 from what i've seen.

While we have to acknowledge that Pelé played in a different time where alot more friendlies were played (then taking his account to 1083 goals) and that Romario claims to have scored more than 1000 goals, I think that Ronaldo may be the first player in history to actually hit 1000 goals in official competitive matches. To do that, he would have to score about 30 goals per season until the 2027/2028 season when he will be 43 years old. That's entirely dependent on if he would want to play that long though.

He has 40 goals in his last 35 international matches. In that time, Portugal have won 2 trophies, the only major honours they've won in their entire history. Special doesn't even come close.

At least, he could get to 900. Is that more realistic ?
If he got to 900 career goals before turning 40 then I'm confident he'd play until he got to 1000 even if he had to play with a cane at 60

He's only at 739 career goals though, not 757. 757 counts goals for the youth teams. Pretty much guaranteed to get to 800 career goals unless he gets a serious injury. 900 will be very tough, 1000 would require superhuman longevity, 0 injuries and retiring to a place where he could statpad to even have the tiniest chance of happening.

I think he will break the all time international goal record, and the all time career goal record (the official one, not including friendies), probably within the next 1-2 years.

If he is willing to play in US or Japan or China it’s possible to achieve that. But will he settle for playing in lower league and not being able to compete with best of world for that long? I doubt so. He will retire in 2-3 years while still among the top. In fact, I think he will plan for retirement after he has broke the remaining 2 biggest record (career goals and international goals), and after playing next WC.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
He’s good but come on...
That was my first reaction as well, but if it's something that he really puts his mind to (it wouldn't surprise me lol) and he's willing to drop down to a lesser league for the last few years he potentially could do it. I feel his ultimate goal is to go down as the GOAT, and getting that record would certainly strengthen his claims.

Ultimately I don't think he'd be willing to take the step down the leagues to make it happen though. He'll want to stay at the top until he feels he's struggling to maintain his standards.

Very good goals from him today, he's very competitive but at the same time I feel he will retire at the top instead of going to MLS, China or whatever. What's more is probable he will retire from his nation after the next World Cup but who knows, it's already impressive what he's doing at his age.

Wow. I never realised how few of his international goals are tap-ins. They are almost all great free kicks, great headers, wonder goals and difficult finishes, with the odd penalty and tap-in thrown in.
It’s natural because Portugal are not particular strong enough to feed him easy goals. He has to do it more by himself there.

Fair play to the guy. He'll get the international record in no time now.

What an achievement. A century of goals and as mentioned before he had to do most of the work himself for them. In terms of just GOAT for the international teams I can only classify Pele over him.

He really is so unlucky that every good Portugal player pretty much retired as soon as he stepped on the scene. He got one tournament with a past their best Portugal in 2004 & really they should have won that final. Since then it has just been him, Nani, Pepe, Carvalho, Moutinho & a little bit of Coentrao. No striker, dead midfield and defence, not even a consistent goalkeeper.

What do they all think of Eusebio? Ronaldo has surely surpassed the great man.

There will be a lot of debate in the future as to whether he is the best ever, there already are and It's impossible to answer in my opinion

What I'm convinced of though is that he is undoubtly the best European footballer in history, his only rivals in greatness have come from SA

Didn’t someone say he only had 1 more year left and then He would go to MLS because he is not good enough anymore ?

Oh ya this lovely lad @Bepi
Does not Portugal have any Nobel prize to worship? A doctor? A mathematician? A writer? Such attention for a narcissistic poser with a football and underpants reflects pretty poorly on... cough, cough... YOU, my friend. Take care. Viva Ronaldo!

Mad to think he was a right winger when he started. Not an out and out goalscorer.

Those goals are unbelievable! So many headers, I will always prefer him stylistically to Messi.

He won a euro though. Since he started his football career, the world cup winners have been Italy, Spain, Germany and France. A stronger Portugal probably wouldn't have been able to beat any of those teams - perhaps Italy at a push? So overall, I think the euro win is about as best he could've hoped for - maybe two euro wins with what happened in 2004.

i don’t think anyone could expect more from him for Portugal, having already scored 101 international goals and won 1 Euro (and 2 trophies) for them. That’s already as good as any GOAT level. Only complain maybe is he never score in WC knockout stages? But it doesn’t really matter, for WC it’s more of case of either winning it or not winning it. He has 4 goals in last WC and a memorable performance vs Spain, which isn’t too bad.

His heading ability gives him an advantage in terms of prolonging his career. You can ping crosses into him he's 40 and he'lll still score those headers.

By the end of his career, if everything goes right, he could end up as:

- All time career top scorer (currently 4th, around 50 more goals to go?)
- All time top scorer for international football (currently 2nd, 8 more goals to go)
- All time top scorer in CL (currently 1st)
- All time top assist in CL (currently 1st)
- All time top scorer in Euro (currently 1st)
- All time most CL winner (currently 1st, if include old European Cup, joint 2nd)
- All time 2nd most Ballon D’or winner (currently 2nd behind Messi, don’t think he can win another one because of his age, and with the team he is playing now)
- All time top 3 most trophies won in his career? (Currently won 30 trophies, same as Pelé 30 trophies, but behind Messi 34 trophies, and Giggs 34 trophies, may get another 2 or 3 trophies with Juventus in next 2 years)
